Work Text:
Lisa carefully ran her fingers over the stitching she had just finished, feeling them to make sure they were straight enough. She was slowly becoming used to her blindness, finding ways to still do the things she liked without being able to see. She was still getting used to doing any form of sewing without her eyes but her husband assured her that she was getting better with each passing day. He promised that he wasn’t just saying this because he was her husband but she still had her doubts.
Speaking of her husband…
She lifted up her head when she heard the front door opening and then closing. Standing up, she made her way over to the front of their home, using her hands to help navigate her way. “You’re home later than usual,” she said once she reached him, hugging him close.
“How do you know that?” the Creature asked.
“I can feel it. You’re home later than usual,” she said. She knew she was right when she heard him laugh and she smiled as he walked with her back to the living room, guiding her back into her favorite chair. “Where did you go after work?”
“To the jewelry store. An order I had placed was finally ready,” he said, watching as Lisa sat down. He knelt down in front of her and took her left hand, carefully slipping a ring onto her finger. “I wanted you to have a proper ring,” he said.
Lisa blinked, lifting up her hand to run her fingers over the ring. She perked up when she felt multiple stones set into it, tilting her head to the side. “Oh? I thought wedding rings only had diamonds set in them!”
“It’s more than that,” he said, watching as her fingers touched the gems he had specially chosen to be set into the yellow gold of the ring. “It’s an acrostic ring.”
Lisa gasped and made a face. “A crusty ring!?”
He laughed, shaking his head before he took her hand into his own. “Acrostic. They were popular when I… when I was alive the first time.” He cleared his throat, guiding her free hand back to the first stone. “The first letter of each stone’s name spells out a word. Do you wish to guess what yours says?”
Lisa nodded her head. “Help me,” she said.
The Creature guided her hand over the stones, naming them as they were touched, “Beryl, emerald, lapis lazuli, opal, vermarine…”
“What the hell is vermarine?” Lisa asked with a frown, wrinkling her nose.
“It’s a type of green quartz.”
“Oh. Continue, please.”
“Emerald and diamond,” he finished. He watched as Lisa mulled it over, trying to figure out what word he had spelled out with the gems in her wedding ring. He smiled to himself as she pursed her lips in deep concentration.
“Beryl… emerald… lapis, opal, vermarine…” Lisa muttered, rubbing the gems as if they would reveal their secrets to her. “…emerald and diamond… Fuck this is… Oh! It’s ‘beloved’!” she gasped when she found the answer.
The Creature threw his arms around her middle, burying his face against her as he smiled and nodded his head. “My beloved wife,” he purred.
Lisa smiled, running her fingers through his hair as he stayed knelt on the ground in front of her chair. “My sentimental husband,” she hummed.
