Work Text:
It's an extremely important slash unimaginably hectic day for Hanbin. It's even busier than when he had three assignments, a quiz and a presentation due the next day back in his second year at uni. It's draining him in and out, but he was never happier. For, it was the dream day to see his best friend tying the knot with his long term boyfriend.
Hanbin was one of the first few people Jiwoong talked to before proposing to his boyfriend, Matthew. He had seen and done the planning for the proposal, watched them get engaged and now- after days of hustling, contacting, planning and organizing, he was finally going to witness their wedding.
It's surreal. He couldn't believe that he had seen them together since the very beginning. Even before Matthew entered Korea, even before Jiwoong formed a crush on him- he was there. As he was, undoubtedly, Jiwoong's best friend.
Hanbin barely found time to doll himself up. Had it not been Jiwoong pushing him, he'd just put on his suit and go check on every other thing. Luckily, there were other people, both of their parents, other friends and all, so he got free time to breathe and make himself presentable.
He looked handsome, he himself agreed to that based on the reflection in the mirror. Jiwoong once joked that his wedding would be the perfect spot for Hanbin to look for a partner. Honestly, with that face, Hanbin had a fair amount of hope. He couldn't waste more time on that, though, as Jiwoong called and assigned him to more tasks. He scurried out, looking for his best friend first. Once he met Jiwoong, his eyes sparkled.
"Look at the gorgeous groom, huh?" He hugged his friend who looked breathtaking in his faint azure tuxedo.
"Ah, Hanbin ah.." Jiwoong said, holding his hands, "I'm so nervous!"
"It's gonna be fine, hyung." Hanbin said to his friend, "You'll forget everything when you get to see him."
A smile occupied the handsome man's face, "I know. I can't wait to see him during the first look."
"Bet he's looking beautiful." Added Hanbin. He wanted to stay and accompany his friend, but someone called him to talk to the violinist because it was about time he began to play.
"Binnie, go and set things up for him?" Jiwoong asked. Of course, Hanbin agreed. He walked out, looking for the team of musicians he had previously contacted. Matthew personally knew the guy who'd play the violin, said he's a senior from their university. Hanbin never met him though, only talked to him over phone, as Matthew did most of the detailed talking.
When he first reached the violinist, the man had his back faced at Hanbin, picking something up from the ground. As Hanbin coughed and asked for his attention, the man stood up and turned. And if that was a movie scene, you'd get a slo-mo. Because damn! Hanbin could swear he had that face burnt in his memory. The light brown hair, fair skin, a single mole under one of those big, expressive eyes, and that pair of pouty, plump lips hiding a generous smile- in that off white suit with bow tie, he looked on the same level as the grooms, maybe. Or Hanbin was just delusional. He loved how that man looked.
"Oh, hello. I was wondering if we should begin now, cause- many guests have already arrived." The man, going by the name Zhang Hao said. Hanbin took a few seconds to collect himself, then answered, "Right. Yeah, you've got everything ready?"
"Yeah." Nodded the pretty guy.
"Good, then I'll show you the way. Come with me." Hanbin guided him towards the stage arranged in one corner, covered in white and flowers tucked in. For an uninterrupted flow of classic, wedding style music. He watched as the violinist took his sopt, checked a few things and then, slowly, began playing.
It was like magic. The music, the way he looked with closed eyes and the violin pressed against his cheek- Hanbin was in awe. He would probably just stand there and watch, but was called again, because it was time his friend's wedding ceremony would begin.
Jiwoong had his parents walk him down the aisle, he looked as stunning as ever. Hanbin felt proud, nostalgic, emotional. He remembered knowing that man since they were kids. He felt a pinch of pain- of watching someone so close to him grow up to be a groom. His eyes would still constantly go to the pretty violinist who was playing flawlessly. After Jiwoong took his spot, it was Matthew's turn. Everyone gasped as he walked out in matching clothes as Jiwoong's. Looking so pretty in his styled locks, in his blushing face and that billion dollar smile which hooked his best friend since day one. He looked like a portion of the bright sky in that azure fit. His smile being the sunlight making it glow. Hanbin cheered with everyone when he stood before Jiwoong, before the alter, with the pastor right by their sides. It was a heavenly moment. Of the vow about to be made.
And then there's the music and the radiant violinist. Hanbin's eyes would follow both- the alter where vows and rings were being exchanged, also where the ethereal music was being played. He felt so many things at once, that it made him teary. He watched as his friend was called to kiss his partner and then, as a husband, Jiwoong kissed Matthew.
And Hanbin let those tears drop. He couldn't help it, he was just so happy! People around him nudged and teased him, he couldn't stop. His makeup was probably runied, but he didn't care. His heart was filled with joy.
It took him a while to freshen up, do a touch up and then go to meet his friends again. The cocktail hour had already started, the guests were moving and talking. Jiwoong and Matthew both wanted to spend time with their guests so they joined. Hanbin walked to them, congratulated them with big, warm hugs. He had done that before, as afterwards they took photos and all. But it's not the same. He still couldn't believe his friend was married.
