The leaves are too loud , Diana thought as she made her way through the wooded path. Her heart beat so hard and fast it was almost painful. The leaves are too loud, Diana thought. Surely, they’ll find me.
She couldn’t find the right pace. If she walked any faster she’d surely only make even more noise and raise more suspicion but walking slower would only make it easier for someone to catch up to her and wonder what she was doing out at an hour when she should be home.
“Diana!”
Her breath caught in her throat, and she couldn't move. I should run, she thought. I should just run. But she couldn’t get her feet to move.
“Diana, what are you doing?”
She suddenly felt a hand on her shoulder and she turned with a gasp, sure she was done for.
But it was Jerry. It was only Jerry.
