Work Text:
Ah, the school rooftop.
A wondrous place, perfect for eating lunch, flying drones, controlled explosions, and annoying the local discipline community members. Truly a site that Nene's troupe mates could enjoy. (Jury's still out on if Nene herself enjoyed it, though.)
Hoping for none of that nonsense considering her not so fantastic day at school so far, Nene was the first to arrive for the lunch period. Rui and Tsukasa being late was a pretty common occurrence due to the shenanigans they got up to in their class, and Emu basically had to cross a good chunk of the city to get there, only the lord knows how she can make it to the rooftop and back to her own school in time.
Sitting down with her back against the railing, Nene opened her backpack, looked inside, and sighed. She'd completely forgotten to bring her lunch, and while she was sure that Tsukasa would willingly share some of his with her, he was nowhere to be found. She didn't have any options other than to just wait, so she pulled out her phone and started playing some random gacha game that she'd taken an interest in recently. Even Tsukasa, as chronically offline as he was, seemed to get a kick out of it. Maybe that's why she was enjoying it so much?
"Oh my oh my, someone can't even bear the thought of waiting for her dearest friend and one she loves so?"
Nene looked up, spying her purple haired childhood friend standing in the doorway, softly smiling at her.
"What's got you so late this time? Glitter bomb?"
"Oh please, I would never do that one agai-"
"Platypus bots?"
"Ok that had a very good reason-"
"Giant confetti popper?"
"That was for Tsukasa's birthday, and could only be on the roof-"
"A repeat of the Magic 8 Ball incident?"
"No."
"Some new prototype that exploded in the teacher's face?"
"...Yes."
"What am I ever going to do with you..."
Nene shook her head, looking slightly behind Rui.
"I can't help but notice that Tsukasa still isn't with you, though."
"He-"
Rui turned around, slightly surprised and stepping back at the fact that Tsukasa was, indeed, not there.
"Well... he said that he had something else to talk about with the teacher before I left. You can go see what's going on there if you want."
"And you can't because...?"
"I may have ran away in the middle of his lecture while Tsukasa was talking about something off topic."
"Of course you did."
Nene sighed, standing up and walking over towards the door.
You've got some nerve making me do this with an empty stomach...
"Oh! You might need this, as well."
Turning around, Nene eyed the key ring in Rui's hand, a singular key resting in it.
"...Do I even want to know where you got a key to your classroom?"
"Oh no, dear Nene, that's much too small of a goal. What I have here is a master key to every lock in this school. You know, for someone who was meant to watch over me and Tsukasa to make sure we didn't get into any trouble, we sure have a clumsy teacher~"
Nene took the key, meeting Rui's eyes.
"When I get back, I'm making sure you turn this key in to the main office."
"Maybe~"
Knowing she wasn't going to get a better answer than that, Nene stepped farther down the stairs, not noticing that the door behind her took an extra second to close.
Let's see... their room is on this floor, down... here...?
Nene would have checked the room number on the key had it not been the result of Rui's shenanigans, so all she could do was see if she could check through the closed blinds of the window. Sure enough, there was that familiar blonde head of hair, seemingly ducked down for whatever reason. She wasn't going on some wild goose chase, thank goodness. She did idly wonder why he never left the room, though her questions were answered as soon as she unlocked and opened the door.
Tsukasa was clearly asleep, arms down on his desk like a pillow. Must have been a really boring lecture, huh?
Not bothering to close the door behind her, Nene walked over to her sleeping boyfriend, getting a good look at the adorable face he made when peaceful and asleep.
"Tsukasa, darling..."
Lightly shaking his shoulders didn't seem to do anything. Tsukasa was still somehow snug as a bug in a rug, despite the rug being an uncomfortable classroom desk.
Hmm... I think...
Gathering her confidence, Nene lifted up Tsukasa's head ever so slightly as to not disturb him, but so she could still get a better look at him.
"Someone needs their rest, huh? Usually I'm the one in this scenario, but..."
Nene leaned in, giving him a kiss on the cheek before retracting, softly smiling to herself.
"And you'll never know, but..."
"Oh, but he might!"
"WHAT."
Nene turned around faster than she'd ever moved in her life, spying Rui in the doorway with a camera in hand.
"Wh- where did you even come from?!"
"I followed you here. You were so focused on seeing your boyfriend you must have missed me."
"And what's with the camera?"
"Secret~"
Despite that, Nene could probably fill in the blanks of what exactly the camera was for. She never got the opportunity to, though, as she could hear something rustling from behind her.
"Mmgh... too loud... you two..."
Tsukasa sat up, stretching, while looking at a very flustered Nene and Rui, who was flashing his signature Cheshire grin.
"...Do I even want to know?"
"Maybe at the marriage~"
"Sure."
Tsukasa slowly stood up, walking over to lean on Nene for support. Her best idea was to just give him a hug.
"Neneee... you're so warm..."
"Not in front of-"
"Oh no, please continue, please do not let me get in the way of your clingy cat boyfriend clinging to you like a sloth to a tree while mumbling about how warm you are and how much he loves you. It's truly a new sight of Tsukasa that I wish to explore more."
"Stop talking about my boyfriend like he's some kind of experiment!"
Tsukasa didn't respond, only hugging Nene tighter while mumbling something about how much he loved her. It was sweet, for sure, but it also only amplified Rui's teasing power. Nene decided to try and cut him off before he could even speak.
"Let's just move back to the rooftop."
With Tsukasa still clinging onto her, Nene found it surprisingly difficult to actually make it to the rooftop, but she made it there eventually. When she arrived, Rui was already sitting down and finishing the rest of his lunch.
"Someone took a while. Did you perhaps pepper him with more kisses while I was awa-"
"You'd figure out a way to know that."
"True, true..."
Nene sighed, sitting down against the wall and setting Tsukasa on her lap. He didn't seem to appreciate that in his sleepy state, however, moving to hug her instead. Pretending to roll her eyes, Nene accepted the hug and just held him there, lightly giggling.
Snap!
"...Rui."
"Oh my, I'm not doing anything important, don't mind me!"
"I feel like taking pictures of me and my boyfriend warrants questioning."
Rui chuckled, returning the camera to its pouch.
"You'll find out at the wedding~"
"What wedding? We're not planning on going to any soon, are we?"
"No, no, your wedding, of course!"
Nene expected to be upset at that comment, to say something about how Rui was overreacting and that it was never something to expect, but ended up looking at Tsukasa once again. The way he seemed to shine in the sunlight, his adorable face when he was asleep, the way he'll move heaven and earth to make her comfortable despite her sometimes needing things to be a specific way, there was so much about her boyfriend that she just adored, and the thought of actually marrying him some day...
It filled her with so much happiness, she couldn't quite explain it all.
