"Sit,"
Blossom commanded, her tone firm yet familiar, prompting a roll of red eyes from the boy. Nonetheless, he complied, considering there was no point in arguing with her.
“I’m fine,” The boy muttered , taking a seat at her dining table.
“I don’t think I asked,” Blossom retorted, swiftly retrieving the first aid kit from the kitchen counter.
“The antidote X, will wear off in like an hour pinky.”
But as usual, his excuses fell on deaf ears as Blossom continued her task.
As she approached, his face flushed, anticipating her proximity.
“You can still scar you know, despite the antidote X wearing off.” she lectured, lifting his chin to inspect the cut with cold hands, colder than usual too. He wondered if she was feeling okay.
It was something they noticed with any “nature”power, it spiked with emotions.
“Scars are cool,”he lamely explained, earning a quick roll of her pink eyes, though a fleeting smile betrayed her disapproval.
“You know, when we offered up the training room and antidote X supplements. It wasn’t so you boys can just go crazy on each other.”
Actually, when they first offered it up, it was more for Buttercup and Butch to hash out some things that apparently words couldn’t. Brick originally wanted nothing to do with the room or supplements. They were made by the Professor originally for the girls, after Bubbles needed an emergency surgery and her skin was too tough to go on with the procedure. The details were fuzzy to him, but to sum it up Professor made a safe Antidote X supplement, meant for emergencies and occasional sparring without powers. .
“What happened anyways?”
“Butch being Butch,”the boy flinched as Blossom applied the solution to the cut.
“Doesn’t look like he held back much,” she mumbled.
“Never does. But his face wasn't spared either.”
Blossom sighed, finishing up the bandaging.
"There. Let's make this the last time you boys leave our home bloodied. And tell Butch to swing by if he needs patching up too."
"Doubt it, he loves his scars."
Blossom nodded, not understanding but not bothering on pushing it either. Buttercup was the same way, so maybe it was a counterpart thing.
"Well, regardless, we're here to help," Blossom reassured, a hint of warmth softening her tone. "Just remember, it's okay to ask for help when you need it."
The boy nodded knowing this wasn’t about the cut. Despite their differences, there was an unspoken thing among them, which he wouldn’t deny. But not something he was too fond of speaking on either. It was weird to him.
"I know," he said, meeting her gaze annoyed he let the stare linger for a lot longer than it should’ve.
With a gentle smile, Blossom patted his shoulder reassuringly. “Good. You have blood all over your clothes by the way.”
“Who’s the lucky guy?” Professor asked, peeking into the halfway opened bedroom door, basket of clothes in arms.
Blossom rolled her eyes, her cheeks warming slightly. "It's Brick, and it's just for a project," she said, continuing to brush her hair. She intended to keep it down today, so she wanted to make sure it looked nice.
"That dress is new though, isn't it? Seems a bit much for just a project," Professor remarked, a hint of teasing in his tone.
"We're grabbing sushi beforehand... as acquaintances. The new place opened up, he was curious, and I like sushi. It's really nothing, Professor," Blossom explained, meeting her father's gaze.
The older man smiled knowingly. "I didn't say it was, Bloss."
Blossom sighed, outwardly trying to convince herself more than him. "It's just sushi. Nothing more."
Professor chuckled, setting the basket down. "Alright, Bloss. Just remember, if it turns into more than just sushi, I'm here for you."
Blossom smiled, appreciating it. "Thanks, Professor. But really, it's just a school project."
As Professor left the room, Blossom couldn't help but wonder if maybe it was something else… also was the dress really too much?
“Bubbles!”
Professor smiled to himself, when he made it down the stairs.
“Buttercup, Brick was the one who didn’t like sushi right?”
Green eyes stared at him in confusion, with a raised brow.
“Yeah, pretty sure we’ve heard him say he like hated it a few times.”
“Thought I recalled so.”
12 days had passed since their last conversation. The memory of the sushi outing lingered, but she chose not to delve into it, fearing she might spiral into overthinking. Right now, her priority was her project grade.
“Ms. Brown, sorry to bother. I just wanted to let you know about the progress of the project, time passed so quickly but I can assure it will be in tomorrow. Any, late deductions I completely understand. Life just go so hectic.” The girl rambled, not catching sight of the confused look on the woman’s face.
“Oh Blossom, Brick turned it in this morning. Don’t worry, he told me about how much has been on your plate. He already presented it. You guys did great, beautiful project. I wish that monster attack didn’t happen during my class period, I would’ve loved to hear you go into detail on your little facts.”
“Oh, he did?” The girl asked, they didn’t even finish it, she doesn’t even think they got far actually.
“Yes, sweet boy. Looks like, you’re rubbing off on him” the woman winked, locking her classroom door. “I must be on my way though, you can tell me more about your side during my lunch period if you want.”
…
Blossom made her way to the rooftop, she knew he would be there. He was there often, their first one on one meeting happened to be there, then it just became ‘their spot’
"Brick," she began, her voice tight with emotion. "We need to talk."
Brick turned to her, his expression guarded. "Yeah, I know."
Blossom took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart. "I heard from Ms. Brown that you turned in the project this morning. Without me."
Brick hesitated for a moment before responding. "I... I thought it was for the best. You've been dealing with a lot lately, and I didn't want you to stress about it and you’ve been avoiding me so.”
Blossom's frustration bubbled to the surface. "So you finished it for me out of pity? Because I kissed you?"
Brick's eyes widened in surprise. "No, Pinky- Blossom, It really had nothing to do with that. I’m not pitying you over some kiss."
“I know you don’t feel that type of way about me, it was a mistake people kept putting this stupid agenda in my head and I-“ the girl continued.
"But, I do like you." Brick cut her off.
“You didn’t even me kiss back?" she blurted out, cheeks red, mind racing to make sense of everything.
“I panicked! Then you ran, and I thought I messed up or you regretted it so I gave you your space. I thought you knew how i felt, I don’t even like sushi.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
