Summary
It has been three centuries since Ares last set foot on Olympus. He has been busy roaming the European continent, going from skirmish to skirmish looking for a war worthy of his time. After a particularly dull battle, Ares is summoned back to Olympus by his father, only to find the city is not what it once was and that war is coming.
Apollo has been trying to survive in the darkening halls of Olympus, trying to keep his head up and his shoulders straight, even as the abuse from his father grows more painful every day. After overhearing his father's plans to abolish the council, Apollo sets out to prevent the fall of democracy with his sister Athena. But, Zeus has other plans.

Apollo fixed his devastated look on Ares, and maybe it was foolish of the War God to hope, but he did. It was that kind of hope that kept the last man standing in battle. It was that kind of hope that kept a troop surrounded fighting til the last breath. He was a fool for having it, but it was still a part of him.
“I will distract our father,” Ares said. “You take her and run for the entrance. Do not look back.”
