Work Text:

Kirishima was used to staying up till midnight. He did it without thinking most days. He would get distracted by a TV show, video game,  or a manga he was reading, before he knew it, it was midnight, or well past it. It wasn’t a problem for him.

It became a problem when Bakugou came over to hang out. They would watch a movie or play a game together most of the time. Sometimes they would each do their own thing, enjoying each other’s silent company. Those were the days that Kirishima kept finding Bakugou fast asleep on his bed as midnight drew near. He was usually lying on top of the covers, his body folded in a way that looked uncomfortable.

Kirishima would try to wake him, only to get small half-asleep grumbles from his best friend. That was enough for Kirishima to let him stay the night. He would adjust Bakugou slightly to make sure he was comfortable before pulling a blanket over him.

Kirishima used to sleep on the floor when this happened, but lately, he has been finding himself climbing into his bed alongside Bakugou. He would leave space between them, but he knew that by the time morning came they would be wrapped around each other. He also got to watch Bakugou’s sleeping face until he fell asleep. There was no downside to this for him… except maybe one.

They never talked about it.

No matter how many times Kirishima woke up to Bakugou’s face inches, sometimes closer, to his own. The amount of times Bakugou would wake him up and tell him they were going to be late if they didn’t hurry. Neither of them brought it up, but it became more common, to the point that Bakugou slept over most of the week. It even felt weird to sleep without the blond next to him.

He wasn’t sure why he brought it up that day. Maybe because he turned and saw Bakugou start to nod off, or maybe because curiosity got the better of him. All he knew was that he opened his big ass mouth. “Hey, why do you sleep over so much? Wouldn’t you rather sleep on your own bed?” he asked.

Bakugou’s head snapped up, he looked at Kirishima with analytical eyes. “Fine,” he said, getting up from the bed and walking out of the room, slamming the door on his way out. Kirishima couldn’t help but feel as if he had committed the worst mistake. He heard Bakugou’s door slam shut a few seconds later.

The next morning, Bakugou wasn’t waiting for Kirishima outside his door for them to walk to class together. Kirishima felt his heart sink like a rock, and the feeling only worsened when Bakugou didn’t even look his way the whole day. He had tried to talk to Bakugou, but it had only resulted in him walking away or pretending to need to talk to someone else. He even talked to Midoriya, MIDORIYA, to keep from talking to him.

Kirishima was close to tears by the end of the day. He didn’t know how to fix it, but he would find a way if it was the last thing he did. He needed to catch Bakugou before he went into his room, and the only way to do that was to leave his own door open and wait by it. It felt like an eternity had gone by when he heard Bakugou’s heavy steps making their way to his room. Kirishima readies himself, holding his breath. Once he spotted Bakugou at the corner of his eye, he grabbed him by the arm and pulled him into his room.

“What the fuck!” Bakugou exclaimed. He let out an explosion against Kirishima’s head, but he had hardened in time. That only gave Kirishima an idea.

He wrapped his arms around Bakugou’s waist and hardened them, making sure he couldn’t push him away. “We need to talk,” Kirishima told him as Bakugou struggled against him.

“Why? You made it clear you wanted nothing to do with me last night,” Bakugou huffed, he had stopped moving but was glaring at Kirishima with a pout.

“When did I say that?” Kirishima asked, the annoyance was clear in his tone. “All I asked was why you stayed over so often. That doesn’t mean I don’t want you to!”

Bakugou’s expressions soften, for a fraction of a second, before returning to a glare. “How the fuck was I supposed to take it?”

“Maybe if you had talked to me instead of storming off and ignoring me the whole day I wouldn’t have to do this!”

“Let go of me, you fuck!”

“No, because you are going to run off and start ignoring me again.”

Bakugou pouted in annoyance, and Kirishima took it as confirmation.

“Look, I like having you spend time here… it’s just… I need to know. Are you okay with us sleeping on the same bed? It doesn’t make you uncomfortable?”

“Does it make you uncomfortable?” Bakugou asked, his voice lower than usual.

“No, but I don’t want to make you uncomfortable,” Kirishima explained.

Bakugou looked at him like he was insane. “Shouldn’t you have asked me this since the first time it happened?”

“Well… yeah,” Kirishima admitted, he could feel a blush creeping onto his face. “You never brought it up, so I thought you would rather not talk about it.”

Bakugou blinked once, twice. “You idiot.”

“Hey!” Kirishima huffed at the insult.

“I don’t do things I don’t fucking want to do,” Bakugou told him and waited for Kirishima to understand what he was saying.

“So… you’re okay with… us?” Kirishima asked because he needed to be sure.

Bakugou let out an annoyed sigh. “You fucking dumbass,” he mumbled, but before Kirishima could complain, Bakugou leaned in.

Suddenly, they were kissing. Bakugou kissed him so forcefully at first, only for it to suddenly turn soft and sweet. Kirishima found himself melting into the kiss, he stopped his hardening in favor of holding Bakugou closer and cupping his face. It was electric. He wondered why they hadn’t done this before.

Bakugou pulled away, a shit-eating grin on his face. “Do you get it now ?”

Kirishima nodded, still dazed by the kiss. “Can we… do that again?” he asked and Bakugou chuckled before leaning in again.

They stayed in Kirishima’s room the rest of the day. They talked between kisses about what they were now. Bakugou had thought he had been obvious since the start, and Kirishima had wanted to not overstep boundaries, but everything was now where it was supposed to be.

When they finally climbed into bed together for the night, Bakugou wrapped himself around Kirishima without hesitation. Kirishima pulled away only to kiss his boyfriend goodnight as he wondered how he would ever be able to sleep alone again.
