Work Text:
“NERU THAT’S MY SHIT, GIVE IT BACK!” Tex was being unusually informal today, and it was very concerning to one librarian who had been housing the scientist wizard for years ever since the other had been brought back from the Blood world.
Though, it was a bit funny from Neru's perspective.
“It’s a rare chance hearing you yell in that ear-shattering pitch. What did I take from you again?”
“You know damn well what you took! You’re holding it right now!”
As Tex was panting, heaving even, Neru tilted his head as he then looked at the stacks of books in his arms.
Currently, the Library has a new shipment of books that the “happy world” decided to graciously donate to them. And it just so happened that Tex’s oh-so-important grimoire was on top of the piles of books with sickening bright covers on them.
“Oh… You mean this thing?”
Neru put down the stack of books in his arms on the table as he took out the excessively detailed book with celestial bodies and stars carved all over the cover. He was wondering what kind of kid would read this kind of story.
“Yes, now give it back.”
Tex said firmly as he walked down the stairs at a quicker pace as he went over to Neru and tried to snatch it…
… Only for the book to be out of his sight.
“Nah-ah-ah. You know we go by a system here, Tex.”
“Oh, why you-”
Tex immediately started jumping to get his grimoire, even tried to use spells or fly just to get the book, but sadly, the Librarian had a few tricks up his sleeves and did everything in his power to keep it out of reach.
After hours of running along the library, using any dirty trick they knew, they eventually came to a stalemate at the corner of a library.
“You better give that back, you dog…”
Neru huffed a chuckle as he patted the book in his hands.
“Hah, ask more politely, Iris.”
Tex groaned as he ran up to him and tackled him to the ground, his legs at each side of Neru’s body as he pinned the other to the floor to get his beloved grimoire.
“Aha! I got it! Sucks to be you, Neru!”
Tex jovially exclaimed as he then got up from the other and held the grimoire close to his chest. Not even noticing the position they were in a few seconds ago.
Neru sighed as he got up, it seemed like the game was over, and it was time to work again…
… Or so the two thought.
“Watch out!”
“Wha-”
Neru dove in and quickly grabbed Tex’s arm as he pulled the wizard away from the falling books on top of him. But unfortunately, Neru was pulled in by the sudden force of his actions.
So there they were, in a forgotten corner of the library as Neru was on top of Tex, his arms on either side of the other’s eye as the books fell on him instead. How nice.
“You… okay?”
Tex paused for a moment, his mind preoccupied with trying to process what just happened before looking down at the position they were in and flustered as his eye widened.
“Yeah… Yeah, I’m fine…”
They both stayed there for a while, not knowing what to say or do as their minds went blank with their eyes looking at each other, admiring the other’s looks as they just laid there for a while.
But of course, someone had to break it up, not them though.
“Excuse me, I have a-...”
Tex and Neru turned to the noise as the both of them went red and immediately went off each other. Neru cleared his voice as he walked up to the reader with a sheepish grin while Tex was there turning away from the two as he recovered himself.
“I’ll be right with you, will you be okay, Tex?”
Neru said, making the other snap out of his train of thought and looking back at the wolf. He nodded as he stood up and posed in his usual confident and assertive self.
“Hah, when will I never be, dog?”
Tex saw Neru walk away with the reader as he then sighed and waited for the two to be out of sight before walking back to his tower at the top of the stairs.
“Thank god nothing happened.” The two thought separately as they blushed in whatever way they could.
It was clear, they would’ve done something preposterous if left to their own devices for a second more.
