Work Text:

Zuko was long gone. You know it in the way you no longer see the shine in his eyes. "You're making the wrong choice." You reason with him as you glance to Katara, making sure she was safe. His eyes form a glare and you now understand you couldn't get him back anymore.

"No. You are. You have the chance to side with me–us, _____." He hopefully says, anticipating for you to join him and his sister. "I would never." You spit out, finally sighing out the guilty gut feeling you were holding on to while travelling the world with Zuko. Now you were done with him, done with his obsessed antics about his honor, and the Avatar. You prepare your fighting stance, "Where was the Zuko I knew when we were still kids?" You ask, now hoping for him to realize what he was doing, what he was deciding to do with the future of his life.

"You lost me too long ago." Your heart finally shatters and your ears drummed the beat of agony coming from your chest. His sister laughs in mockery. She punches a flame towards you and you barely avoid it, stumbling on the ground from the sudden movement.

You couldn't stop your eyes to burst a river from the revelation. Your mind running through what-ifs and thoughts about the time you shared with him since his banishment. Katara whips Azula off as she tries to snap you back to reality but all your focus was on Zuko.

And you swore you saw the way his face contorted into guilt, saw how he momentarily became himself but painted an angry expression instead. You couldn't move, you felt like giving yourself up. Katara takes notice of this and bends her way to help you but you nod her off when Aang gets struck by lightning in his avatar state. She cries and the pieces of your heart suffered more in your chest at the sight. She escapes narrowly as Iroh stoops down from the top, you both fail to overpower them. They hold you as prisoners and you wish you could die right then, and now.

"Do you feel any remorse?" You whisper, not really wanting an answer from the boy you embarrasingly loved for a long time, and give the satisfaction to Azula. Because you already know what it is and your head aches from the stinging truth.

He glances your way, his head low, "No. Especially for you? None."