"So, whom did you find?" Jiwoong asked, honestly just teased his friend, "You told me you'll look for a man?"
"Do I even have the time?" Hanbin joked, not wanting to admit that his head had been occupied with a face, a single, simple 'Hello'.
"But there are so many people." Matthew said. "Not even one?"
Hanbin shrugged. He wanted to change the topic but more guests came to talk to the grooms so he was kinda put aside.
That's when he saw the pretty guy from before not that far from them. Hanbin slowly walked towards him. He had a glass of wine in his hand, not really sipping, just holding it and talking to random people. Hanbin knew they were complimenting him for the stunning performance from before. As he went near and waited for them to finish, Zhang Hao noticed him.
"Oh, hey there. Hanbin, am I right?"
"Yeah." He smiled, "You remember?"
"We've chatted over this. Of course I do." Hao smiled, "You're looking gorgeous."
"Thanks." Wow. Why did it send chills down his spine? "You too." He managed to say before it gets awkward. He wanted to say more, but, well, let's not make him creepy. Hao, however, chuckled at that. It was exactly the way Hanbin imagined. Beautiful, cheerful and contagious. He found himself smiling too. And maybe that was the icebreak they needed. Because soon, the two began talking and walking together, for a long time before Hanbin was called again for the dinner.
Of course, he was the best man after all.
So they gathered for dinner, Hanbin joined the head table, sat by his friend. He immediately noticed which table Hao took. Skipping two tables from there, on the right corner, who had his team joining him. Maybe he stared for too long, because Matthew asked him over Jiwoong, "So it's Hao hyung, isn't it?"
"Hm?" Jiwoong looked at his husband in question.
"I get you though. Hao hyung's popular even now, after he graduated."
"The violinist?" Jiwoong asked. Hanbin denied. But his eyes still found Hao who was laughing and talking to his table mates.
They didn't get to explore on the topic much, as the formal dinner began. Hanbin's focus went to the speech he was practicing in his head. It was quirky but also sincere. After the meal, as he stood up and delivered that flawlessly, the guests laughed and cried. Jiwoong secretly patted his back, and held Matthew's hand under the table when it got emotional. He felt grateful that someone like Hanbin is his best friend, who wouldn't hesitate to stand by him through thick and thin.
Once he sat down, everything aside, Matthew joked, "I saw Hao hyung wipe his eyes. You did a great job, Hanbin hyung."
Grinning and blushing, Hanbin secretly glanced at that particular table. He saw Zhang Hao looking at him. And when their eyes locked, he got two thumbs up. Gosh! Was that a wedding or a venue to choose your date? Either way, he didn't complain.
Because during the send off, as Hao reached Jiwoong and Matthew to say his goodbyes after wishing them well, Hanbin who stood not so far away came to accompany them. Matthew asked how he'd be going back, Zhang Hao replied that he had someone picking him up. It was supposed to end that way, but Hanbin insisted that he would escort the violinist out to his pick point.
"He's really setting up his own wedding next." Jiwoong whispered to Matthew's ears who laughed it away. Honestly, he couldn't think about anything else, just the fact that Jiwoong spent all those stages with him- being a friend, a boyfriend, a fiancé and now, an eternal partner, a husband. It's unreal, if you ask me. Or him. Or anyone who went through the same.
Hanbin didn't get to talk much as the way out was short. He did ask though, who's the one picking him up.
"Your partner?" He had asked. Zhang Hao only mysteriously laughed, "Why? Are you curious if I'm single or not?"
Hanbin tried not to gush over how cute he looked asking that. He played it cool, shrugging, "Just being courteous."
"Sure." Hao said, as if he hadn't caught all those stealing glances. He got those a lot. Always. But something was there in Hanbin, a connection he felt since the greeting. He's handsome and intelligent and kind and polite. A gentleman indeed.
"Oh, there he is." Hao waved at an expensive looking car. He. Hanbin thought. A boyfriend then, maybe.
"Thanks for seeing me off, Hanbin. I'll see you later." Hao bowed, with the violin neatly protected in its case. Hanbin bowed back, waiting for him to get in the car as it drives away. He didn't know why it felt like that- empty and disappointing. He still waved though. To Hao and also the one driving the car, a red haired, strikingly gorgeous man. Of course, Hao would date one of the finest men. He deserved that much, at least. But the car didn't drive off. Hanbin stood there in confusion as it stood still for a few good seconds.
He thought to knock and ask, but really, he could just wait. Or even go back, but he wanted to send the violinist off properly. To make sure that he's safe and-
Zhang Hao got out of the car again. A small chit in his hand. He leaped at Hanbin and gave him the chit, then with a smile, and a wink maybe (?) Got back on. This time, the tinted windows were lowered, both Hao and the red haired man bowed him bye as the car finally drove off.
Hanbin let out a sigh, but curiously unfolded the chit. His lips spread into a smile as he read.
'Here's my number, Mr. Sexy. And yes, I'm currently single ;) The dude driving is my cousin. So call me if you want <3'
Never, never in Hanbin's life did some stupid sequence of numbers make him so damn happy as he felt looking at the scribbled contact of a man who had him good at one single hello!
