Work Text:
It was a clear night, the air crisp from the fall weather yet warm enough to stay outside, to simply enjoy oneself and sit around a campfire.
The marshmallows were ready for the toasting as was the telescope setup for stargazing. As promised by the holo report of the planet, a meteor shower from a passing comet with gorgeous views across the night skies would be forthcoming. All and all perfect timing on the desolate planet which housed Rex’s new and improved rebel base for a family outing.
They were finally all together again. Which was as Echo had put it, more important than any meteor shower. Alas, this was family time and so all of them having made sure to participate. Crosshair, Echo, Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, Omega and Batcher. The whole team, the whole family in the camp they had setup for their stay. But also the Marauder there. Their ship, their home having been rebuilt basically from scratch now tucked away close by.
“So, when do we get to toast the marshmallows?”
Wrecker was being eager enough to have a taste of this delicacy none of them had heard of before. Something introduced to the Batch by an ally from some distant world now working together with the rebel clones. The clone rebel cause having formed several alliances with smaller rebel groups across the galaxy. The civil war against the Empire having officially begun in a way, right after Mount Tantiss was obliterated.
“Go ahead. We still have some time before the meteors are passing by. They should be visible for the naked eye.”
Tech informed him, not wanting to miss the event while eating, but there was still time for snacks.
Wrecker motioned for Omega, the two picking up the bags filled with the sugary treats and starting to stick them onto to the wooden sticks already prepared for this particular task. The roasting for the marshmallows.
“Holo recorder all setup Tech?”
Hunter knowing all too well Tech was eager enough to capture this once in a while event as Tech’s former hobbies slowly but surely having returned to play after Tech having healed enough from his ordeal with the Empire. CX-2 almost gone but not quite forgotten.
“Yes. I have put it on timer just in case… I forget.”
As sometimes, Tech did forget. The side effect of the deprogramming, which Doctors Se and Karr had assured them all would pass, eventually. A touchy subject for the genius if any, having always had a keen and alert mind.
“I’m sure you won’t.” Hunter smiled at him. “And if you do, Wrecker and Omega will remind you.”
The two having been just as eager as Tech was to capture the event, while Hunter, Crosshair and Echo were simply enjoyed the togetherness of them all.
Tech only nodded. Adjusting to his new way of being filled with uncertainties was certainly, well, new. And the others did not seem to mind any of his shortcomings even Tech did. Still, he too was getting used to things the way they were now.
“Come on, let’s go get Cross.”
The sniper having gone for a walk with Batcher. Totally enjoying the silence of nature around him like the rest of them did. But the open vistas were a welcoming change for Crosshair having spent a long time on Tantiss in a small and cramped cell.

They were all gathered around the campfire, the s’mores having been roasted and equally distributed amongst the team. And there were certainly plenty of them, Wrecker having made sure they would not fall short. They also had a special brew for the adults and juice for Omega.
“A toast.”
Oddly it was Crosshair having raised his mug after the brew had been passed around.
“It’s a tradition right.”
Seeing the surprised stares aimed at Crosshair had to clarify. It really was tradition true to the point. But also a small celebration for them all. The family together again.
“Indeed, Cross.” Hunter chuckled.
“Any suggestions?” Echo asked.
There were a few murmurs around the fire but then it was Tech who came up with an idea.
“How about, our future?”
“Sounds good to me.”
They all raised their mugs in the air and in chorus made the toast.
“To the future! Of us and all the clones!”
Just then, a most brightly lit flash of light crossed the darkened skies.
“Look! A shooting star!” Omega exclaimed, having learnt all about astronomy from Tech.
“Quick, everyone! Make a wish!”
Wrecker might have had his fondness for superstition, but none of the others objected. A quiet moment passing between them as each one of them sent a silent wish to the Force.
Soon after the toasting and stargazing, the chatter picked up again quickly followed by anecdotes and old memories shared with a lot of laughter in the mix.
It had been a while when the holo recorder finally beeped.
“Everyone! I believe our show is about to start!”
Quickly positioning themselves, their eyes towards the skies as with the show provided by the Force itself had just about to start. A most glorious display if anything filling the high skies. Them all sharing it, together, as a family.
