I went on a summer trip with my friends and now half of us aren’t talking to each other
There’s going to be a lot of fucking people in this story unfortunately since a lot of my friends went on this trip. It was the summer before we graduated college so we wanted one last hurrah before entering the real working world. (Some of us were fucking poor so technically we’ve had jobs our entire lives but whatever). So we all arranged to go to Eridan (21 AM)’s beach house. He’s disgustingly rich so of course he had a beach house.
The important players in this story are my best friends Sollux (21 OM), and Gamzee (22 AM). Also my friend Eridan, the owner of the beach house, Tavros (21 OM) a member of the friend group and Vriska (21 AF) Tavros' ex girlfriend. At the time we didn’t know what a verbally abusive piece of shit Vriska was to Tavros and that’s why we let her come on the trip.
So some background. Tavros and Vriska have been in an on and off relationship since they started dating when we were in our junior year of high school. Usually it was Vriska breaking them off but their most recent breakup - a week before the trip - was instigated by Tavros which made it feel more final. Gamzee and Tavros are best friends and have been since we were 13 (Gamzee and I are also best friends but we don’t hang out as a trio, I don’t really like Tavros all that much). And Gamzee has been in love with Tavros since then. Anytime Tavros is on break with Vriska, Gamzee will use the chance to confess his feelings and insinuate that he and Tavros get together but Tavros always turns him down.
Since this is important to the story I have to admit that I have a crush on Gamzee and have had one for a long time, since I was 17. I wish I didn’t have a crush on this idiot but life is cruel that way. Some other important context will be sprinkled throughout the story when it’s made relevant.
We left for Eridan's beach house in the middle of July as we planned, taking 3 separate vehicles to be able to transport everyone. Because Eridan is disgustingly rich we only had to room with one other person so I chose Sollux as my roommate since we’re friends and we already live together outside of the context of this trip. The first few days of the trip were going normally. We went to the beach, explored the town near the beach house, went clubbing, everything you would expect. On this trip I was planning to confess my feelings for Gamzee since we were going to graduate soon and could be pulled into different directions in our adult life. I decided to try and tell him one night during a bonfire. I thought the setting was suitably relaxed but also romantic. He was coming back from talking to Tavros and I pulled him aside to talk to him. He interrupted me to tell me excitedly that he had confessed again to Tavros and Tavros said he was willing to give them a chance. I was fucking crushed but I wasn’t going to show that shit. I congratulated him in my own way and then went back to the house.
As a person who doesn’t know how to handle things properly I did start raiding the fridge for alcohol and drinking whatever I could find. Eridan came in after me and asked what was going on and I told him to fuck off and leave me to my drinks. Despite him being an asshole most of the time he can sometimes be a good friend. So he stayed and drank with me. I woke up in his room with no clothes, a killer headache, bite marks on my chest and an equally naked Eridan sleeping next to me, so it was pretty obvious what happened. I quickly got dressed, took some pills and joined everyone for breakfast - trying to pretend like nothing out of the ordinary happened. Eventually Eridan came down and I only noticed when I was at the breakfast bar (I know) putting some food on my plate and he came up behind me and wrapped his arms around me. He kissed my neck and said good morning and I had to try my best not to freak the fuck out. I whispered to him what the hell he was doing and he said that he was just greeting his boyfriend. Eridan was pulled away by another friend of ours named Feferi (21 OF) so I wasn’t able to respond or even process what just happened. I didn’t notice at the time but Sollux had seen that whole interaction (nobody else was really paying attention).
It was that night that things got even worse. We were having another party on the beach because what else would you do when you’re staying at a beach house. I was trying my best to avoid Eridan because I really didn’t want to deal with that so I stuck pretty closely to Gamzee. I couldn’t tell at the time that Sollux was mad at me since we had barely talked all day, something which isn’t an immediate red flag since Sollux has other close friends in the friend group. Anyways Gamzee and I were goofing around (more like he was bothering me and I’m a really reactive person so he could always get a rise out of me) and he was chasing me with a worm on a stick when we stumbled upon Vriska and Tavros kissing. They didn’t see us but we definitely saw them. In the moment I didn’t notice how tightly Vriska was holding onto Tavros’s wrist or how their position really didn’t give Tavros any way to escape. All that we noticed was that Vriska was kissing Tavros and they were probably going to be back together and Gamzee was crushed. I tried to comfort him, partly because he was my friend and he was hurting and also selfishly because I wanted him to realize I was there for him. I went for his arm but he pulled away and walked off. I went back to the bonfire but he wasn’t there. I only stayed a little bit longer before pretending I had a headache and retreating back to my room.
I opened the door ready to collapse on my bed but then I saw them. Sollux and Gamzee were having sex, on my bed. Gamzee pulled out quickly and started scrambling for his clothes apologizing as I stood there in silence. He quickly slipped past me since I was too stunned to stop him. All I could stare at was Sollux who didn’t look even the least bit flustered. I snapped out of it and started yelling at him asking why the fuck he would sleep with Gamzee when he knew I liked him and Sollux yelled back that I slept with Eridan. I asked him why the fuck that mattered and he said that it was obvious that he liked Eridan. I told him that no it fucking wasn’t because no, it fucking wasn’t. Eridan and Sollux were always fighting, and talking crap about each other so it would never be my first thought that they liked each other. Sollux continued arguing saying that I was a slut for trying to have two guys and I admit I jumped on him and we started physically fighting. (He had put back on his clothes at this point, while we were arguing). With all the ruckus we were making, most of our friends came in and pulled us apart. I ended up sleeping in my friend Kanaya's (21 OF) room and Kanaya’s roommate Terezi (21 OF) went to sleep with Sollux.
The next morning we all agreed to cut the trip early and we got back in our respective vehicles and went back home. I packed some clothes when we got back to our apartment and have been staying at Kanya’s ever since. I haven’t yet talked to Tavros, Gamzee, Eridan, or Sollux since that night and I don’t think they’ve talked to each other.
