"But you know what?” Daisy whispers against the little girl’s cheek. Ivy’s wide eyes look up into her mother’s and Daisy feels her heart swell even as guilt fills her gut. “I’ve known Julia since she was your age, even younger.”
Ivy’s eyes widen as she looks back and forth between Julia and her mother like she can’t believe it.
Julia chuckles with a mysterious grin. “I wanted to be just like your mom at your age. She’s pretty cool.”
Ivy nods seriously. “Mommy is mommy.”
“I’ll take that as a high compliment, little bird. But now it’s time to get ready for dance. Can you go with Heather for a bit longer?”
“Okay,” Ivy huffs, hugging her mother before she sets the girl back on the ground.
“Do you want to come see me dance?” Ivy asks so sweetly, Daisy almost cringes.
