Kazuya doesn't want to admit this, but he was never fond of the rain. Be it a drizzle or light shower, or downpour, especially thunderstorms. It only meant delays when there's a game and at this time, it meant cutting short his routine run in the morning as a professional athlete.
While jogging his way for a shortcut towards home, avoiding the upcoming downpour, he looked up at the skies. That heavy clouds reigning over needed to be taken seriously. For a moment, he thought, this isn't even a case for Eijun. He is fond of the rain and always looks at that silver lining in every moment it does. It's amusing to discover this not-so-little secret after being reunited together when Eijun finally graduated from the university. A lot has happened, but he's grateful that they are together.
He finally arrived at their flat and it seemed quiet when he entered. He quickly changed his running shoes into slippers and padded his way in.
“I'm home…”
Only silence greeted him. The walls were the only ones who heard his greeting. Eijun didn't seem home. He knows sometimes, he does his own run, but not as religious as he did on their younger years. He thought he might be somewhere near their area. He could be buying freshly baked bread, or for a totally different reason, like pursuing his hobby on an ungodly early hours.
He sighed, as he was not mentally prepared not having someone to greet him back. It feels incomplete.
As soon as he took a face towel to wipe himself dry from sweat, he heard his phone buzz for an incoming message.
It reads: "Kazuya, will be out for a while. I promise to be back and eat breakfast with you like usual at 8.”
He read a vague message, but packed with a promise. Although, it gave him an idea that he is up to something. Eijun was not very subtle, even before their highschool years. He is someone who wears his sleeves on. Yes, he can be unpredictable like his moving fastball, but Kazuya knows the ball will accurately go towards him and catch it perfectly with his mitt.
“Hhmm, he could be... But it's going to rain…” He suddenly blurted out, frustrated in a way but more worried that Eijun forgot to bring an umbrella with him or a jacket at least.
He quickly went to their shared bedroom to grab any jacket he could see right away. He wanted to fetch Eijun before a heavy downpour. While unhooking a blue jacket at the back of the bedroom’s door, he noticed some of Eijun's precious camera bags and storage box were out of their usual place. As a cleanfreak himself, he stared at them and it just clicked. He knows where he is, by looking at those opened camera bags and lens containers.
He ran towards their door and picked up the biggest umbrella with him from their gekkan. He hurriedly went out, dashing his way towards a park they frequently pass by when they are doing their groceries together. He always noticed Eijun would spot a certain area of bushes, turning his head and muttering out loud “not yet, huh?”, matching it with a frown at some point, but he didn't ask him further, when he tried to pry in for details. It's one of the relationship dynamics they learned and adapted from when they started living together.
His guts were right, Kazuya spotted Eijun near the bushes, crouching down with his favorite camera, in his own world, taking lots of photos of hydrangeas in full bloom with some grace of the light rain. He strides towards Eijun, he can’t waste this precious time being wet by the rain. He moves the umbrella closer, making sure he is underneath the protection of the umbrella.
“Hey gorgeous,” he greeted with his husky voice, showing his grin, like he won. He tries to hide his fondness for his partner, as he couldn't wipe off the curve on his lips.
Eijun looked up quickly, familiar with the voice calling him ‘gorgeous’ and the rain spots stopped dropping on him.
“Oh, hi!” He greets back with a slightly high pitched voice. He could not hide his blushing pink cheeks, but he brightly smiled at him. Too happy to see Kazuya beside him and knowing exactly where he is.
“I knew I’ll find you here, Eijun.”
Kazuya sets the umbrella over him, securing him not to get wet by the rain, but minding a good amount of space where the light doesn't obstruct his subject. He could see he was ready for this kind of weather, wearing a thick and waterproof jacket. His camera has a protective rain cover and the lens was equipped with a hood. He is steps ahead of course, it's his favorite thing. Eijun knows it better than him. He shouldn't be a worrywart in the first place.
“Miyuki Kazuya!! How did you know I am here?” He said out loud, and didn't hold back expressing himself especially when he's with Kazuya.
“Oi, you're calling me by my full name again.” sighed.
“Well, I saw your camera storage box out and your precious camera and lens are missing. Besides, it’s hydrangea season… Eijun, you were eyeing this corner when we passed by everyday. You aren’t that subtle, you know. I’m sure you’re waiting for the perfect time to see them in full bloom and take their photos.”
“I’m so moved, Miyuki Kazuya! You really know me, can’t hide anything from you, huh?” Eijun couldn't hide his big toothy smile.
“Of course, you can’t!” He beamed a confident smile back at him.
“Then, Kazuya… can you give me a few more minutes to finish? Is it okay to wait for me?” he pleads with puppy eyes.
“Hhmm” He nods, as he chose to wait for him.
“Take your time, but make it quick, Eijun. I just don’t want you to catch a cold and pass it to me.” He wanted to tease him.
“KAZUYA?! I’m trying to concentrate here…ssshhhh!”
“Just kidding… Now concentrate, so we can go home. The rain will pour heavier.”
“Yeah, I’m on it… Just keep quiet for me, please.”
Eijun angles his head and moves his neck at a certain degree to capture the beauty of these lovely hydrangeas. He gave all of his energy to focus on what he was doing, so he could finish it before the rain pours heavier. He remembered he needed to keep the promise he made to Kazuya, to eat breakfast together.
Kazuya can’t help but watch Eijun take some various angles on the bunch of flowers and take their best shots. He just loves Eijun doing what he loves to do. If he can see Eijun happy, he is happy as well. He can't help but take out his own phone and take a candid shot of him in full glory. His shots aren't on par with what Eijun has, but he wanted to capture this memorable day.
After a few more minutes.
“Kazuya...” He said, as he stood up and leaned closer to Kazuya under the big umbrella, which surprisingly can hold up two tall people.
“Are we good to go?” Kazuya asked him.
“Yeah! All set!” Eijun hooked his arm around Kazuya’s arm, looping them.
They start walking to head back home. Kazuya predicted the rain would pour heavier, but it only drizzled. He's more than happy the rain situation didn't worsen. He looked at Eijun, trying to see if he was still smiling after his photo session. He still does and it shines so bright, he forgot about the rain and made his heart full.
When he looked up at the sky to check the clouds again, surprisingly, there’s a ray of sunlight directly shining towards them, which made his morning so fulfilling and special. He realized that the actual sun was right beside him.
