Should've Knocked, My Bad

Summary:

Ichie walks into the dressing room while Fumi was trying to get ready in private and discovers something

Work Text:

Fumi had always been one to try and change alone. Even when it wasn't necessarily easy to do. She would often wait and only start changing when everyone else had already left the changing room if there was nowhere private to go.

It was something everyone just had to accept. Fumi obviously had no plans on changing her habits. No one really batted much of an eye at it anymore.

But, one thing Fumi failed to consider was it becoming too normalized. It was so common that at this point no one even had a second thought about it. Which meant an accident was bound to happen eventually. Especially since no one knew exactly why she preferred to change alone.

Ichie had barged her way back into the changing room, startling Fumi, who was just halfway done putting on her costume for the play. Ichie went to speak, probably to explain why she had returns, but then paused at the sight.

Fumi was frozen, unable to move as much as she wanted to. This was not the way she had expected to get outed to anyone. And of course it had to be Ichie that was the first. Fumi had no idea what to do in this situation.

"Uh... my bad." Ichie mumbled, averting her gaze from Fumi and going to her pile of stuff.

Fumi managed to unfreeze herself and get the top half of her costume fully on her. There was a very awkward silence that had filled the room. Fumi spared a small look over at Ichie. Ichie looked like she wanted to say something, but didn't know how.

Fumi tried to ignore her and finished up getting dressed. All that was left was her shoes.

"Um... so..." Ichie finally spoke. "You... are trans?"

"What else am I going to fucking be?" Fumi shot back, angrier than she had intended. The situation was making her a bit more short tempered than usual.

"Sorry..."

Fumi sighed. "I... I know I should've said something about why I don't want to change in front of you guys... it's my fault."

"But, you shouldn't have to tell anyone if you don't want to." Ichie protested. "I totally forgot you were still in here."

"It's... it's fine."

"I uh, I think it's cool that you get to be yourself."

Fumi eyed her up.

"Well... I promise I won't tell anyone. And... and uh, I will make sure to knock before entering next time." Ichie continued on.

Fumi let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding. That was a bit better conglomeration of words than she had been expecting to hear.

"You better." Fumi stated, her tone not that harsh. "Come on. They'll be wondering what happened to us if we don't get back soon."

Ichie nodded, a smile appearing on her face. "Okay!"

The two headed out of the dressing room and toward the backstage where everyone else was gathering. True to her word, Ichie said nothing about what had occurred. If anyone asked why they came back together, she simply said Fumi had waited for her to make sure she didn't take too long.
