Dan was practically melted into the couch. After four episodes of Glee, his eyes felt like they were burning out of their sockets. The scene was perfect - Phil's arm draped over his shoulder, their emptied dinner plates on the coffee table, the time slowly ticking away - Dan wanted to be there forever. He was going to be there forever if he kept nodding off the way he was.
Phil leaned up and paused the TV, untangling himself from Dan. “You're exhausted. We can go get ready for bed.” His voice was light and caring.
“No, it's fine! I'm fine!” Dan sat up quickly, rubbing his eyes. “I feel bad coming over and just using your wifi, eating all your food, and sleeping.”
Phil sighed and placed a kiss on the side of Dan's head. “Sweetie, it's fine. I like having you here. I want you here.”
If Dan wasn't awake earlier, he was now.
The two had never really used pet names. The occasional ‘babe’ was always said in satire, and they were never the couple to be extra PDA. But this was different. This was real. And Dan could feel the realness in his chest. The realness of Phil's tone, the willingness to let Dan into his space, the feeling of the kiss still lingering on his head. It was all real.
Dan leaned back onto the couch, trying to hide how floaty he felt. “Okaaaaaay…thanks for letting me freeload.”
Phil grinned, picking up their abandoned dishes. “I'd want nothing more.”
