Poncho

Summary:

Cal finds a dead guy.

Prauf does not approve of what he does next, but Cal's too stubborn to do anything else.

Notes:

I was meant to post this yesterday... Oh well! You have it today instead.

Wednesday Prompt: “We shouldn’t be doing this.” + Ponchos = Cal steals a poncho from a dead guy, Prauf is mildly (extremely) concerned.

This is another fic of mine that is (yet again) doubling for my Star Wars Fictober prompt list, which is why it says it's inspired.

Work Text:

When Cal felt the poncho for the first time, his first thought was stars, this is so comfortable !

Anything else he would have thought was interrupted by Prauf.

“Cal, we shouldn’t be doing this,” Prauf said nervously, glancing around.

Cal shrugged. “I need a poncho. This guy just happens to have one.”

“ Cal , he’s dead .”

“He doesn’t need it anymore,” Cal said, tugging the material over the dead guy’s head and holding it up to look at it properly. “Look, Prauf! This is way better than mine.”

Cal did care about his morals. Back when he was a padawan, he never would have even thought about touching a dead body. But he wasn’t a padawan anymore. It was kill or be killed, so to speak.

Cal hadn’t killed this guy, of course. He didn’t even know him. But karabast, he needed a new poncho. Bracca was extremely cold- way too cold for him to go running around with the tattered old thing he had been wearing.

He slipped the poncho over his head, trying not to gag at the faint rotting smell coming from it. He spun in a circle once. “Good as new.”

Prauf looked like he was going to be sick. “You know if you needed a new poncho I could’ve spotted you one…”

Cal’s smile fell off his face instantly. “Prauf, I’m not going to take credits from you.”

“It wouldn’t be-”

“I’m not gonna do it.” Cal said sharply. “I am making my own money, I appreciate you offering, but I’m on my own . I don’t need your help, I don’t want to take your money.”

“Well… I don’t use mine, I could just…” Prauf trailed off at the look on Cal’s face. “Alright, alright. You’re actually going to keep that poncho?”

“No reason not to, right? Sure, it’s not the best smelling, but nothing a couple days of wearing it won’t change,” Cal spun around again and bounced up and down on his toes a couple times. The poncho stayed firmly secured. It passed. “See? Good quality.”

Prauf sighed heavily and nodded.
