Work Text:

“Dude, you’ve going out for like 4 months now—she’s gonna think you don’t like her, or whatever.”

“That’s not it at all! I do like her, I like her a lot, I’m just…I don’t wanna rush anything, y’know?”

Pim sat across from his best friend and coworker Charlie at the table in the break room, fiddling with his hands idly as he talked. In their wait for a new client, they struck up a conversation that somehow landed on the topic of Pim’s girlfriend: you. You had met the two just about a year ago at this point, when your friend called them to your home to enlist their aid. You’d been down in the dumps for some time, and your friend just couldn’t bear to see you like that anymore. So, they flipped open the yellow pages and gave the Smiling Friends a call. You still recall the zany adventure you went on that day, and how you’d never felt more happy than you did at the end of it all. Even after their job was complete, they still made an effort to come and see you every once in a while. As time went on, the three of you saw more and more of each other, eventually becoming nearly inseparable. Whatever fun/exciting/dangerous adventure they went on, you were there at their side. This eventually culminated in you being offered a position at Smiling Friends HQ, and the rest is history.

Being the happy-go-lucky guy he was, Pim always saw to it that the three of you had a great time together. Whether you were out on a job or simply sitting on the couch and watching television, he made sure everyone was having fun and enjoying themselves. Spending all this time together seemed to affect the little pink critter, and he soon found himself developing feelings for you. He confided in Charlie these feelings, who promised to keep them a secret—though, it was hard to explain Pim’s flustered reactions towards you without giving it away. Still, you remained none the wiser, and even found his antics quite amusing and cute. It took some time before Pim would build up the courage to ask you to coffee, where he’d reveal his true feelings and ask you to be his girlfriend. The thought of you and him together had crossed your mind several times, you admitted, and you definitely weren’t apposed to the idea. From that day on, you and Pim were an item, spending nearly every second of every day together. You’d go on dates to DaveLand, he’d buy you gifts (and you him), and spend quality time together. It was the picture of pure love and affection…

except Pim still just couldn’t muster up the courage to give you a kiss on the lips.

Sure, you’d shared cheek and forehead kisses, but as much as Pim just wanted to shower you with smooches all over, this nagging feeling in his chest kept him from acting on it. It still felt too soon in the relationship to make any grand gestures, he’d tell himself, though his yellow friend disagreed.

“4 months is not rushing anything, dude. If anything, she’s probably been waiting for you to make a move.” Charlie said, leaning back in his chair as he scrolled on his phone. Pim stared down at the table, letting out a small sigh. “She just means so much to me, Charlie—believe me, all I want to do is kiss her and show her that…“ Pim leaned on his hand, staring off into nothing as his face flushed a bright pink, “but I don’t want to scare her off.” The yellow critter before him sat up straight and put a hand to his chin, appearing deep in thought. Soon after, he snapped his fingers and stood up from his chair. “I got it. Tonight, take her out on a romantic date: dinner, dancing, the movies, whatever—“ he gestured into the air, “get her flowers, chocolate, jewelry, chicks love that stuff. Then, when she’s all impressed with you, you just lean in and kiss her. There’s no way she’ll turn you down after that.” Charlie finished, closing his eyes with a smirk. “I don’t know, Charlie, isn’t that all a little superficial? I mean—“

“Hey, do you wanna be an alpha male like me, or have her run off for some other guy?”
“What? No, I—“
“In fact, maybe I’ll call her and see what she’s up to tonight—“
Pim shot out of his chair like a rocket, out of the break room, and back home, immediately flipping open his notebook and jotting down ideas for the most romantic night you could dream of.
“That’s what I thought.”

Pim had called you rather suddenly, asking if you’d like to join him at Spaghetti Disco for dinner and some dancing tonight. It definitely beat lounging around in sweatpants all day, as it was your day off. Besides, you always loved to see your adorable boyfriend! He told you to put on your nicest dress, then quickly followed with “I mean, you make every dress look nice!” You giggled, something that always made Pim blush. There was something about your laugh that was just so enchanting. Your “nicest dress” was actually a gift from Pim, a (F/C) cocktail dress he saw you eyeing when you went shopping with him some time ago. “You just looked like you wanted it a lot, and you never treat yourself, so—“ he wasn’t able to finish that sentence before you scooped him up into the tightest hug you could. Doing your hair and makeup as nice as you could, you threw on the dress and a matching pair of shoes. A quick twirl in the mirror confirmed what everyone already knew: you looked radiant. Pim certainly thought so, as he nearly dropped the flowers and chocolates he was holding when you opened the door. You graciously accepted them, giving him a little peck on the cheek as thanks. He blushed, naturally, and led you to his car. For as long as you’d known each other, you always got a kick out of how silly Pim looked when he drove. It was a wonder he could see anything at all, what with how small he was. Still, it was one of the many things you loved about him.

You arrived at Spaghetti Disco around 8PM, the place decently packed. Pim wasted no time getting you both seated with drinks and dinner, and soon after the sound of music carried you both to the dance floor. It was a wonderful night, and you felt like the only girl in the entire room as you danced to the music. Pim, though he was having a wonderful time as well, couldn’t stop thinking about Charlie’s advice.

Then, when she’s all impressed with you, you just lean in and kiss her. There’s no way she’ll turn you down after that.

