Chapter Text
She was dying.
She could feel her very soul fade, as her once godlike form melted into nothingness.
The pain. The pain was excruciating, it felt like every inch of her was set on fire.
“SOMEONE… HELP ME!”
Her voice was nearly unrecognizable as her entire body collapsed in on itself.
She wanted to cry, maybe she already was, and the tears just blended in with her melting form.
She thought she could be a hero, she thought she could save the underground from this menace, but here she was, just another victim, among god knows how many.
She realized there was no escape for her, no second wind. She was going to die here.
As she slowly fell to the ground into a gray puddle, she took one last look at the world. Her eyesight was about to give out, and yet she could make out a figure standing tall above them.
The human.
They were smiling.
They were proud.
And now they were walking away from her.
It wasn’t fair
IT WASN’T FAIR!
After EVERYTHING!
After all the monsters they slaughtered!
After all the innocent lives they ruined!
After all the hopes and dreams they shattered!
They got to win.
They got to walk away scott free.
Humanity had once again taken everything from them.
No judgment.
No consequences.
No justice.
Deep within Martlet’s very soul she felt a rageful burning hatred
Hatred for the human.
Hatred for all humans.
Hatred towards herself for not being stronger, for failing everyone.
But deep, deep in her soul was also love.
Love for monsterkind.
Love for everyone wronged by this vile being
And LOVE, lots of it…
All of these intense emotions erupted from her soul and into her physical being.
It didn’t matter if she was going to die, for the sake of monsterkind, she could not allow this human to win.
She felt herself slowly rise from the puddle of herself. she was still going to melt, but she at least needed this human dead before then.
“Y-YOOOUUU….” Martlet angerly groaned in pained voice
The human turned in surprise, but they mostly felt annoyance that the job wasn’t finished yet.
“Y-YOU BASTARD!!!”
Martlet lunged forward towards the human, like a lion attacking their prey.
The human drew their weapon and shot a massive chunk of Martlet’s gooey face off.
It hurt unbelievably bad, but Martlet didn’t care. All she wanted was to make the human suffer.
She pounced on to the human, knocking the gun out of their gun towards the other side of the roof.
She began to choke the human’s neck, putting all of her strength into her arms.
The human tried to free themselves from Martlet’s grasp but it was too late. Their fate was sealed.
They could feel their throat being crushed by the intense hold Martlet had on them. The human grabbed onto Martlet’s arms to try and move them away, but they were stronger than they looked. The Human was losing the battle and began to gag under the immense pressure.
“SSUFFERRRRR!!!” Martlet hissed towards the human.
Despite the intense struggle, Martlet was still melting. Droplets of herself were falling onto the human’s face, some of them even (disgustingly) fell into the human’s gaping mouth. Though this proved to be a benefit as it only helped speed up the choking process.
Eventually the human’s face went pale, their gagging slowed down, and their grip on Martlet’s arms weakened. Suddenly, their eyes stopped moving, they stopped making noise, and their arms fell to the ground.
The human was dead.
Martlet had won.
She let out a gasp, and she stopped gripping the human’s neck. Her body relaxed and flopped onto the human’s body.
Now that the human was dead, the emotions that allowed her to last this long faded, and she began to melt at a faster rate.
She was dying, but she was ok with it.
She had given the human what they deserved, and now monsterkind was safe.
As she felt her soul leaving this life, she felt satisfied. She didn’t want to die, but if she was going to die protecting monsterkind, then maybe it wasn’t so bad.
As her mind faded, she had one last thought.
“I’ll see you soon Chujin…” and she ceased to be.
.
.
.
Except she didn’t see Chujin again…
because she wasn’t dying.
She opened her eyes, expecting some kind of afterlife, only to see the same rooftop and the body of the human beneath her.
She was confused, and then she looked at herself. She was still goopy, but it had a slight blue tinge to it. But suddenly it wasn’t a slight blue anymore, it was slowly turning into a darker rich blue. And it wasn’t just the color. the slimy texture was fading away.
Martlet felt herself involuntarily rise out of the puddle she had become, seeing the world shrink around her.
The pieces of her that fell off were magically attracted to her reforming body, and placed themselves back onto her.
Martlet felt a wave of relief wash over her as she realized that she was not going to die. At first she thought she was turning back to normal, but she soon came to realize that she didn't feel normal.
At last, her regeneration finished, and she looked at herself. She was right, she hadn’t turned back to normal. Instead, this miracle had given her the form she gained from injecting herself with the serum.
Now that her life wasn’t being threatened, she could really get a good look at the dramatic transformation the serum had given her.
Her once light blue feathers had become a dark rich black. Her wing span had grown dramatically, nearly spanning the entire length of the rooftop. She could see thousands of small lights within her otherwise pitch black wings. They reminded her of the crystals in Waterfall. She had about doubled in height, now reaching a little over 12 feet tall. Her hair had grown long, wild, and untamed. It reached all the way down to the ground, and dragged behind her. Her talons not only grew in length, but now became so sharp that the roof had little indentations from where she stood.
As thankful as she was to still be alive, she couldn’t help but feel disappointed that she didn’t return to normal. This new form was cool and all, but it didn’t really feel like… her.
Still, she was glad to be alive, but was confused on why she was alive in the first place. She had just felt herself melt away.
Then she looked at the human…
They were lying on the concrete, they looked to be dead.
She cautiously approached the human, and inspected them. She turned over their body, and felt their forehead. She could confirm they were dead.
