Both Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji had been out on a night hunt with the juniors. Of course they cared deeply about the juniors, and would never do anything to them, but the juniors had worn them out. As tired as they were, they couldn’t sleep.
Lan Wangji was sitting in the dining hall of cloud recesses, Wei Wuxian was taking a bath but was now 15 minutes late. It was silent in the room, the setting sun painting the pale walls in orange and black shadows from the trees outside. Finally Wei Wuxian arrived, quietly walked in. As energetic Wei Wuxian had always been during these times, he seemed quiet. Lan Qiren, who was at the head of the hall, seemed to approve of this type of Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian sat next to Lan Wangji, picking up his chop sticks once everyone had began to eat and also ate. It was silent, so silent you could hear the crickets and cicadas enjoying the soon-to-be night. It was peaceful, no one yelling, and no one breaking the rules. Soon enough, everyone finished their meal and bowed. Exiting the hall, the white of the Lan Clan robes seemed like bright lights against the darkening light outside.
“Lan Zhan, can we go to see the rabbits?” Wei Wuxian looked up at Lan Wangji, his face showing a smile. His red robes blended in with the shadows.
“Mn, let’s go.” Lan Wangji said, his own robes a stark contrast from his husbands. Wei Wuxian took Lan Wangji’s hand into his and speed-walked to the secluded area where Lan Wangji had kept his rabbits.
“It’s been forever since i seen these fuzzy ones.” Wei Wuxian said, kneeling down to pick up a rabbit, only for it to run away from him. That was the usual. Animals weren’t ones to favor Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian flopped onto the soft grass. The sun had just a sliver that hadn’t set and the sky had became a deep purple, most of his black. The stars twinkled as Wei Wuxian looked up at them. Lan Wangji joined him, sitting properly on the grass, but he did look up at the sky along with Wei Wuxian. A black rabbit hopped upon Lan Wangji’s lap, nestling itself until it was comfortable. He pet the Rabbit with soft touches, Wei Wuxian watched with a chuckle.
“I expected as much, they never really liked me. Just like last time” Wei Wuxian sighed. “Hey Lan Zhan,”
“What is it, Wei Ying?” Lan Wangji looked down at Wei Wuxian. The cold demeanor everyone saw of him in public had been melted away. His straight-lines lips had found themselves softly curved and he seemed calmer, and happier.
“Do you feel if we were to be born into a new life, we would be together to?” Wei Wuxian propped himself up an elbow, his cheek resting on his palm.
“Mm…No one knows what fate has in store for us. But i hope we are.” Lan Wangji placed a hand on Wei Wuxian’s head, patting his as he stroked the fur of the rabbit in his lap. Wei Wuxian rested his head on Lan Wangji shoulder, after sitting up.
“I hope to.” Wei Wuxian said.
The trees rustled softly with the wind that picked up ever so slightly since night began. A rabbit appeared behind the trees trunk and hopped its way to Wei Wuxian, although it seemed a bit frightened, it sniffed Wei Wuxian, then suddenly hopped onto Wei Wuxians head. Wei Wuxian laughed as he pets the bunny on top of his had, and Lan Wangji lets out a little chuckle. The bunny was white, with a grey spot on its back.
“Did the juniors get back safe?” Wei Wuxian questioned, watching the white bunnies munch on the grass, sleep, and play with eachother.
“Mhm. They arrived at Yunmeng earlier, their safe. Minor injuries on Jin Ling though.” Lan Wangji said. He wrapped an arm around Wei Wuxian’s waist.
“I love you, Lan Zhan…” Wei Wuxian said, he felt himself drifting off to sleep.
“I love you to.” Lan Wangji watches Wei Wuxian doze off, and soon he joins him unknowingly.
The bunnies watched as the couple fell asleep next to each other. Some bunnies slept near the two’s bodies. Finally the two had gotten a break to sleep, under the moon.
