Summary
Alex has always wanted to fly.
Not because he wants to escape the tiny island he's grown up on, nor because of iron cuffs clasped ‘round his ankles that chain him to the spot. Shackles of family. Roots of a tree. A tree with so few branches, but roots tangled strongly into the Land and holding hands with other roots. Land belonging to an island holding a farm as his home and a small town with many trees enveloping the pocket of life in a comforting, suffocating hug. This town resides within the elbow of a cliff with a weathering face, a cliff that reaches like an outstretched hand towards olympus’ peak and towers over the Sea. Many surrounding trees, like arm hairs, that reach for the Sky but are never tall enough to grace the clouds. A stream, like a vein of blood, rushes by the small town; past the trees, swimming upwards to also reach the Sun above. But that, too, is rejected in a fall over the edge of the cliff.
