Caesar gazed through the window, watching the sun rise over Air Supplena Island. The sheets slid over his naked body, casting odd shadows against the flickering flame of a dying candle. Thick fog dulled the coming morning's shine, but the golden glow gave the room an ethereal feeling.
He sighed, wondering what the day's training would bring. Lisa Lisa had been unrelenting in her teachings, and though he understood the urgency of the situation, it made rare moments of peace all the more appreciated. He wondered how long it would take for the island's few remaining birds to begin singing. With dark italian winter in full swing, the wild creatures had all retreated elsewhere. It gave the day an eerie, ominous atmosphere. One of impending death.
He shook off the grim thoughts, wanting to believe that things would proceed smoothly. Joseph and him had both been diligent in their training, even despite the tortuous extremes their mentor would drive them to in order to improve. A clock ticked incessantly in the background, bringing Caesar's mind to the rings in Joseph's heart and time running out. He propped himself up on his arms to look around for the offending household instrument, involuntarily disturbing the person sleeping next to him in the process.
"Caesar..." he grumbled, stirring under the covers "Let me sleep..."
"We'll have to wake up soon anyway." Caesar whispered back "Lisa Lisa will want us to start training early."
The brunette turned to face him, eyes half lidded from sleep.
"Guh, can't we catch a break? It's Christmas."
This caught Caesar off-guard. He flinched slightly, surprised. Joseph noticed this and smiled soflly.
"Don't tell me you forgot?" he teased "That means you didn't get me a present, did you?"
"Shut up. I haven't been keeping track of time." A lie. The blond looked away, embarrassed "It's not like you got me anything either."
"As a matter of fact, I did." Joseph sat up to meet Caesar at eye-level, the sheets sliding down his body, exposing the muscles on his torso. "Close your eyes."
The Italian accepted reluctantly, closing his eyes and waiting. He felt Joseph shift on the bed, then the warmth of a pair of lips on his.
