Work Text:
Martyn grabbed onto one of the many large bags of coffee beans that was about the size of him. Slowly carrying it to the shop's entrance where he was greeted by the store owner, Ren.
“Right on time as always, Martyn. Do you need some help?” The hybrid asked as he opened the door for Martyn. “I should be fine..for the most part.” In reality, he did want help but he didn't want to admit it. That would be hurting his ego after all.
Ren watched Martyn hall the heavy bag across the coffee shop towards the storage room. “Alright.. well I'm helping anyways.” He said softly before walking out of the shop. “Wait! Ren! I told you I was fine!” Martyn yelled from the inside. He quickly opened the storage room and placed the bag of coffee beans down, before running out to catch Ren, who was already holding one of the large bags.
“Let me help you, you already do so much by growing all these beans so let me do something for you.” The hybrid smiled softly, don't get him wrong, it was a sweet gesture but Martyn was determined to show how he could truly do it all alone. “Come on, Ren..you know you can't handle carrying that,”
Martyn reached out to try and take the bag out of Ren’s hands but the hybrid didn't let him. “Martyn! You are gonna rip the bag!”
“No, I'm not!” Martyn kept trying to get the bag but Ren only nudged him away. “Why? Why won't you accept my help!?” That made Martyn stop. The two just looked at each other. The bag of coffee on the ground, right in front of the shop. Looking at Ren, he could only assume he did something wrong. After all, the hybrid’s ears were pinned back.
“I just wanna do this for you.”
“You already do enough for me. Please, Martyn. Let me help,”
Then it was followed by silence. Only interrupted by the noise of the busy street. Ren picked up the bag again and headed inside with it. Leaving Martyn alone outside the coffee shop. He grabbed one of the potted plants he had that he was originally gonna give to stock his own shop next door.
He walked inside, seeing Ren walk out of the storage room. “This is for you..” He said softly as he held out the plant. There wasn't any flowers but it was still lush and green. Perfect for the coffee shop which already had plenty of greenery. “Is this your way of saying sorry?” Ren chuckled as he took it. “If it is then I will accept it. I wasn't mad at you anyways. You just confused me sometimes..most of the time.” Ren corrected himself before going to place the shrub on the front counter.
“Will you let me help you now?” The hybrid asked looking back at Martyn. “You may. I would actually love if you could.”
“Wonderful! Now Martyn, you are gonna sit right here and take a break.”
“I said you could help me not take over my job!”
Ren only laughed, exiting the coffee shop as Martyn tried running after him. “Ren!” The man cried out as he pushed the door open. Pausing as Ren grabbed the second to last bag. “Didn't I say for you to have a break?”
“You may have been able to convince me but you won't be able to stop me from doing my job!” Martyn walked forward, taking the final bag out of the truck. Ren only sighed as he halled the bag towards the door. “You are so stubborn,”
“What do you expect from me? For me just to listen? Ha! Who do you think I am?” Martyn smiled, the two now walked beside each other as they walked closer to the storage room. He pushed open the storage door and lowered his head into the bag. Taking in the strong scent of coffee “After you, m’lord.”
“Aw being formal now? Aren't you adorable..” Ren let out a chuckle before walking into the room to set down the bag. “Only this once! Don't get used to it,” Martyn added as he walked further into the room to set the bag down.
“Are you finished now, mi hand?” Ren smiled, his hand on his hip. “I am, m’lord. Do you need me for something else?” Martyn decided to just play into this little roleplay. They were both dramatic and theatre kids so why not? “I do..but will you do it without being stubborn?”
He thought about it for a second before nodding. “I’ll gladly take your order, m’lord.”
“Great! Now come along, Martyn.” Ren smiled, he grabbed Martyn's hand and dragged him out of the storage room and into the main coffee shop area. “May I ask what you need?”
“Just sit right there, mi hand.” Martyn looked over and sat at the chair Ren pointed out. Meanwhile the hybrid went behind the counter and started up the coffee machine. Eventually jumping over the counter to get some of the new coffee beans from the storage room.
Once Ren came back, he hopped over the counter again then started making a new batch of coffee. “Watcha doing, m’lord?”
“You get to find out! It's your little surprise. You have done so much and I believe I should give you a little gift.” Ren smiled as he looked back at Martyn. He could see the hybrid's tail softly wagging. Ren went back to handling the machine and eventually, the coffee was brewed.
He grabbed two cups and poured a bit of the freshly brewed coffee into them. Ren left them alone to go get a bit of cream so he could do a little bit of art on the two cups. Also just to let the coffee cool down.
Martyn just watched as Ren ran around behind the counter. He could tell the hybrid was trying to do something special. To be fair, Ren always did this. Trying to one up himself everytime he did this. He was dedicated to this one little craft and Martyn would say Ren perfected it but he wouldn’t agree.
The two of them were just that stubborn. Eventually Ren turned around, he was smiling. Even his ears perked up and his tail wagging. “Here you go, love. Just something to get your energy back up,”
“Thank you,” Martyn said softly as he took the cup. Feeling the warmth of the coffee through the cup. Then he realized the little design Ren put in the coffee. It was a small little design of his own face with a few hearts. He took a small sip of the coffee, it slightly burned his tongue but it tasted sweet.
“So? How is it?” Ren asked, still beeming with excitement. “Too hot for me but sweet enough for me.” Martyn smiled as he looked up. Turns out Ren was right infront of him.”Jeez you're close..”
“Sorry..didn't mean to,” Ren leaned away and put his hands behind his back. “It's fine,” Martyn set down his cup and hugged Ren, who flinched back but eventually gave into it. “I love you~”
“I love you too.” Ren smiled as he nuzzled a little bit. His tail was happily wagging and was starting to speed up. Eventually Martyn reached up to make Ren look at him before pulling the hybrid into a kiss. Welcome to the coffee shop where you can find two gay men kissing. <3
