I Won't Say I'm In Love

Summary:

Even after everything the two of them have been through, Alastor is still trying to deny just how he feels about the king of hell. Maybe it's finally time for his shadow to give him the push he needs.

Notes:

Thank you to Danielalalee on YouTube who made an amazing animatic to the song "I Won't Say I Am In Love" from Disney Hercules for Radioapple. Thank you for letting me take the idea and write a fanfic on it. I enjoyed it very much and I hope you do too. I may have tried to stalk you a bit to try and find your A03 so I could gift this to you, but to no avail.

Work Text:

Alastor finds himself balling his fist up and lets out a deep growl as he leans over his desk. He hadn't expected such a short person to be able to get on his nerves so but here he was.

The red-haired male could feel the frustration build in his stomach the longer that he thought of the incident. It caused him to grab his desk even harder. The smile on his lips grew even bigger to the point his cheeks were hurting.

No man, if he could even call that thing a man, was worth this much aggravation. Not even his history with Vox was this aggravating.

"Why deny it? You have feelings for them. It's pretty obvious to everyone here. I even think I heard Angel Dusk and Husk speaking about how close the two of you are. You both are raising Charlie together anyway." Alastor heard his shadow say from behind him. If he had to guess he would think that his shadow was feeding off the pitiful displace that Alastor was putting on.

He could then feel the tall tell signs of said shadow creeping up closer to him. The coolness against his back almost sent a shiver down his spine. His shadow hadn't been this close to him for a while now. He should step away. Leave the room. Call his shadow stupid. He should do something.

Instead, Alastor found himself glaring at his shadow.

"What?" His shadow asked back, creeping closer to Alastor to the point he was looking over his shoulder. "You know what I'm saying is true." His shadow had even picked up the paper that Alastor had been staring at for the past couple of minutes. He gives it a once over before smiling. "Is this what's got you in such a tizzy? A royal ball that Charlie has decided to throw? Let me guess, she mentioned her father coming to it didn't she?"

Allen - Alastor's shadow - lets out a little chuckle as he watches Alastor's expression. Allen had been here since the beginning and had watched the two males interact through it all. And not to mention that Allen could also feel what Alastor was feeling. He was a part of Alastor after all and knew the other male inside and out. Allen already knew what was going on with the other but what's the harm in teasing the other?

"There's nothing to admit because it's not true," Alastor growled out. He had finally turned around to meet his shadow's gaze. "We both know that theirs nothing going on between me and Lucifer."

Allen snickers. "I didn't mention Lucifer. I could have been talking about anyone." He says with a shit-eating grin, which had Alastor narrowing his eyes even more at his shadow.

"You are as annoying as he is," Alastor growls moving to walk away from his shadow. This conversation was getting them nowhere. He had duties that he needed to get to and now a ball to help plan.

"At least I can admit that I like him. Which is a whole lot more than you have done." Allen says moving to follow wherever Alastor was going. Even though they were a part of Alastor and knew him so well, didn't mean that he 'stayed' with him all the time. Usually, he would hide in the shadows and watch everything unfold. "I may be a part of you Alastor but even I know that what you feel for that short king isn't your usual hatred."

Allen creeps closer to the other male. He places his hands against the other's shoulder. "Even if you won't admit it we can see you think very highly of him. Like Charlie, he is your heaven here in hell. A small piece of paradise that you have carved out in this rotten place. The moment you have friends , hell isn't such a bad place is it?" Allen says before grabbing onto the other male's chin and forcing him to look at a mirror.

A flash of a memory pops up in his mind of Lucifer stroking his cheek after one too many drinks. He had held it so gently.

"You won't be able to deny it for much longer Alastor. Even right now you are thinking of him. Pathetic." Allen says letting his other hand trail up to Alastor's neck. He pulled outward into the air to revile the leash around Alastor's neck. "If we can see right through it you know who else can too right? You may be able to conceal your feelings for them now but what about in the future? What will you do if she finds out that you have been fraternizing with her ex-husband?"

Alastor rips his chin away from his shadow before moving out of his grip. He brushes off his clothes as he speaks. "There is nothing to conceal," Alastor says with a finality of it all.

The red-haired male could ignore the feelings. There was nothing there or between the two of them. Everyone was imagining it, even if he did sometimes stay up at night wishing to hold the other male as he slept.

It didn't mean anything. Whatever was going on would fade. He would never let those words slip from his mouth again. No matter how much they wanted to. It was too dangerous for both of them. He had his plan that he couldn't get sidetracked from and Lucifer was the king of hell.

They were different.

Even if he wanted to watch the other male flourish and help both him and Charlie achieve their dream. He couldn't let these stupid thoughts and feelings get in the way. He needed to unclip his wings and remove this stupid deal. Everything he does is for that purpose.

Alastor begins to walk out of his radio tower.

"Just give up and give in or at least check your smile when you are around him," Allen says before Alastor walks out.

Lucifer found himself lying in bed while looking up at his ceiling. He had let his thoughts get consumed by a certain red-haired radio demon. It wasn't the first time that this had happened and it wouldn't be the last.

Each time the King of Hell found himself visiting the hotel to see his daughter the emotions that he felt for Alastor would grow.

At first, it had been that Lucifer was annoyed by the radio demon. But his hatred and bitterness turned into someone more like teasing. This then ended up becoming flirting. It was a different experience than he had experienced with Lilith.

With Lilith, Lucifer was intrigued. He wanted to know more about these creatures that God had created in Eden. This fascination soon turned into wanting to help Lilith get away from Adam. And as he tried to help he had fallen in love with her.

But thousands and thousands of years together can cause many emotions to build up. Not either their daughter could mend their relationship.

It also didn't help that Lucifer's depression throughout the years had only gotten worse.

So it was different but Lucifer didn't mind it.

No, instead in a strange twist of fate, he enjoyed it. When was the last time that he had felt the giddy feeling of having a crush? When was the last time that he had let himself fall for another?

Lucifer knew that what he was feeling would be short-lived. Alastor was a sinner after all. And with how things were currently looking with the angels, he could die at any moment.

This also didn't include Alastor sexuality. From what Charlie had explained to him was that Alastor was asexual or an 'Ace In The Hole'. Knowing this possibility meant that Alastor was not interested in any romantic relationships.

It did not stop Lucifer from holding onto these feelings for a while longer.

Lucifer sits up in his bed and looks at the ring on his finger. He only wore it now due to him being so used to wearing it.

Now though it felt heavy. It stung anytime he looked at it. He knew his marriage with Lilith wouldn't ever get better, so what was the use of keeping the ring on? It was pointless holding onto a past that was not rebuildable. Lilith had been gone for years now. It was time for him to move on, even if it wasn't with Alastor. Who knows how many years he had ahead of him to live? So why waste any more of them on her?

For now, he would keep ahold of it in case Charlie and her angelic girlfriend ever tied the knot. It would be a nice keepsake for their future. Charlie would also want something from her mother as a wedding gift or to have at the service.

Lucifer takes off his ring and places it on his nightstand beside his bed. For a moment he holds his hand over the ring before letting out a tired sigh.

' At least out loud, I won't say I'm in love.' Lucifer thinks to himself.
