Regina found it incredibly hard to say no to Cady.
She could never say no to Cady, not when she looked like that.
Not when she looked at the world with a luminous wonder in her eyes, the same adoring gaze she wore whenever Regina looked her way.
That was how Regina found herself standing under a bus stop for shelter, her arms crossed around her chest to bring her coat closet to her body, an umbrella unceremoniously leaning by her side. She could feel the windy chill of the rain brushing against her exposed skin, but it couldn’t dampen her smile.
Not when Cady was right there.
Cady was standing away from the shelter, a gleeful little look on her face as she spun and twirled around in the rain.
The rain poured down in a steady stream, the little splashes of water soaking through her coat and into her clothes, slightly dampening her shirt and pants.
Cady didn’t seem to feel the rain as a problem. She stood out in the open, her cheeks flushed with excitement as she whirled through the heavy downpour, the sound of her airy laughter barely escaping being drowned out by the rain.
Regina found it nearly impossible to refuse Cady’s every request, no matter how silly or outlandish it might be.
She could no longer accurately recall how many times she had found herself caught in the midst of Cady’s whims, swept away in that dizzying whirlwind of excitement that was the redhead’s constant state of being.
Cady was her embodiment of joy, her eyes radiating a sense of merriment as they wandered about the city, taking in every sight with her hand in Regina’s.
She was a force of nature, and Regina was powerless to resist her.
Standing under the bus stop for shelter, Regina’s shoulders sagged from the weight of the coat she was wearing, the fabric heavy and the air around her humid.
She could smell the rain coming off her skin, and the damp smell of moisture hanging in the air. Her coat was sticking to her body in the most uncomfortable way, her fingers clinging onto moist fabric.
Regina glanced over at Cady, who was soaked through her clothes, her dark flannel top completely ruined.
As she took in the sight of Cady twirling in the rain, her attention fully captivated by the droplets swirling around her and the sweet sound of the rain hitting her skin, her heart melted with affection.
She was a sight to behold, glowing while she was dancing around in the downpour.
Watching Cady never failed to bring a smile to her face, her heart fluttering with cages upon cages of butterflies each and every time.
Cady and her tendency to live life to its fullest permeated every aspect of her life, radiating a glaring glow that seemed to brighten up everything she touched. Her every action was full of a vibrantly colorful energy that was contagious and irresistible.
Regina was fascinated. She was utterly fascinated by the enigma that was Cady Heron, her every cell dancing with thrill each time they looked at each other, her own life bursting with color and brightness while her girlfriend frolicked in the rain.
She could never take her eyes off her, the sound of her laughter filling the air like the birds chirping in the spring. Regina stared at the sight in front of her with rapt interest as Cady jumped from one puddle to the other, her giggles echoing off the concrete pavement and into the dark sky. It was as if the rain had no effect on the ginger, as if she was immune to it all.
The rain was pattering softly as droplets bounced back onto Regina, who was standing still, the grin on her face so large that she was afraid her mouth would rip right off.
Cady’s movements truly were like a dance while she moved in the rain, her arms spread wide, seemingly embracing the water that splashed against her skin.
It was a playful and carefree sight, the only one that could bring such a gentle gaze to Regina’s cold eyes. In spite of the uncomfortably cold and wet weather, there was a sense of serenity and joy surrounding them, a dome built above them to shut them away from the outside world and into a universe that just contained the two of them, an overflow of tenderness and affection.
The way the raindrops fell onto her freckled cheeks gave her the ethereal appearance of a goddess, her ginger hair shining like a crimson fire as the water washed over her.
To be utterly mesmerised by a sight was to look over at Cady, the droplets hanging off her chin, her green eyes ablaze and her nose scrunched, the skin around her eyes crinkled as a string of laughter left her pretty lips.
Cady was so joyful, the moonlight radiating around her like a beautiful halo, giving her the appearance of an otherworldly being. She seemed almost transfixed by the rain as it showered upon her, the water droplets glistening in the lamplights, her body radiating, her heart full of a sense of blissful happiness.
The sparkle in her eyes from the reflection of the moonlight twinkled, a spark that was like the stars themselves had showered themselves onto her face, drawing constellations of freckles on her rosy cheeks.
She swirled, turning around so that she faced Regina, her face slightly pinched as she blinked away the rain that had gotten into her eyes, her teeth a bright smile. As she whirled around, strands of her hair flew around her in the gust of the wind that passed her by.
“Come on, Regina!” Cady shouted, her voice ringing out through the rain like someone had given her a microphone and glued the speaker to Regina’s earlobe.
The sound of rain falling against the shelter and hitting the ground was fighting against the sound of Cady calling her over. Regina couldn’t help but feel a wave of heat sweep over her heart.
Cady was moving towards her, her boots hitting harshly against the puddles of water that were pooling up everywhere, the raindrops pouring down around her, her body glistening with wetness but her eyes full of mischievous joy.
The sound of her voice was enchanting, was Regina’s first thought.
“‘Gina,” Cady yelled out again, her voice echoing from between the raindrops that danced around her, ringing with such vigor and warmth that crashes of delight rained on Regina.
The way Cady smiled, the way her voice echoed, it was like she was on broadway, singing a ballad directly into her ears, and Regina bought out the whole theatre.
