Summary:

Izuku's feelings when he laid eyes on Katsuki.

Notes:

This is just something I wanted to put out here because I wanted to finally do something on this account. I wanted to add the omega verse aspect but that's not really the focus on it. Izuku and Katsuki are not mated, just bonded, as they hadn't confessed to each other yet. My favorite flavor of angst. Have fun reading it!!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"For of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: 'It might have been!'"

Grief was familiar. From a young age Midoriya Izuku had known the feeling very intimately, starting with his quirklessness. Or at least, that’s what he thought. But as he stared at the ground splattered with blood in horror, he was so so wrong.

Everything seemed to freeze. The rain was falling in slow motion and his heart seemed to beat faster and faster. He could hear some of the heroes surrounding who he was staring at calling his name, telling him to ‘snap out of it’. But he didn’t acknowledge them. His lips trembled as he blinked furiously, praying to whatever was out there listening that this was all a dream. A lie . Anyone who was near him could smell his pheromones slowly turning acrid, the usual calming earthy pine and rainy scent turned into the scent of thunderstorms and the raging ocean destroying everything in its way. Every omega and beta near him, even a few alphas, cringed away. The alpha in Izuku was howling with pain and horror.

The source of his horror lay feet away, Bakugou Katsuki. The omega laying in his own puddle of blood. His chest seemingly caved in from the hole that resides disgustingly in the middle of it. Izuku tried to sniff the air, tried to catch even a whiff of the caramel apple scent that was so comforting for the alpha. But the man could not catch anything. Even though the omega lay a few feet away, Izuku could not catch his scent. Which could only mean one thing, his omega was dead.

The alpha choked on his breath as he stumbled back. His omega. Kacchan . The source of everything good in his world was gone. Just a while ago his Kacchan was alive and as bright as ever, like a shooting star.

‘If you had never been separated, our omega would be alive.’ Izuku’s alpha roared in rage in his mind. Tears fell down his face. His alpha was fighting its way to the surface. And Izuku, in shock, let it.

The alpha screamed, shocking the heroes who weren’t currently fighting.  He took shaky steps towards his omega, roughly shoving away those surrounding Kacchan. He took the blond into his arms, the alpha crooning desperately, hoping for any response from the man below him. He tried to wipe away the soot and blood that was all over his pale face with one of his shaky hands. Red eyes stared dully up into the cloudy sky.

“Please Kacchan, look at me baby. Please ,” the alpha sobs. No response. The alpha tries to rub his scent gland with the omega’s. He sobs harder when he can’t feel anything. Izuku clutches the blond close, burying his face into the matted blond hair.  Suddenly, the alpha picks up the sound of cackling. Teary eyes slitted in rage turn around to stare at Shigaraki laughing darkly with his eyes on the alpha and omega. Izuku growls lowly.

“I found your weakness.” The white haired alpha grins maniacally. Izuku snarls. Some of the other heroes begin to fight the white haired man, giving Izuku a chance to go back to the still omega in his arms. Izuku looks down and memorizes everything about the omega. The familiar curve of his nose, the blond wispy eyelashes, the plump red lips that were now cracked, things he memorized in more peaceful nights in his dorm room.

The alpha’s despair becomes too much. It starts to turn into rage. Burning rage, white hot like lava, that he feels he can’t contain any longer. The alpha gently lays the omega down, kissing his forehead reverently one last time as Izuku croons gently. The alpha looks up then and stands up. Black whip lashes out dangerously, the alpha’s face set in a snarl as he sets his sight on Shigaraki who is currently fighting off the others.

‘I’ll kill him. I’ll kill them all.’ Izuku thinks with no remorse, and his inner alpha agrees with satisfaction.

Notes:

hoped you liked it :) I wasn't really interested in all of the fighting that followed after, but the canon events do follow. I just wanted to focus on the feelings when Izuku found Katsuki.
