Chapter Text
I was barely of American drinking age when it happened. The year is 2053, and it was a nuclear fallout. A bomb was dropped, and everything was destroyed from either the impact or the after-blast. It was a wasteland here out in the countryside, so my goal was to get to the city. I knew I could live there for a while before I had to fight others for supplies, if nobody in the city survived the close after-blast of the bomb. My name is Nuxo, and I lived quite a ways away from the city thanks to my parents. They went into the city when it happened, and they haven't come back. I don't think they made it. I honestly just accepted this as fate, so I've been living on my own. It's been around a month or two since the incident, but it hasn't been too difficult. The outside is still full of radiation, and I luckily found a gas mask down in the basement. Father probably got it somewhere, and for who knows what. Today was the day I finally decided to make my move to the city just to see what I'm going to have to deal with. I packed a bag, put on the mask, flipped up my hood, shoved on my boots and walked outside. It was about noon, so the sun was high and it was pretty hot outside. I picked up the ax from the porch, and started on my journey down the loose gravel road.
It felt like hours, and the sun was starting to set. I had made it onto the highway, I had walked pretty far and there was no turning back now. Dusty cars were scattered all over the road, and I had to vault over some of them because they were blocking the road. I was a pretty athletic dude, so it wasn't too hard. It was eerie, but it was a calm kind of eerie. Cars everywhere, but no sounds except for my footsteps, the wind, and the occasional bird chirping as it flew off the branch it sat on. The sun got lower, and so did the temperature. It wasn't as hot as it was earlier, which made walking much easier. After a few more hours of walking with a break every now and then to rest, I started to faintly see tall buildings in the distance. I was close to the city. By this point it was probably close to the middle of the night, so I decided to sleep in an empty car. Thankfully there were no bugs or feral animals. I hate them so much.
