Work Text:
To say it was a hot day would be a horrendous understatement. It was absolutely scalding. Yuu reclined further in his chair, attempting to get comfortable while hiding from the scorching July sun. This would’ve been an easier task if the person next to him would’ve angled the umbrella at a more appropriate angle.
Shinoa ignored the glare Yuu sent her way and feigned innocence, however, it was impossible to miss the amusement in her eyes. Seriously, none of this would be happening if he’d declined her offer and stayed at home. Hell, it was too hot to even move.
Yoichi and Kimizuki had left about fifteen minutes ago to go get snacks, and judging by their spot in the sizable line, they hadn’t made much progress. Great. More boring, awkward time in the absolutely horrid sun with the equally horrid Shinoa.
Honestly.
"Yuu-san you don't look so good," Shinoa said, voice dripping with sarcasm. Yuu gave her her the best glare he could muster, causing her to raise her hands defensively. "Whoa there! It's a shame Mit-chan couldn't join us. She's way more fun than you." Yuu's scowl deepened, while Shinoa waved at Mitsuba, who happened to have a summer job at the pool as a lifeguard. The blonde haphazardly waved back, obviously as exhausted from the heat as Yuu was. At least she had an umbrella.
"Do we have to come here everyday for moral support?!," Yuu seethed. Shinoa's smile only widened.
"Oh ho ho, Yuu-san. If I remember correctly you did the same thing last year when you worked retail." Yuu raised a hand to protest, but lowered his head in defeat when he couldn't think of a decent reply.
"Ah! It looks like Mit-chan's shift is finally over!" Shinoa said, standing. Mitsuba lightly jogged to where the two were sitting.
"Gimme a sec," she said, voice audibly tired. "I've gotta get the new guy. Once he takes over I'm good." Shinoa gave a brief pout, but nodded.
"New guy? And just when I thought I had blackmail on the entire pool staff..." Shinoa grunted. Yuu threw a towel over his head, attempting to shield himself from the sun's rays. "Come on Yuu-san, this means we can leave." Yuu, suddenly full of energy threw the towel off of him and sat up.
And in that very moment, Yuu swore his life had become an overly hyped romance movie.
A guy he had never seen before walked past where he and Shinoa were seated, followed closely by Mitsuba. He had light blond hair and a lean physique. From what Yuu could tell from a single glance, he also had a toned chest, which lightly covered in sweat.
Wait, that's the new guy?!
Hot damn.
Mitsuba directed the guy to the lifeguard chair a few feet away and talked to him for a few minutes before heading back to Shinoa and Yuu.
"Mitsuba, who is that?!" Yuu almost yelled. Mitsuba looked confused for a minute.
"Oh, you mean Mika? He's the new guy."
Holy
Shit.
Shinoa, who had caught on at this point, leaned toward Yuu and loudly said "Oh, Yuu-san! Could it be that you fancy the new-“ but before she could finish, Yuu screamed and lunged toward her, yelling "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA very funny Shinoa! Stop joking around!"
This commotion caused the new guy, Mika, to glance over at the group, where Yuu currently held Shinoa and a choke hold and Mitsuba facepalmed. Yuu awkwardly smiled, which Mika just as awkwardly returned before turning away.
Damn he has pretty eyes too.
And he just looked super stupid in front of him.
Fuck.
He had to fix this.
Yuu stood up, suddenly full of determination. Shinoa gave him a nervous look.
"Yuu-san, may I ask what you're about to do?" Yuu gave her a confident smile.
“Only the most jaw dropping, awe inducing stunt you’ve ever seen!” Yuu yelled as he took off across the pool deck.
“No running!” yelled the new lifequard.
Yuu briskly walked the rest of the way to the diving board.
He quickly scaled the latter and gracefully pulled of his shirt, which he tossed behind him, hitting Shinoa directly in the face.
“Yuu-san!” Shinoa yelled from below, tossing Yuu’s shirt into the bushes. “Don’t you remember what happened the last time?!”
“Shinoa that was two years ago!” Yuu yelled. "I promise I’m gonna look super rad!”
Shinoa facepalmed, but made sure to pull out her phone to videotape. Due to his yelling, Yuu now not only had the attention of Mika, but of the majority of the pool’s guests. He stood at the top of the board for a minute, trying to add dramatism. He then flashed Mika a grin before leaping off the board and executing a perfect swan dive.
Or at least that’s what he intended to do.
Instead, the waistband of his trunks caught on the edge of the diving board, causing him to not only smack himself in the face on the side of the diving board, but to lose his trunks all together on the way down.
Yuu entered the water with an ungraceful splash.
Holy shit.
That’s embarrassing.
I want to die.
Yuu let himself sink to the bottom of the pool. He wasn’t ready to face the hot new lifeguard yet. Not after that epic failure. Hell, he wasn't even wearing pants right now. How was he supposed to laugh off the fact that he just lost his shorts in front of the entire guest population of the pool? His face still hurt and everything.
He distantly heard a splash not to far from him before a pair of warm arms wrapped around his torso.
The next thing he knew, Yuu was thrown onto the pool deck, which was concrete by the way, and roughly hit in the chest. Through half-lidded eyes, Yuu made out the figure of the new lifeguard hovering over him before putting his head against his chest.
Holy shit he thinks I drowned or something.
This can't get worse.
I mean, I'm already naked.
Wait a sec.
Mika hit him the the chest a few more times before listening for a heartbeat. He then leaned over Yuu and pressed their lips together. Of course, it was awkward because he was breathing into Yuu, who was still pretending to be dead or whatever, but a kiss was still a kiss. At least in Yuu’s book. He might as well get something out of this horrid turn of events.
Yuu let out a weak and obviously fake cough and he saw Mika's face light up.
"Oh thank god!" He said. "Are you alright?" Holy shit he has a nice smile.
"Y-yeah," Yuu sputtered, covering his face with his hands in attempt to cover the oncoming blush. He and Mika stared at each other for a few minutes before Shinoa wolf whistled from somewhere in the crowd. It was this that reminded Yuu that he was pinned naked under a very attractive man, causing him to scream and for Mika to literally fly off of him.
"C-can you get me a towel? Y'know...to uh-"
"Y-yeah! Sure!" Mika yelled just as awkwardly before he sprinted across the pool deck.
Yuu hid his face in his hands once more and he could’ve sworn he heard Shinoa mutter “No running,” under her breath.
Yuu awkwardly covered his privates as he watched Mika’s retreating form. He had a nice stride. Shinoa would swear later on that she could see the softest smile on his face, and a very noticeable blush dusting his cheeks. Yuu would deny it, but the same blush would return.
Mika returned with the towel and Yuu thanked him. Both smiled at each other, not sure how to start conversation, but not wanting to leave the other’s company.
“So, I guess I’ll see you around,” Mika finally said, running a hand through his now damp hair. What a sight that was. Yuu blushed, but returned the grin.
“Yeah, see ya,”
It was safe to say that Yuu no longer complained about going to the pool whenever Shinoa asked him.