It was then that an idea popped in her head.
“Oh no…. Oh nononono….”
She summoned her own soul and took a look at it. It seemed to look normal, just an white upside down heart. But she looked closer and could see a faint glow from within it.
A yellow glow…
A yellow heart-shaped glow…
She gasped and stumbled backwards. Her theory was correct.
She tried to compose herself and think of what to do. She just wanted to protect people, she didn’t want this. How was she going to explain herself to Asgore, her family, or anyone for that matter. She paced back and forth, trying her hardest to think of something to do. After what felt like an eternity pacing on the rooftop (it was really only about two minutes) she decided on what to do.
She was going to confess.
She was going to go towards Asgore’s castle, and tell him everything.
The theft, her transformation, and what became of the human.
It scared her no doubt. She had probably broken about 20 laws, and would no doubt face consequences. Yet, she felt it was the only reasonable thing to do.
And so, she spread out her wings and took flight towards Asgore’s castle.
She was unaware that on top of a nearby building, a flower was watching her…

“COME ON, EVERYONE NEEDS TO EVACUATE NOW!!!”
To say that Undyne was stressed was an understatement.
It wasn’t the killer human on the loose that stressed her out. Hell! If push came to shove she could probably take them down.
No, it wasn’t that, it was the sheer panic of everyone in New Home trying desperately to evacuate.
They were all so scared, holding their loved ones close as they desperately pushed through the crowds of monsters feeling the same way.
Normally she could manage to keep cool under pressure, but something about watching normal civilians succumb to fear so intensely, chilled her to her very core.
Even the other guards that were helping with the evacuation, could tell Undyne was not herself.
Suddenly everyone in New Home could feel a strong gust of wind brush against them. Some unsuspecting monsters were even thrown off their feet (if they had any).
Everyone looked upwards, as a large dark shape flew above them in an instant.
If any of the evacuating monsters weren’t already on edge now, they sure were now. Many of them started to scream and yell, some of them raving about “an angel”.
Even Undyne was caught off guard by the sudden appearance and subsequent disappearance of the mysterious shape. Thinking quickly, she climbed on top of one of the buildings of New Home (an easy feat for her) and spotted the shape flying towards Asgore’s castle. She looked down at the guards on the street below and called out to them.
“Keep evacuating the civilians, that thing is heading towards Asgore’s castle. If whatever it is wants to hurt him I need to stop it!”
“Aye Aye Captain!” Responded Royal Guard 03, but Undyne didn’t hear her. She was already parkouring across New Home, chasing after that shape.
Undyne had a gut feeling that whatever this thing was, the Human reported in Snowdin and the Dunes had something to do with it.
She wasn’t entirely wrong….

Martlet wanted to land gracefully, but instead she tumbled onto the pavement in a rather anticlimactic fashion. She still wasn't used to flying around in her new body. Nonetheless, she had made it to Asgore's castle.
She entered the castle, walking through the famous judgment hall. She wasn't really sure why monsters called it that, but she still thought it sounded cool. As she walked down the golden walls, she looked back and realized that her talons were leaving small indents in the floor. She was upset that she had damaged such a famous landmark, but she had bigger problems right now and continued on her path to the throne room.
The floor of the throne room was covered in grass and yellow flowers. The calming atmosphere of the throne room helped to ease Martlet’s nerves, but only by a little. Asgore was standing off to the left side of the room. He was looking solemnly out a window, down at the crowds of panicking New Home citizens. He didn’t even notice that Martlet had entered the room.
“U-um… K-king Asgore… sir?”
Asgore continued to look out the large window, but did begin to speak to her.
“I’m sorry miss, I’m not seeing any monsters today… Please, save yourself, and evacuate.”
“T-that's the thing… I-I took care of it…”
“Hmmm?” Asgore turned to look at Martlet.
Upon looking at Martlet, Asgore felt a wave of panic wash over him. He gasped loudly and fell over onto his back, staring up at a both confused and worried Martlet.
“Im… I'm sorry, that was unprofessional of me.” Asgore said as he stood back up. “I… I presume that the human soul you absorbed was the one who started all this. Correct?”
Martlet grew shocked “H-how did you know t-that…?”
Asgore’s face grew weary “I have seen a monster fused with a human soul before…”
Martlet remembered the stories she was told as a hatchling, and suddenly Asgore’s reaction made sense to her. She wanted to say something to comfort him, but before a word could leave her beak, Undyne rushed into the throne room.
“YOU! GET AWAY FROM ASGORE!” her spear pointed directly at Martlet.
“EEKK!!! UM!!! A-AT YOUR SERVICE CAPTAIN UNDYNE SIR... UH… MA’AM!!!” Martlet had dramatically turned around to face Undyne and saluted her. Undyne was already an intimidating person to Martlet, but Undyne running into the room with her weapon drawn certainly didn’t help.
Undyne’s demeanor changed from a furious rage to confusion, as she put down her spear it suddenly hit her.
“Martlet…?”
Asgore peeked around Martlet. “Is she one of yours Undyne?”
“Well… she is part of the snowdin deviation.” Undyne then addressed Martlet “At ease soldier.”
Martlet put down her wing and breathed a sigh of relief. Unydne continued to look at Martlet with confusion on how the scatterbrained bluebird that got on probation, somehow became the behemoth standing in front of her.
“Martlet… what happened to you?” Undyne questioned.
Martlet nervously looked at Asgore then back at Undyne.
“I have a lot of explaining to do…”
