Wrong assumption

Summary:

Kazami suspects Furuya has a girlfriend.

He finds Kudou Shinichi instead.

Work Text:

"I'll walk Haro, it's not a problem," insisted Kazami when Furuya told him he'd be gone for two weeks. For one, Kazami loved Haro, he was the sweetest, most adorable boy ever, and he deserved all the pets. Kazami, of course, was more than willing to give them to him.

As for the other reason, being in Furuya's living quarters while the man wasn't present would allow him to confirm his suspicions. For a while now, Kazami suspected that Furuya was dating. The first clue was when Furuya started sleeping more. He went from an average of 2-4 hours a night to an average of 6 hours per night. How he managed to do that and keep up with all his work was beyond his knowledge, but he had a theory - getting more sleep meant less time for work, but the work he did became more efficient. How it was humanely possible to become even more efficient, he didn't know - Furuya has always had peak performance. Kazami could die if he had a fraction of the competence his boss had, but as it was, Kazami was just happy that his boss was taking better care of himself and his health.

The second clue was that he started wearing a particular perfume. Furuya always smelled nice and pleasant, but this particular perfume didn't seem akin to all the ones he wore before. Furuya usually wore mild scents, though whether that was a genuine preference or a habit due to his job was uncertain. But mild and inoffensive smells were easier to camouflage and made it easier to blend in, go unnoticed. It is extremely important when going undercover. This perfume, however, wasn't that. It was rather strong as far as Japanese perfumes went, as though Furuya didn't buy it himself, but wore it because it was gifted to him by a woman who liked that perfume instead. He could imagine a woman picking up a perfume for her boyfriend because she liked the smell and wanted to smell it on him.

The third clue was that he was unusually chipper. Furuya being in a good mood when not pretending to be Amuro was rare. After months of that continuous good mood, Kazami's suspicions were at an all time high.

The fourth and most damning clue Kazami had was that the last time he was in his home, he found a shirt that was certainly too small for his boss and a book, a fictional book unrelated to their job, with handwriting indicating that it wasn't Furuya's. While he couldn't understand what was written, because he didn't speak a lick of Portuguese, he was certain that it wasn't written by Furuya himself - the possibility of him buying a book and then writing on it with a cutesy heart attached to said writing was zero. Less than zero, even.

Therefore, Kazami wanted to confirm for himself that Furuya had a secret girlfriend and was hiding it from everyone. Now, who that secret girlfriend could be, he didn't know. It was someone who was proficient in Furuya's native language, though.

When Saturday morning came, Kazami was on a mission. First, feed Haru. Second, walk Haru. Third, find proof of Furuya's girlfriend. He had high stakes in this! The betting pool was running, and he'd be able to buy himself a nice new washing machine if he won that.

But when the key clicks in the door and he opens it, the first thing he sees is a man on the couch, cuddling with Haro. The man immediately becomes alert, but a second later, before Kazami can even process the situation, the man's face goes mild, and he greets him with a smile, "You must be Kazami."

Kazami just nodded, his mind going off the rails when the realization of KUDOU FUCKING SHINICHI hit him.

He doesn't know what to say, caught completely off guard by seeing the best detective of the entire generation cuddling up with Haro on that small couch, wearing Furuya's favorite T-shirt. His brain short-circuits.

What comes out, when he comes to his senses is, "A- Are you - Furuya's secret girlfriend?" He stammers.

The man sitting in front of him looks confused, "I am neither a secret nor a girl."

"But you are dating him?"

"You could say so," he said affirmatively.

Something turned in Kazami's head. Furyq was dating Kudou Shinichi, the very man who brought down the Black Organization. Kudou Shinichi, who was regarded as one of the best detectives in the world, Kudou Shinichi, the son of THE Yusaku and Yukiko Kudou.

Furuya was not dating a beautiful woman like he was betting on, like he imagined, but a great beauty regardless.

Kazami wanted to scream.

It was simply unfair. Furuya already got all the pretty women, and now even the pretty men are his? Unfair, simply unfair.

And not only was it a pretty man, it was THE Kudou Shinichi. How the hell did he manage to snag him of all people!

With that pretty face of Furuya's he was bound to charm everyone. Pretty face, an amazing well-trained body, great intelligence, cooking skills, guitar playing... Furuya was a magnet for women! And men, apparently.

Though, that didn't surprise him much. There were whispers going around the workplaces of at least several men falling in love or having crushes on Furuya.

But it wasn't fair. It was as though the entire universe decided, 'Hey, see this man? Let's make him gorgeous, physically flawless, and tall, and let's make him excellent at everything! The rest of you? You can go fuck yourself! Especially Kazami.'

Even the prospect of a brand new washing machine couldn't cheer him up. When he tells the news, everyone is going to be disappointed. Or jealous. Because, um, Kudou and Furuya were dating, and they made an attractive, and frankly terrifying, couple.

"Um, is there anything you need?" Asked the detective as he looked at him uncertainly. With one hand, he petted Haro, who was still asleep.

Oh fuck, he had been staring as though hit over his head for way too long. "Ugh, excuse me." He blushed. "I'm here to feed Haro." He held up the bag of food he brought to demonstrate his point.

"Ah, thank you for bringing it over," Shinichi said politely, "Do you mind putting it in his bowl? I don't want to wake him up by moving."

"Ah, yes, yes, no problem." Kazami did as he was told, trying not to wonder just how far along their relationship was. Knowing his real identity, being in his home without Furuya present, evidently clad in his clothes...
