Work Text:
Ah! Finally, summer had come, and Mobei-Jun finally wielded to Shang Qinghua’s nagging, begging, and sobbing to find a place to live permanently. Although the house looked much more like a large run-down shack, Shang Qinghua was sure the place could be fixed if he put in some work on it.
Mobei-Jun had been busy doing quite a lot of work for Luo Binghe so he was out for the day. Shang Qinghua had a burst of energy and decided to work on painting the shack-like house. He went out to buy paint, he had been graciously granted money by his husband so he took it to the town and went to a roadside shop to buy white paint, by the time he arrived back home it had been an hour. It would only be around two hours until Mobei-Jun arrived back home, exhausted as had been every day this week.
Shang Qinghua looked up at the sky, covering his eyes with his hand to shade it from the sun, it was quite bright and quite hot. But doing half of the house shouldn’t take too long. He set down the tin of paint dipped a very large brush in the viscous pain and pushed the brush onto the wood, the wood was very good. No splinters and it wasn’t old or decaying. He began spreading the paint, the white covering the other fading brown the house was originally painted. The white color would need to dry before he would put another coat on it. But while he pained he swatted away bugs that attacked his skin.
Shang Qinghua finally put down the brush, he did about 75% of the house and would continue it tomorrow, but he felt that he should probably continue, there was a lot of time before Mobei-jun was to arrive so he picked up the paintbrush once again, the bristles had already started fraying from his harsh use, but he continued until the whole house was covered with its first coat of paint. He wiped his brow which had collected beads of sweat and he stretched, he looked at the lawn and sighed. The lawn had yet to be cut.
He went back into the house for a few seconds and returned to the green yard. The scythe in his hands was made for cutting grass. As a person who used to be considered the servant for Mobei-Jun, Luo Binghe, and Sha Hualing, he was quite used to cutting grass and trimming hedges. He tightened his grip on the scythe pressed the sharp edge and dragged it repeatedly over a tiny piece of grass. He moved to another area and another. While he worked away, he felt nauseous, and his arms felt like they were becoming heavier as he progressed. He picked up the cup of water that he had next to him and took a drink from it. Although he could feel the cold water in his stomach, he didn’t feel any better and was a little more thirsty. This was not a problem though, he had worked through worse conditions and he could do more.
But almost after 10 minutes of continuous work, the scythe dropped from his hand and he felt too weak to pick up again. His legs felt like they were about to give out and so he forced himself to sit down under the single tree in their yard. He groaned and wiped his sweat that seemed like it wouldn’t stop pouring. Luckily Mobei-Jun had arrived just in time, appearing out of nowhere.
“…” Mobei-June cold glare struck fear in Shang Qinghua’s heart, and it felt like the sweat he was complaining in his head about froze on the spot. But he felt a cramp in his calf and he half squeaked half yelped in pain as his muscles tightened. Although Mobei-Jun had an icy expression, he was worried. He just came back from his errands that Luo Binghe asked him to do, to only see his husband in distress.
“Qinghua. What happened” Mobei-Jun placed his cold hand on Shang Qinghua’s extremely hot forehead. it was uncomfortable for Mobei-Jun, his least favorite feeling was warmth. But he saw relief in the face of Qinghua so he dealt with it as best as he could.
“Mn…My king. It’s nothing…Just…Just doing work, I don’t know what’s happening..” Shang Qinghua said, his voice was clear but he stuttered a bit. He was an idiot. He did barely anything about heat exhaustion, did he? This is what Mobei-Jun thought as he picked up his husband.
Jesus, his whole body was warm. Mobei-Jun quickly teleported Shang Qinghua into their house and laid him on their bed. He knew what to do, even though he lived his life in solitude, he knew medicinal things. He quickly took a towel from a cab and froze it easily in his hand. Running back to the room where Shang Qinghua was, he placed it on his forehead and brought a glass of water with him.
Shang Qinghua felt extremely uncomfortable in his clothing, he felt his skin was melting inside of his robes and he struggled with his minimal strength to tug at the sash of his robes. Fortunately, Mobei-Jun untied his sash and removed his outer robe. He was left in a loosened inner robe as he sipped ice water from his cup.
“Thank you, my king…But you don’t need to do all of this” Shang Qinghua smiled, although he was married to Mobei-Jun he still felt like he was an outsider, and a lowly attendant to Mobei-Jun.
“Nonsense. You can barely take care of yourself. Evidently.” Mobei-Jun’s cold expression softened and so did his tone. He pressed his cold lips to Shang Qinghua’s forehead.
“Ugh…I feel so dizzy…” Shang Qinghua placed his hand on his head, trying to steady himself.
“Then rest. You’ll be fine as long as I'm here.” Mobei-Jun had gotten a wooden basin full of water and a small hand towel and dabbed it on Shang-Qinghua’s body. Pressing kisses to his forehead now and then.
But all Shang Qinghua could think of was how nicely Mobei-Jun had been treating him today. He smiled, even though he ached.
