Work Text:
He was in third person watching the moment outside of his own body. The body that betrayed him, the one under Levanas control. He grabbed Cress pushed her up against the wall and stabbed her. He heard her gasp, he felt the pain in his own stomach, but he knew it would never compare to what she felt.
The blood seeped from her butterfly outfit and Thorne looked back up into her eyes, full of hurt and betrayal. She had to know that it was Levana controlling him, she had to know that he would never to that to her.
Something was different this time, he twisted the knife and Cress shrieked, it rung in his ears. Her eyes started to water and Thorne gaining control of his own body again let go of the knife. He stared at her horror filling his eyes as she slid down to the ground.
Thorne was begging her to forgive him, saying that he was sorry but he couldn’t even hear himself over the sound of Cress’s shriek on repeat in his head.
Thorne woke up with a gasp, his entire body sweaty and hot. He wiped his brow and sat up in bed. His throat was dry and he grabbed the glass of water beside his bunk and sees that it’s empty. Thorne groaned and got up, walking into the corridor and heading towards the Rampions kitchen.
Cress was a very light sleeper, every little noise keeping her awake. She had gotten used to it on the satellite, always getting up if Sybil needed her. She hated being a light sleeper, wishing that she could fall into a deep sleep and not have any worries about what was going on around her. Unfortunately she was woken up by a clattering sound outside of her room.
Wondering why anyone would be up so late she grabbed her hairbrush off of her nightstand and quietly opened her door. She creeped into the hallway and turned the corner to see Thorne in the kitchen.
She stopped in her tracks, taking in his unruly hair and his night clothes. A thin cotton shirt and gray sweatpants. Her gaze reached his face and he looked exhausted, a very different look compared to his confident and dazzling expression. Then she reached his eyes and saw that he had been staring at her too. She blushed glad that it was hidden in the dim light of the kitchen.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.” Thorne apologized, Cress walked towards him and asked “Why are you up so late?”
Thorne looked away, seemingly embarrassed. “I was…thirsty. Why are you holding a hairbrush?” Before Cress could comment on the obvious lie she looked to her hand and noticed that she was still holding the hair brush she had brang as a weapon. “I didn’t know who was out here, I just wanted to be cautious.”
Thorne gave her a crooked grin “Smart…” there was a silence as they stared at each other. “Thorne, tell my why you’re really up. I know it’s not because you’re thirsty.”
“Well technically that is the reason why I’m out here, but the reason I woke up was because…I uh had a nightmare.” He looked back at his glass of water and took a long sip.
Cress knew immediately what the nightmare was about. She had the same one all of the time. It was Thorne stabbing her during the fight with Levana. “Oh.” Cress breathed.
Cress took in a breath and looked at him, she wanted to comfort him, but she didn’t know how. She had to do what she did best, pretend. She was a therapist, she could help anyone through any crisis. Especially a nightmare.
“The important thing to remember is that I’m here now, I didn’t die, and I’m perfectly ok. It’s normal to feel guilty about what happened but you have to remember you weren’t in control of yourself. Levana was manipulating you.” She walked closer to him and took his hands in hers. “I know you would never try to hurt me, and I don’t blame you in anyway for what happened.”
Thorne was looking into her eyes an adoring look in his gaze. He moved his hand to her cheek and leaned down to kiss her. It was a soft kiss, not passionate like in the palace on Luna but it was sweet and comforting.
Slowly Thorne pulled away and whispered “You always know how to make me feel better.”
Cress smiled at him, she suddenly had a thought but she was too embarrassed to ask. They’d slept together in the desert, holding each other through the night but that was out of necessity, would it be weird to consider it now? Cress sucked in a breath, this was Thorne, they had confessed their love to each other, and beside couples slept in the same bed all of the time.
Thorne must have started to grow concerned over her long silence, so he asked “Is something wrong?” Cress shook her head “No..I was just wondering, if maybe you wanted to sleep in my bed tonight? You obviously don’t have to if you feel more comfortable in your bed it was just a silly sug-“
She was interrupted by Thornes response “I would like that, Cress.” Cress let out a sigh of relief and smiled at him. She grabbed his glass of water and led him to her room.
She opened the door quietly so she didn’t wake Scarlet or Wolf up and she led him into her cabin. She placed the glass on her bedside table and crawled into bed. She stopped right as she made it to the spot closest to the wall. “Wait, do you want this side?”
Thorne gave a wicked grin and said “It doesn’t matter as long as we share a side.” Cress felt the heat rush to her cheeks and she saw a matching shade on Thornes face, she could tell that he was nervous about what he had said.
Cress giggled and responded “I wouldn’t mind that.” Thorne grinned and climbed on the bed on the spot next to her.
Cress scooted closer to him and she lay on her side. Thorne snaked his arms around her stomach and rested his head on the crook of her neck. He planted a soft kiss on her neck and whispered “Sweet dreams, Cress.” she smiled and replied “Sweet dreams, Captain.”
