My Defences are Down

Summary:

The confrontation scene between Yennefer and Tissaia,
Tissaia putting more effort into convincing Yennefer to just tell the Brotherhood she lost her magic and offering Yennefer protection because why didn't Tissaia offer Yennefer assurances?

I've been listening to a lot of Beth Crowley and a lot of her songs really suit Yennefer and Tissaia.
I wanted to do a fic based on the song 'Please take me' [nope not meant to be sexy] not sure if the story matches the song though.

We know all of each other's moves
In this twisted dance we do
But we stubbornly refuse
To admit what this might be.

"What do I do if you're no good for me But I might be good for you Why do I crave your love so desperately When I don't even want to?
My defenses are down I've lost all resistance"

Chapter 1: We know all of each other's moves, In this twisted dance we do

Chapter Text

Tissaia didn’t want to play this game anymore, she never wanted to play in the first place and despite all the years that had passed: she still did not know how it came to be this way.

It was as much a dance as it was a game, with a very reluctant partner but a magnetic pull that could not be denied.      Her relationship with Yennefer had not always been so volatile and combustive, they were once something completely different to what they were now.

It seemed life was intent on this confusing twist of being drawn together, yet held apart.

Each time the cycle seemed like it may break for a better future something would occur to change the course from peace to turmoil.

Yennefer’s return to Aretuza  after the horrors of Sodden and her miraculous survival when Tissaia was losing hope, should have been a new beginning, a blessing from above.

Yet here they were once again on the precipice of life with yet another gorge threatening to erupt and separate them to different sides.

Yet again a declaration from Stregobor stood to put Tissaia and Yennefer on opposite sides  just as it did before. When Stregobor announced the truth of Yennefer’s blood and set the Brotherhood against her,    now he has done so again  with news gained from Yennefer’s mind of consorting with Elves.

To prove her innocence and that she is not a spy  Yennefer would be required to kill the Nilfgaardian prisoner.      It was not in Yennefer’s nature to kill in cold blood, she was no executioner.    A kill in the heat of the battle or in self defence was one thing, but what the Brotherhood asked  was something else entirely

Tissaia was aware she was not entirely in control of her chaos as  it reacted to her emotions.

Emotions Tissaia could not display for herself, her chaos had taken the liberty of exposing her.

The roar of thunder cried out it’s pain and anguish, unleashing it’s anger for all to hear.      Lightning struck out with blinding intensity and energy.

The darkened sky wept and sobbed bitter tears in an endless downpour.

She watched with an aching heart as Yennefer paced back and forth as  Tissaia announced the decision of the Brotherhood that Yennefer must be the one to execute the prisoner.

“If I did that I would be gift wrapping yet another reason for Stregobor to vilify me!” Yennefer cried in despair and it tore at Tissaia so deeply. She didn’t want this, didn’t want things to be this way and history repeating it’s self.

“They know of what I did at Sodden the lives I took. They know I used forbidden magic,  I wonder if you even bothered to tell them YOU were the one who ordered it of me.     Forget the bottle you said. Let my chaos explode.       I did what you told me and I am the villain for it.

They will be looking for any reason to see me as unstable. That fire magic has corrupted me.      Stregobor wants me to kill in cold blood to prove a point.       And once again You are just going to let it happen!”     Yennefer roared  “I should never have come back here.  I should have stayed gone, stayed dead.  I was a fool to ever come back here”
