“Now that I’m free,” With a wicked grin on his face, Sukuna turns to face Gojo with a loud cackle. “I’m going to kill you.”
“That’s good to know!” Gojo merely flashes him a smile before turning his back to him. “Come on, there’s a shop selling delicious ice cream around here!” Gojo waves at him, telling him to catch up.
“Did you not hear me? I said—”
Gojo cuts him off. “My treat! What flavour do you want?”
Sukuna has to decide between killing him or following him to get ice cream.
“You know, I used to come here with a friend,” Gojo starts talking when they both got their ice creams. “He would always order dark chocolate.”
“I don’t see what this has to do with me.” Sukuna says boredly.
“This has everything to do with you.”
Unamused, Sukuna decides to ignore him. Sukuna glances down at the ice cream cone in his hand, observing the unbeforeseen treat that the sorcerer who’s sitting next to him bought for him.
Gojo seems to enjoy it, which only makes Sukuna more skeptical. He doesn’t find the thought of eating the same food the annoying sorcerer enjoys pleasing.
With Gojo’s terrible personality, Sukuna is sure his food choices are horrible too. Hesitantly, Sukuna opens his mouth slowly and takes a bite.
Sweet.
“That’s why it’s tasty. I told you you would like it.” Gojo speaks suddenly.
It’s only then that Sukuna realizes he has accidentally said it out loud.
Sukuna glances sideways at Gojo and denies it. “It’s too sweet.”
“Nothing’s sweeter than you.” Gojo is so smooth that it catches Sukuna completely off guard.
Blinking, Sukuna stares at him for a moment before scowling. “Why do you have to be so annoying?”
“Me? Annoying? No way~”
“Bring me something less sweet next time.”
As the black marks on Yuji’s face start to fade away, Gojo bursts out laughing at Sukuna’s quick escape.
Yuji doesn’t know when it started, but his tongue starts tasting like ice cream after his missions.
Well, Sukuna knows the answer, and so does Gojo.
Whenever Sukuna switches out with Yuji at every life-threatening situation during Yuji’s missions, he goes with Gojo to have ice cream afterwards.
It’s not that Sukuna finds ice cream delicious, nor does he finds Gojo’s company enjoyable. It’s just that he finds the weather simply too hot, and it doesn’t help that he’s stuck wearing the brat’s uniform.
The only reason he’s going to have ice cream with Gojo is that Gojo doesn’t let him roam around unsupervised, and also because Gojo is paying. They visit the same ice cream shop every time, and every time, Sukuna tries different flavors.
On the bright side, Gojo has become less annoying. Sukuna doesn’t know if it’s because Gojo is toning it down or it’s because he has become accustomed to it. He hopes it’s the former.
Today, he doesn’t see Gojo waiting for him after he’s done with the mission. Sukuna only hesitates for a second before he swiftly makes his way to the ice cream shop. Well, he could use this chance to go on a killing spree, but he decides that he’ll think on it on some ice cream.
Sukuna arrives at the shop and to his dismay, the shop owner decides to have small talk with him.
“Alone today?”
“…Clearly.”
Noticing Sukuna’s gaze, the shop owner grins. “Wanna try dark chocolate today, huh? That reminds me of someone who always bought dark chocolate from me. I don’t know if you know him, but he’s your friend’s friend.”
Gojo did mention it before, but Sukuna isn’t interested in the least. The shop owner keeps talking to him anyway.
“Apparently, they had a fight. After that, they never came with each other anymore. It’s been a few years since I saw him, I wonder what happened to him.”
“Dead, probably.” Sukuna comments with a bored expression.
“Even if he’s death to him, they had a beautiful friendship. Youngsters these days…” The shop owner shakes his head in disapproval.
Sukuna takes the ice cream and sits in the same place he and Gojo always sit outside the shop.
“I’ll admit, I’m surprised to see you here.”
When he’s almost halfway through the ice cream, he hears Gojo’s voice behind him. Without replying, Sukuna hands him a small paper bag.
“What’s this?” Gojo asks, taking the bag from Sukuna.
“See for yourself.”
Gojo takes out a cup of sundae from the bag. Sukuna bought him the newest flavor.
Gojo looks surprised. “You bought it for me?”
“No, I bought it for myself.” Sukuna says sarcastically.
Gojo slides next to him on the bench, sitting awfully close.
“Keep your legs closed. You’re hogging all the space.” Sukuna complains.
“You can’t blame me for being tall.” Gojo starts digging into his cup of sundae. “What were you going to do if I didn’t come?”
“Commit genocide.” Sukuna rolls his eyes.
“Now, now, genocide is overrated—” Gojo’s sentence cuts to a sudden stop.
Sukuna turns to see that Gojo is staring at his dark chocolate ice cream. “What?” Sukuna furrows his eyebrows.
Gojo doesn’t answer him for a long while before finally returning to his usual self again.
“Nothing, I was just looking at the ice cream that got on your cheek,” he replies with a grin.
