Work Text:
In the end it doesn’t even matter who won and who lost.
As Noroshi leave, Sakura thinks...they really leave wasteland in their wake. The town is barely destroyed, only some roadsigns and dented railings, but the injured Furin members are no joke. Most of them are just bruises, but there are bunch with more serious ones and a few needed to be hospitalized. It makes his blood turn cold on how could it end if he didn’t ask their allies to help.
They have casualties too, even if they say it’s fine and it was agreed upon. It isn’t right.
As he goes to his place he silently curses both Noroshi and his helplessness.
Umemiya is alive, but very hurt. His fight with Takiishi ended in a draw but it looks like redhead lost interest in Furin leader when they finished.
The town is healing, everything should be fine now.
But Sakura knows, Endo will never leave the town alone as long as he stays here. For some sort of twisted obsession, he will destroy and break everything Haruka holds dear without even second glance. Just to see how he burns and burns and breaks. Till he becomes unrestrained fire who destroys everything he touches. Till he becomes like Takiishi.
His seniors says everything will be fine. That they once repelled the Noroshi and can do it again
But it all makes Sakura wonder.
For how long?
How long till the last person standing would be overwhelmed and brought to its knees?
What would happen to Furin then?
What would happen to Umemiya?
And what would happen to him?
Would Endo just bring him to his side without consent? Would he lock him down till his pride breaks and mind shatters leaving only beast who wants to fight and destroy?
Would he try to brainwash Sakura making him enemy of Furin?
Will he hate Suo, Nirei and the others? Will they hate him?
He can’t bear the thought of them looking at him with disgust, like he is some sort of abomination. Old him maybe could do it, clench his fists and bare his fangs and lash out at those who sneer at him, even if they were allies for a moment. But not the current him, not the him who found out what is friendship and warmth of another person. Not him who knows gentle touches and happy laughs.
The him now wants to look and see everyone smile at him, welcoming him back.
Sakura can’t accept the darkness that Endo brings. It is so dark, so wicked that he cant believe person like that can exist in this world. Something inside Sakura is repulsed by the very thought that he nearly accepted the offer and went with this failure of a human.
No.
Sakura isn’t sure if he can even consider him human. He is more like....lump of darkness and desires entwined together by pure obsession. It’s not something he wants to know close, the opposite, it makes him want to stay away as far as possible. Not like it is possible now when their fates got intertwined.
To protect.
Sometimes protecting isn’t stubbornly staying in one place fighting tooth and nail for it.
Sometimes to protect is leaving silently in the middle of the night.
And so Sakura runs. And try to not look back to the town he calls home.