Despite her better judgement, Regina couldn’t resist the irresistible call to join Cady in the rain. She could almost feel her feet moving on their own, carried by the contagious spirit that the shorter girl constantly emanated.
As she stepped out into the rain, the umbrella abandoned, the water droplets felt like a thousand tiny kisses as they rained down on her skin. The moment she left the shelter, the rain hit her with a force that made her hair frizzle up. For a second, Regina felt a jolt of annoyance, but it quickly passed when she caught a glimpse of Cady’s face.
Cady’s face emitted joy, her body filling to the brim with happiness while she playfully beckoned Regina to her. Regina could see the stale rain dripping off Cady’s hair, sticking to her face in a mess of orange, a pure expression of freedom spread through her features.
Regina approached her, the rain splashing down on her head, the droplets stinging her sing as the cold weather set in. But even in chilly temperatures, Regina felt the warmth in her heart that Cady had brought along with her.
She stepped over to her, her heart was fluttering as cold water rolled down her arms. The feeling was like a cool summer’s night, and her heartbeat quickened with each step she took toward Cady, who glowed so brightly in the gentle light of the night.
Cady took her hand, cold and warm at the same time, intertwining their fingers as she pulled Regina closer to her.
They were like sparkling gems, illuminating this moment as the two women stood in the rain, each moment passing like the gentle hum of a lullaby in the night.
Regina felt her mind and heart wrapped up, the simple sight of Cady staring right back at her making her completely forget about her.
Cady’s hand took Regina’s, her fingers fitting between the gaps of her own like a lock and a key, forming a sensation of warmth that was impossible to explain in words.
The rain was cold, but the hand that grasped hers sent a sense of warmth throughout her body. Despite the rain, despite the cold, despite the sound of cars driving past the street, their bodies seemed to be warmed by the touch of the other.
Their hands were forming a bridge to hold each other together, the cold rainwater dripping off them as they stayed close.
“You’re so pretty.” Regina whispered, her words ringing true.
Cady looked down at her laced boots, a light layer of blush spreading across her cheekbones, wet hair framing her face. “I look like a mess right now.”
Regina shook her head, lifting Cady’s head by the chin with her index finger. “You’re the prettiest girl I’ve ever met.”
Cady smiled, big and wide, her teeth showing in a cheeky grin. “I feel like I’ve heard that before.”
“Duh, I say it to you every day,” Regina tapped her on the nose. “‘Cause it’s true.”
Cady giggled at Regina’s compliment, cheeks turning into a vibrant shade of pink. Even with the rain making her hair a mess and her clothes wet, her beauty still shined through to her girlfriend.
“I think you’re the prettiest girl. Ever.” Cady glanced up at Regina, biting her lip to make her grin appear less silly-looking.
Regina laughed softly. Cady’s flustered face was adorable, the girl looking like a living fairytale.
There was not a single doubt in her mind that Cady was the most important person in her life. She was the sweetest, prettiest person she had ever met, and the blonde would make sure to tell her every single day.
Cady nodded and leaned against her. “I love you,” was the only thing she could say, her words delivered in a teasing manner, but the true meaning of the words never wavering.
“Yeah?” Regina smiled gently, her playful laughter dying down as she brushed the wet hair behind Cady’s ear. “Why don’t you prove it, then?”
Cady rolled her eyes good-heartedly, but she kept her fingers entwined with Regina’s, leaning towards the taller woman as she stood on her tiptoes.
The air around them felt crackling, the anticipation palpable in the way their bodies were drawing closer, their faces inching towards each other.
It seemed as though the world around them had vanished, and the two of them remained in an intimate bubble of their own making.
The fireworks of their souls were bursting, the emotions coursing through their veins until their lips finally met in an embrace.
Regina leaned in to reciprocate the kiss, rain sprinkling down on them in a gentle curtain. The feeling of their breaths blending together was like a gentle caress as rain droplets peppered down.
Cady’s coffee flavoured lip gloss painted every inch of Regina’s lips, and the blonde’s hand connected with her cheeks, her thumbs swiping against her soft skin. The moment belonged solely to them. No words could describe the soar in Regina’s heart, the love she felt for Cady too much to be said in any language.
No one could ever compare to Cady.
Their souls connected in a way that transcended even words’ capabilities to describe, and they only felt complete as they kissed.
Every sense was overwhelmed with the joy of their union, the feelings of love and happiness mixing together to form an emotional whirlpool that felt like it could rip them apart.
Their lips were melting together, their bodies coming in a way that felt like magic, as though the two could never truly be separated.
Cady slowly pulled back with a tiny gasp to catch her breath, letting their foreheads touch for a moment before pulling Regina in for a gentle hug.
Their shared breaths were still ragged, and a genuine smile played across both of their faces as Cady rested her head against Regina’s collarbone.
The rain had lightened, and the heavier rainfall that had lashed down on them was now reduced to a small drizzle. The silence of the night had slowly slipped back in, the two girls’ breaths returning to normal as they stayed wrapped up in each other’s embrace.
Regina pressed a kiss against Cady’s head, the sound of her heartbeat a soothing melody that made the blonde melt into her, the slow, steady rise and fall of her chest a calming presence in the cold night.
“I love you too,” Regina eventually whispered, her words soft as she whispered them into Cady’s ear.
Like the raindrops that were slowly dripping off of them, the silence was soothing, washing over them with the gentle sound of rainfall.
