Amity felt her mental stability was reaching its end. Her senses were becoming unglued and she thought she had a disease. She tried looking for a cure, but it turns out she was just in love. As long as Luz continued being around her, everything she did would make Amity question her mental health. When Luz was in danger, it made Amity lose control as if she wanted to hurt herself by standing up to her mother.
If anyone was listening to Amity, she would've asked them to slap some sense into her. But she'd already turned away from Boscha, so she could only talk to herself in her diary. Her anxiety over asking Luz out was getting her strung out and frustrated, making her feel like she was losing her head as she banged it up against the wall in her library hideout.
Sometimes Luz thought about just telling everyone to leave her alone so she wouldn't be able to hurt them anymore. Maybe she could lock herself in a padded room to protect the world from her. She sat in the pantry spewing her guts, puking out the hard apple blood she'd swiped from Eda's stash (never again, she told herself). She was such a drunken fool, and yet everything Amity did was questioning her mental health. Despite everything, Amity still loved her. It was making her lose control, and she couldn't trust herself not to do something she'd regret to her girlfriend.
She thought that if anyone could hear her talk right now, they could slap some sense into her. But instead, King and Hooty turned around to comfort her, so she ended up just scolding herself in her head. Her anxiety over dooming the entire Boiling Isles was getting her strung out and frustrated, and she felt like she was losing her head. Or maybe that was just because she was banging it up against a wall. Either way, she hoped King's dad would be able to help them defeat Belos.
Luz was stuck in the human realm with Amity, and if she was being honest, she didn't really mind if this went on for longer. At this point, it seemed she was too far gone not to admit she was enjoying herself as Amity took her away on human realm adventures. Everything she did was questioning Luz's mental health: being happy and loving her, even while missing her father and siblings. At some point, it all made Luz lose control, and she couldn't trust herself even more after that even though Amity was clearly happy about them reaching the next step in their relationship.
At some point, Amity heard her girlfriend scolding herself and slapped some sense into her. She turned her head, and left Luz to talk to herself, contemplating what her girlfriend had said. The anxiety over getting back to the Boiling Isles was getting her strung out and frustrated, and she felt like she was losing her head as she banged it up against a wall in her room, but at least she knew her girlfriend would always be there to hold her hand and comfort her.
