Chapter Text

He had only one thought after the incident.

''Why us?''

Izuku had been asking the world why it had to be his family who was attacked. They hadn't done anything wrong. They volunteered around the neighborhood, donated to charity, and paid their bills. Overall they were outstanding citizens.

Yet none of that stopped a random villain from killing his parents for some spare change.

And the heroes, the heroes were nowhere to be found.

So an eight-year-old child was left standing over the bloodied bodies of his mother and father. His arms were hanging lifelessly, his body was slightly hunched over he was looking at his with tears flowing from his eyes as he screamed in pain.

His screams were muffled by the bustling city, but they weren't muted. The people passing by him could still clearly hear him, but they ignored it believing that a hero will come by and deal with it for them.

But a hero didn't come. A police officer did.

He had received a complaint about the noise and was required to check it out. However, as soon as he saw the scene he rushed to the dead bodies to check their pulse; but as soon as he touched the cold skin he knew they were dead.

Eventually, Izuku was taken to the hospital to be checked up. The doctors gave him the clear, and after a span of a few hours, but what felt like a few minutes, Izuku was in an orphanage sitting on a bed.

His black and white Kamen rider kabuto-themed messenger bag and a suitcase of some of his belongings were sitting at the feet of his bed, and in his arms, he held a medium-sized terrarium for his Kabutomushi.

''Why us,'' he muttered out loud as his fingers clenched the edges of the terrarium.

Izuku never got an answer. Instead, he only got more questions. The biggest of which was, ''Why do bad things happen to good people?" Izuku heard the concept of karma before. He didn't quite get it, but he got the basics. Do good and good will be done to you, but do bad and bad will be done to you.

But his parents were good people, he was a good kid. He was nice, ate his vegetables, listened to his parents, rarely threw a fit, didn't lie, didn't bother other kids, and did well in school.

Their lives should have stayed happy. But no, his parents were dead and he was alone in a strange place.

It didn't help that his status as a quirkless person spread like wildfire. Kids his age would treat him like he was infected and would tell him to go away and the older kids would judge him.

He could hear what they said.

''That kid never hangs out with anyone. What a loser.''

''Didn't you hear about him? Everyone knows...He's quirkless.''

''What a total freak.''

''If I were him I would have killed myself. Why does he bother living?"

Izuku's only friend and salvation was his pet beetle, whom he named Sho. Sho was as healthy and as big as a Kabutomushi could be, his black exoskeleton was so shiny and reflective that Izuku could see his face in it

Izuku carried Sho's terrarium with him and took him everywhere. He didn't trust the other kids, not after they almost destroyed his Shinkenger morpher for no other reason than they wanted to.

However, at least the kids kept to themselves and didn't hurt Izuku much other than the occasional shoving and tripping. The adult staff members on the other hand, well, Izuku didn't want to be around them when they were angry.

When they were angry or had even a drop of alcohol in their system Izuku would become a victim.

His skin was used as an ashtray leaving deep burns and blisters, he would be pulled by his hair and thrown into a corner, kicked, punched, spit on, and degraded. They often banned him from eating and kick him outside to sleep in the grass.

Izuku didn't know why. He had no idea why he was being treated like this by everyone. No one said anything when Izuku was being abused so maybe the others weren't the problem. Maybe Izuku was the problem. No, if he was his parents wouldn't have treated him nicely. The problem was that he was powerless in a world where power meant everything.

So he stayed quiet, did as he was told, and never once complained. But behind his kind and obedient act something inside him was stirring.

He was angry.

No.

Not just angry. He was furious.

Why did he have to be born powerless? What did he do to deserve this? What did he do to deserve to be an orphan?

He was good, he was good even after he was treated like dirt. But that did nothing, so why try to be good? At the very least, if he was going to be treated like garbage he may as well deserve to be treated like garbage.

Izuku started to lash out, beat up the other kids who talked about him behind his back, yell profanities, steal, rebel, lie, cheat, and destroy anything he felt like destroying. Chairs? Broken. Beds? Sliced open. Clothes? Ripped to shreds.

This only made the beatings from the adult members and the isolation from the fellow orphans worse, but at least now Izuku could say he deserved it.

However, all this only lasted for about a year.

Izuku was kicked out and told to never come back. So now he was homeless, hungry, and carried Sho in his messenger bag. Izuku may not have been the smartest kid around, but he knew carrying around his suitcase would only cause him issues so he hid it in the orphanage.

''So Sho. Where the fuck do we go now?''

Silence.

Izuku sighed and walked around. There was nothing he could do except walk, he had no money and he was definitely not going to sell anything he owned for a cheap yen.

So with his hands in his pockets, he walked around the city with a scowl on his face. People simply avoided the dirty child who admittedly smelled a bit.

''What are you looking at,'' Izuku shouted at someone who stared at him for more than a few seconds. ''You want to say something! Say it to my face you piece of shit!''

The plain-looking middle school girl smacked him across the face but Izuku just pounced and started to pull her hair, punch her in the face, knee her stomach. He kept on hitting her until a middle-aged man with a ribcage around his neck, black hair, and silver eyes, forcefully pulled him away from the girl.

Izuku, who was now being held by the man, brought his leg up into the air and kicked backward. The man let go and crumbled to the ground as Izuku fled into an alleyway.

Rather clumsily he climbed on the fire escapes on the sides of the building and escaped.

''Fucking bitch,'' Izuku whispered as he collapsed onto the roof of the building he was scaling. Sho crawled out of the messenger bag and onto Izuku's shoulder. ''At least you won't judge me Sho,'' Izuku said with a small smile as he pet his beetle's horn with his index finger.

Sho buzzed its elytra and lightly pushed Izuku's finger forward.

''I get it I get it. You want some food.''

Izuku reached into his bag and pulled out a beetle stick. He ate a bit of it and carefully fed the rest to Sho.

''You and me against the world Sho...Yeah. Just you and me...No one else. Not Mom or Dad. You miss them too right? Don't worry about answering. I know.''
