Chapter Text
When Monica Rowe noticed the way Mackey’s eyes darted around and saw the slight frustration in her eyes, she couldn’t help but chuckle, knowing she was going to make the woman’s job much harder. She had wanted to go toe-to-toe with the special agent, but when she noticed that she and the Constable had left the other woman without any protection, she decided to make her first stop where the other woman was. When the other woman was finally able to realize who she was with, Monica knew she didn’t have to play the part of a pregnant woman any longer. She aims her gun at Blue, who simply stares at her, nothing but fright in her gaze. “You’re not an agent like that woman is,” she said after ripping her disguise, wanting to show Blue how she looked. “Good. It means I can use you,” Blue tried to scramble away from the woman however, the other woman was quicker to take her elbow in a rough grab.
“Help! Let me go!” Blue didn’t realize that her shrieks made Mackey and Evie frantic. The two women made sure their guns were out and loaded, knowing they would do anything to keep Blue away from harm. Mackey was the first to show herself to the woman who held Blue’s arm tightly. She trained her gun on the woman who had decided to reveal her true appearance to everyone else as she sneered at the special agent.
“You…” Mackey was not happy to see the woman, knowing she had a ticket out of being arrested for the time being. She has Blue. Mackey wanted to shoot the woman for even touching the smaller one and honestly, Mackey was angry at herself. She should have known that the woman wasn’t pregnant and now, Blue was the woman’s captive as she tried to push herself away from her captor. The blonde-haired woman sneered at Mackey, knowing that the woman was pissed. I should have known she was faking the pregnancy. Mackey let a small growl all from her lips, her anger steadily increasing. She…No… They needed to get Blue back. This is not a one-man’s land. Mackey knew she was panicking because she had been making sure Blue wouldn’t have been put into danger in such a way. Fuck! Mackey glared at the blonde-haired woman, wishing she could just put a bullet between her eyes.
That would solve everyone’s problems. “Pull the trigger, I dare you,” Mackey’s eyes narrowed at the words, knowing that the woman was baiting her into shooting her gun. No matter how badly I want to kill her, I can’t shoot her. I’m letting my emotions take over. Mackey thought, closing her eyes and letting her gun drop slightly. “You’re giving up?” Monica asked. Mackey gritted her teeth, knowing she couldn’t let the woman affect what she was doing but Blue was watching with wide eyes.
“Boss…” Evie called out to the woman, watching Mackey’s facial expression. Mackey clicked her tongue.
“Stand down,” she did not want to say those words but Mackey knew she would rather get Blue back alive. I don’t want to see her in a body bag. Mackey didn’t want to see the woman on the autopsy table. Evie clicked her tongue in displeasure but she understood how Mackey felt as she kept her eyes trained on the woman who was holding Blue’s elbow. Blue switched her gaze between Mackey and Evie, knowing that both women wanted to shoot the suspect. “Blue…Birdy…” Mackey didn’t care if the suspect heard the nickname she had for Blue, wanting to keep the woman safe.
Blue’s eyes kept being wide, knowing Mackey was losing her shit the more she was staring at the suspect. “What is your actual name?” Mackey did not want to talk to the woman but she wanted to get Blue back safely. The blonde-haired woman sneered at Mackey.
“Ana Niemus,” Ana answered. That sounds too much like Anonymous. Must be a fake name of hers. Mackey wondered what the woman wanted from them, knowing that her team couldn’t possibly have what she was looking for.
“Your real name,” Mackey ordered. Ana smirked at her.
“I’m not giving you that information and besides, you’re not the one in charge here,” Ana moved her fingers to Blue’s throat as a small warning, causing a small whine to fall from the smaller woman. Mackey’s hands twitched with the urge to lift her gun at the woman once again but she didn’t want Ana to make any sudden moves to threaten Blue’s safety. “Remember that,” Ana told the woman. Mackey gritted her teeth at the words, wishing she could get Blue back on their side now. Ana turned to Blue. “Aren’t you adorable?” She started to pay more attention to Blue, not wanting the woman to feel left out. Blue whimpered at the words, hoping to have been ignored for a little while longer.
“Leave her alone,” Mackey growled. “You want to talk to someone, you talk to me,” Evie glanced between Mackey and Ana, knowing that her boss was extremely displeased at seeing Blue in danger.
“I will talk to you but it will be later,” Ana said. Before anyone could even react, she started to run away, keeping Blue in her right grip, not wanting to lose her hostage.
“No!” Both Mackey and Evie yelled, not wanting to let Ana leave with Blue in her clutches. However, after a few minutes of following after her, with even JD and DeShawn following after them to help them catch up to Ana but after a few moments, it seemed as though she had disappeared with Blue in tow.

Once everyone had gotten back inside the building, Mackey growled as she refused to talk to anyone, wanting to be left alone.
She had failed.
She had fucking failed.
She needed to get Blue back. Birdy. Mackey thought with a frown, letting another growl fall from her lips. “Fuck!”
Outside of the room, everyone listened to the sounds of anger mixed with agony that continued to fall from Mackey’s mouth. “What happened?” JD questioned, wanting to know how a criminal managed to take their forensic scientist away.
It didn’t help that Mackey and Evie were both feeling guilty because there wasn’t anything they could have done without risking Blue’s safety. JD looked at the two women, wanting someone to answer his question. Soon, he started to feel the guilt as well. “I shouldn’t have let her go in my place,” he said after a few moments. “Blue is meant to stay here, where it is safe for her, and the one time she leaves, she is taken,” JD couldn’t believe it. Blue wasn’t like them; she wasn’t a field agent. She was a scientist. She was their scientist and she had been spirited away by a criminal. Roy looked at everyone else, knowing he needed to get them into thinking about getting Blue back without the woman getting hurt.
“I know you’re worried about her. I’m worried. We need to get her back from the woman who had taken her,” Roy told them. He knew they needed Blue back at the office. He knew she was the reason why they started to get better at getting along. The woman was such a dear and now, they had to make sure she came home safely. Mackey needed to have Blue back in her arms again. I was so close and I failed to get her back. Next time will be different. Mackey refused to fuck up like that ever again.
Blue was right there, and she wasn’t able to stop Ana from taking her away. “I watched her take Blue away,” Mackey mumbled.
“We both did,” Evie spoke up, seeing the way JD was about to respond to Mackey’s words. “She was right there and that damned woman was able to steal Blue away from us,” Evie looked over at Mackey, who was trying to hide the tears that threatened to spill over. She then cleared her throat, trying to not let the tears fall. Crying wasn’t going to get anything done. Crying wasn’t going to bring Blue back to them, to her.