Could it really be as simple as that? Just ‘lean in’? Surely you deserved better than all of this conventional nonsense. He thought himself a fool for considering Charlie would understand just how strongly he felt for you, just how much you deserved the world—and more. He hadn’t realized how lost in his own thoughts he was until you tapped him on the shoulder. “Pim? Are you alright? You looked kinda spacey there…” Pim jumped, staring into the (E/C) eyes he’s always loved. Your beautiful eyes, your gorgeous hair, and those oh-so-appealing lips that called to him so loudly he could almost actually hear it.
“Oh! Uh- Um, yes! Yes (Y/N), I’m fine, sorry. Just, um, thinking about something funny Allan said the other day, haha…” He chuckled uncomfortably, something you picked up on. “Hey,” you said, pulling him off the dance floor and back to your booth, “do you wanna maybe…get out of here? Go back to my place?” You said, brushing a stray lock of hair from your face with a smile. Your boyfriend’s eyes widened, ‘Oh god, is this actually happening already?’ Pim’s mind (and heart) was racing, sooner or later he’d have to confront it—he couldn’t put it off any longer. Tonight was the night he would finally take your relationship to the next level.
“Y…Yeah, let’s head back to yours.”

The drive home was eerily silent, safe for the radio playing quietly. This was so unlike Pim, you thought. Usually he’d be talking up a storm about whatever crossed his mind, but as he gripped the wheel, he remained stone faced. You thought maybe you did something wrong, did something to upset him. He wasn’t always very vocal about the things that upset him; you wished he’d work on that, it wasn’t healthy to keep all of those feelings in. Finally, after a long, “tension was so thick you could slice it with a knife” car ride, you arrived back at your house. Pim hopped down from his seat, fiddling with his shirt collar as he opened your door for you. You kicked off your shoes, grateful for the comfort your carpet brought your aching feet. As fun as tonight was, you wished you had brought a change of shoes to dance in. Pim waited for you, watching you with those large unblinking eyes of his. Still, he seemed nervous about something, though you couldn’t quite get a bead on him. You led him to your bedroom, patting the spot next to you as you sat down on your comforter. “Pim, darling, are you sure you’re alright? You’ve seemed…I don’t know, a little fidgety tonight. Did I do something to upset you?” You asked, causing his eyes to widen and his face to flush bright red. Oh dear, had he really gave you the impression that you’d done something wrong? He felt just awful, making you worry like this. “What? No, no! (Y/N), nothing you could do would ever upset me. You’re just…so perfect in every way, I guess I still find myself acting like a fool around you…” he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, looking down at the floor. “Um, I actually have something for you.” He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a little black box. He instructed you to turn around and close your eyes, and fastened a beautiful silver necklace around your neck. A shining diamond rested on it, sparkling with the dim light in your bedroom. “Oh, Pim, it’s…it’s beautiful!” You turned to face him, tiny tears pricking the corners of your eyes. “W-Well, it’s certainly the…second most beautiful thing in the room, heh…” you smiled so brightly, Pim swore it rivaled the diamond hanging around your neck. “Listen, (Y/N), there’s something…important I want to tell you…or, show you, rather…” he stood on your bed, now eye level with you.
“Ever since I first met you, I knew how special you were. When we started going out, I only ever felt undying adoration for you, and it’s something I still feel today. You’re…the most special person I’ve ever met, and not a day goes by where I don’t thank my lucky stars for giving me you…”
The tears that rested in the corners of your eyes began to fall.
“I could never, ever overstate just how much you mean to me, but…”
Pim leaned in closer to you, holding your hands in his.
“I hope this will show at least a fraction of it.”
All of the sudden, Pim’s lips crashed into your own in a display of passion you had never seen from him before. His hands found their way up to your chin, your own resting on the sides of his face. It seemed that, in that moment, the only thing that existed was you and him. No amount of time in that moment would have ever been enough, but you were still a little disappointed when he pulled away. Key words: a little bit, as you mostly felt a blissful weightlessness all throughout your body. You stared back at your lover, his own eyes glossed over with tears of happiness. No words found their way to your now-kissed lips, just an ever growing smile paired with gleeful laughter. You pulled Pim back in for another kiss, finally reveling in the feeling of his lips on yours. He smiled into it, letting out a few giggles of his own. The courage he felt in that moment overpowered him as he deepened the kiss, leaning into you and resting his hand on your back. You gave a little squeak as he dipped you down, never having seen this side of him. You let go once more for air, the smile on your face never fading. “Pim…I’ve wanted to do that for so long, I…I love you, so so much.” Pim smiled back at you, taking in every feature of your gorgeous face.
“I love you too, (Y/N)…more than anything…”
With the seal now broken, you peppered little kisses all along his face and down his neck, amused at the way he tittered and twisted in your grasp.
“I never knew how passionate you could be, Pim…I like this side of you.” You whispered, walking your fingers up his arm and resting them under his chin. He blushed furiously, mouth slightly agape.

“Man, you guys can’t keep your hands off each other today,” Charlie commented, watching how you and Pim loved on each other. You gave your boyfriend a loving smooch on the cheek, leaving a comical lipstick print pressed into his face. “Heh, s- sorry Charlie, we just—“
“Nah nah, I get it—it’s nice to uh, see you two finally getting serious.”
Pim just nodded with a goofy smile as you got up to grab something from the other room, leaving him with yet another kiss.
“So, I guess you did it?” Charlie asked when you were out of earshot.
“Uh…yeah, haha.” Pim replied, still a little bit lightheaded.
“Hell yeah man, knew you could do it. So, uh…”

“What’s she like in bed?”
