Chapter Text
(an abrupt thud from the dusty, old-fashioned speaker. static waves in and out of the signal, giving way to a brief instrumental that settles more comfortably into the walls of the steel ship after a few seconds. the music rings, then quiets, beginning a staccato triad progression on some kind of electric keyboard shortly before a voice interjects.)
("welcome to your first day on the job." a level, artificial voice comes flatly.)
("this is your very own autopilot ship, where you will eat and sleep for the duration of your contract." the blatant lack of enthusiasm with the joyful tune in the background is jarring, yet somehow normal-sounding all the same.)
("nsulauu etrnica odwrs adn lnhtyegooc and mysyst,se cniligund utb nto imeldit ot yagj ynoknish maishsesa ntwem ne st. hte pncamyo is ont aibell rfo nay nad lla jnrieusi srngtelui mrof sue fo iths wrdaher, or nto tngisrelu rofm esu of isht erawdrah.")
("make yourself at home." the sped up voice returns to normal as if by magic.)
("to complete the onboarding process, you will want to check the instruction manual & sign into your ship's computer terminal." as if hearing its own name, the terminal flicks to life, shaky black screen interrupted by bright green blocky letters.)
("we trust you will be a great asset to the company." a synth-sounding pair of drums kicks in to a steady beat, ship lurching to route towards a planet.)
("grea- great asset to the company.."
"asse- great- great- great- asset to the company.")
"asset- t0great- great asset to..."
the music and voice fades out, leaving a few silent moments of static to break the signal before the speaker cuts.)
(welcome to the company.)
