Downpour

Summary:

He always used to think that rain was the time where he can feel calm and relax. But now all he can think is about the memories that will soon be faded.

Work Text:

Oliver gazed outside of the window as the rain started falling from the sky. He was alone now inside the cafe, only being accompanied by the sound of the machine brewing and the sound of the rainfall hitting the pavement outside.

He looked down at the counter and couldn't help but sigh as his mind started to think back about the past.

About how whenever it started to rain he always looked outside to see the rain pouring down from the sky, how the sound of it soothes him. How he can sit with a book in his hands as he listens to the rainfall hitting the ground.

And the memories that he made with his friend under the rainfall. He can remember the memories of his friend grabbing his hands as they both dance under the rain.

Those memories always make him wish he could just turn back time to experience it all again.

It's been years since they went on their separate ways and yet he can't let them go out of his mind. he wishes he had done more to keep their friendship alive, but he never did and regrets it to this day.

Now he only can grieve and yearn for the past that he once had. Afraid that it will start to slowly fade away and won't ever return.

Oliver's head jolted upward when the sound of the bell from the door interrupted his thought. He tries to put on a smile as he greets the new customer but he stops himself as he is greeted by the sight of his old friend.

Oliver's mouth was agape as he observed the person in front of him.

They have grown. They were taller, taller than he last saw them. Their face looks older, and mature, and yet those eyes still look the same way from all those years.

Oliver tried opening his mouth to say something, and yet not a single word came out of his mouth. He was overwhelmed by the sudden surge of emotion running through him.

Happy that he got to see his friend again after a long time of having no contact with each other. And yet he can't help but feel scared. Fear on what will the other say.

Will they be mad at him? Will they even still remember him?

They both stare at each other for what feels like an eternity when His friend's mouth curves upward forming a familiar smile that he used to see all the time when they were together. All of the emotion inside him was quickly washed away as he watched his friend smiling at him.

Oliver could only stand there as he stared at them with a sense of familiarity at the sight of his friend. Memories flowed through his head from when they were just a young kid. Young and carefree when nothing can weigh them down, not even the world itself.

It was clear that Oliver wasn't going to say anything as he was too absorbed by the sight of his old friend so they opened their mouth finally breaking the silence between them both,

"Hi".