Sukuna just scowls at him.
On the brat’s next mission, Gojo isn’t there again. Sukuna doesn’t feel like eating ice cream this time.
He has a feeling that Gojo is avoiding him. Well, he’ll give him a reason to regret it.
“What’s your problem?” Sukuna demands as he barges into Gojo’s office.
“Oh, you’re back.” Gojo acts like he’s surprised to see him.
Sukuna isn’t having any of it. “Answer the question.”
“What question?” Gojo feigns ignorance.
“Don’t act dumb, you know what I’m talking about. The ice cream and the missions—”
“You’re done with the mission, right? I need to write a report for the higher-ups—” Gojo starts to stand—trying to escape, probably.
“You’re not going anywhere without explaining.” Sukuna steps in front of him to block him. “I know this has something to do with dark chocolate ice cream and that friend of yours.”
Gojo stills for a moment before sighing in resignation. “Are you that curious that you threw away the chance of wrecking havoc and came here to ask me that?”
Looks like the cat’s out of the bag now.
“He wasn’t ‘just a friend’. You eating dark chocolate ice cream reminded me of him and made me realise just how deep my feelings for you were.” Gojo pauses a bit here to check Sukuna’s expression.
“You may continue.” Sukuna says calmly, his expression unreadable.
Gojo takes a deep breath before continuing, “He went against the jujutsu world and I ended him with my own hands. It’s the same case as you. I avoided you because I knew this wouldn’t last and didn’t want to further develop our relationship.”
“So in short, you’re running away because you don’t want to get hurt.” Sukuna summarizes.
“It’s easy for you to say. I bet you’ve never experienced love before.” Gojo accuses.
“Hah, don’t think you can take the easy way out after making me fall for you.” Sukuna huffs.
There’s a moment of silence before Gojo gapes at him. “For real?” Gojo stares at him, dumbfounded. “Wait, seriously? You really like me? You’re not pulling my leg, are you?”
“Why else did you think I bought that new flavored ice cream for you?” Sukuna crosses his arms. “Well, not that it matters anymore, since you’re scared of commitment.”
“I’m not scared of commitment,” Gojo refutes with a nervous smile.
“Prove it then.” Sukuna challenges.
Gojo starts to speak, but then hesitates. A look of uncertainty clouds his eyes. Is he really ready to commit to someone and get his heart broken again?
“Just… Just give me some time to think, okay?” In the end, Gojo chooses the easy way out.
Sukuna just scoffs at him and leaves.
Sukuna doesn’t want to admit it, but the ice cream is starting to grow on him. He’s in a bad mood lately, or to be precise, he’s been in a bad mood ever since Gojo’s rejection.
A bastard who played with his feelings—that’s who Gojo is. Worse more, he made him addicted to ice cream. Oh woe is him.
With a sigh, Sukuna closes his eyes and leans back against the bench they usually sit on. The only thing that’s different is that Gojo isn’t here with him anymore.
Just as he’s thinking about how he misses Gojo’s annoying presence, a shadow of a figure looms over him. Opening his eyes, he’s met with a familiar face.
“Wanna join me for some fried ice cream?” Gojo offers with a smile.
Sukuna lets Gojo pull him up from the bench. “I thought you quit eating ice cream.”
“You know me, I can’t say no to ice cream.” Gojo jokes before adding, “Neither can I say no to you too.”
Sukuna huffs. “Smooth talker.”
“You like it.” Gojo can tell by his slight change of expression.
Sukuna changes the topic. “What’s fried ice cream?”
“You know, ice cream, but fried.” Gojo gives him an useless answer as usual.
“Why are we having fried ice cream this time? What’s wrong with normal ice cream?” Sukuna asks, skeptical.
Gojo just shrugs. “Nothing, I just felt like trying something new.”
Ever since they had that conversation, Gojo’s been thinking. He shouldn’t let his past haunt him forever, especially not when he likes Sukuna as much as he likes ice cream. Sure, they might not have a happy ending, but that just makes the time they spend together even more precious.
As for fried ice cream, it signifies the start of a new relationship in his life. He thinks that Sukuna kinda guessed it too.
“Fine, but you’re paying.” Sukuna huffs as he walks with Gojo in the direction of their new dessert place.
Gojo moves closer so that their shoulders are bumping, a smile playing on his lips. “What do you mean? I always pay.”
Sukuna rolls his eyes with a scoff. Even so, when Gojo moves to grab his hand, Sukuna accepts it regardless and lets him intertwine their fingers together.
“Have you thought of what flavor you’re getting later?” Gojo asks, humming.
Sukuna gives it some thought before answering, “Vanilla.”
“Vanilla?”
“It matches your hair.” Sukuna explains.
The reason behind it makes Gojo smile. “I’ll get strawberry then,” he chirps.
Sukuna just gives him a lazy glance. “Suit yourself.”
From then on, fried ice cream becomes their new favourite dessert.
