Flaming Juniper

Summary:

[MIGHT REWRITE since my writing was worse back then, everything is so ...short *shudder*]

An AU I made of Phoenix and Juniper where it's a what-if scenario of if they had met before the events of the second game [we're starting at the end of Rising Phoenix though, the plot will unfold from there]

Notes:

this is my very first time posting a fan fic so bear with me here

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Rising Phoenix

Chapter Text

The elevator finally raised slowly to the 32nd floor towards the summit where Juniper was giving his speech. Phoenix was feeling many things: fear, pain, sadness, and anticipation but she had to snuff it all out right now to prepare to face Juniper.

She reaches the top and faces Juniper as he continues his speech to the world. She flinches as the elevator dings, alerting Juniper to her presence.

"What!? You're supposed to be trapped!"

Phoenix ignores him and rushes out of the elevator, only stopping when a bullet barely misses her feet. They look up and see Juniper with his gun unholstered.

"I don't think so, Agent"

Juniper snaps all sassy-like. Phoenix looks around for anything and notices a power box that leads to the catwalk. Before Juniper can react, Phoenix opens the box and pulls the lever. The catwalk splits under Juniper's feet, tripping him up. He tries to move to one side of the catwalk but trips and ends up dangling off the catwalk's edge.

"H-hold on now agent-"

"Shut up."

Phoenix says impatiently as they walk up to the catwalk where Juniper hangs, ripping the mimic mask off his face with her telekinesis. She tosses the mask down the missile silo and pulls Juniper up. She grabs the nuclear briefcase with her telekinesis and shoves it into Juniper’s hands.

"Disable it." She orders.

"Or what?" Juniper presses with a scoff

"Or I'll push you into the silo and disable it myself."

The phoenix says without missing a beat. Juniper gulps nervously and opens the briefcase not wanting to find out whether she’s serious or not

As Juniper finishes the last puzzle to stop the launch, a small compartment opens in the briefcase to reveal two places for alligator clips as the briefcase states "LOW POWER". Phoenix immediately thinks of the generator in the elevator and runs to it.

"Wait! Phoenix!"

Juniper yells. Phoenix turns to Juniper in a frustrated manner.

"If you plan to siphon power away from the elevator, think again. I'm disabling the launch system, which is gonna cause a whole lotta problems if we don't have an elevator to escape them.

"What are you saying?" Phoenix asks, half annoyed, half curious.

"I'm saying, I want to *Live*." Juniper pleads. He looks up at her, with a look Phoenix can't help but pity.

Phoenix thinks for a second and grabs Juniper by his tie with her telekinesis, dragging him to the elevator.

“Wha-? Phoenix!”

Juniper squeals as he trips and stumbles over himself as he’s dragged to the elevator by his tie. Phoenix hooks up the generator to the briefcase.

“You ready?”

“Hell no, this is suicide, we’re going to fall 32 FLOORS-”

Phoenix punches the abort button before Juniper can finish his sentence. Before the elevator falls, a familiar voice fills Phoenix and Juniper’s ears. Zor was speaking.

“Saving the life of someone who attempted to end your life multiple times? Interesting choice… if you survive this I’ll be in touch…”

Phoenix wasn’t quite sure whether Zor was talking to Juniper or herself, but she didn’t get long to think about it before an explosion and the rapid descent of the elevator interrupted. “The missile blew up successfully, but took the elevator out with it…” She looked at Juniper who was Visibly upset “...and *this* is the last person I'll see before I die…Great.” Those were her last thoughts before the elevator made friends with the earth below.
