Out of ALL the adventures they could have gone on, out of EVERYTHING that Caine could have cooked up. It had to be this. Of course it HAD to be the ‘adventure’ where a literal monster truck was chasing them down with its maw wide open ready to tear into them like it did th everything else in its path!
“DOES THIS THING EVER GIVE UP!” Pomni quickly shouted as she ran as fast as her legs could let her desperately trying to keep up with the rest of the pack
Zooble who had recently been reduced to nothing but a head and their two antennae due to their take apart and put back together nature shouted back with a growl from Kinger’s hands “CLEARLY NOT!”
Ragatha, looking around in a panic, quickly called out “THERE!” using her one finger she pointed to a car. It was rusty, any paint it had long since faded at least made to look like it faded but a car was a car! Better than running on foot from that thing!
Jax quickly ran ahead to open the passenger seat sliding in with his usual smirk leaning back to relax. “Come on! We don’t got all daaaay!” He called out in a sing-song tone looking back a smidge.
Ragatha quickly ran up to the car then looked to the group before she looked at Gangle “You’re the best driver here Gangle.Can you drive us out of here?” She gave a smile trying to hype up the ribbon girl the best she could.
Gangle nodded, wiping an oversized tear as she quickly got to the driver’s seat buckling herself in which just compressed that part to the seat. Not that she minded better than being flung out the car. She looked back to see the rest of the group now in the backseats. Ragatha had already put her seatbelt on but the others not so much. Pomni was trying to calm herself down, Kinger spaced out and Zooble. Well, Zooble didn’t have their body right now so she couldn’t blame them for that.
“Well? Get going, Gangle!” Jax suddenly barked impatiently, patting the back of the masked ribbon’s seat. Though to his annoyance Gangle shook her head.
“I have to make sure it has gas. While I do that you all can put on your seatbelts. We’re not going until we’re all buckled up. Minus you Zooble but someone should probably hold onto you just to be safe.” Gangle meekly spoke before she turned back squinting at the dashboard gently running a ribbon over a few things to help keep her place as she read.
Jax was about to say something but the loud honk of a roar the monstrous truck had stopped which then allowed Zooble to quickly shout out their antennae quickly shaking in annoyance and anger “CAINE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT GAS IS JUST DRIVE!”
“Oh right. Then is everyone buckled up?” Gangle then looked back, moving her ribbon back to the wheel. Ragatha gently tapped Pomni causing her to snap back to reality. With a soft gesture to the seatbelt the jester put on the seatbelt with Kinger following and taking hold of Zooble’s head. They let out a groan but didn’t protest beyond that.
Then that just left Jax who was still leaning back impatient tapping his fingers on the arm rest “What. Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Put on your seatbelt.” Gangle replied.
“SEATBELT! WE’RE BEING CHASED JUST START DRIVING!”
“The car won’t start until everyone’s seat belts are on.”
“GAAAH FINE!” The rabbit quickly slammed on the seat belt and then pointed. “NOW DRIVE!”
Gangle simply did as told slowly putting her foot to the gas to let the car speed up at a reasonable rate all the meanwhile the snarls and chomping of the monster truck behind them slowly grew quieter. At least until the car went slower.
Pomni was the first to speak up “Uhm why are we slowing down?”
“It said there was a speed bump ahead.” Gangle simply replied as she kept her eyes glued to the road ahead of her.
“Seriously? A speed bump?” Zooble replied with clear anger in their voice as the car slowly went up a bit then down then up a bit again then down once more.
“I just wanted to be safe.” Gangle sadly replied as she then sped up once more.
“Hey, it’s ok Gangle I'm glad you care about us to do all that.” Ragatha quickly said in hopes of lightening any stress off the group. “Better safe than sorry!” She let out a somewhat forced laugh as she swung her arm across her body a bit.
Gangle wiped a few more tears as she focused on driving, there was a small moment where Gangle struggled to find the turn signal but it went mostly smoothly and more importantly quickly.
“Not again.Gangle why are we slowing down now!” Jax quickly huffed as he looked to the ribbons in the driver’s seat.
“The speed limit said it was 45 miles per hour. I can go a little over but-”
“THE SPEED LIMIT SERIOUSLY! WHO CARES ABOUT THE SPEED LIMIT!” Jax quickly shouted, making Gangle flinch back a little.
“I don’t want us to get in trouble. Especially when the last time I drove recklessly we-”
“ARE YOU STILL ON ABOUT THAT!”
“But this is the first time I brought it up?” Gangle looked over to Jax to which a piece of rubble on the road startled her making her focus back on the road with a small startled noise.
Ragatha, being the peacekeeper she was, attempted to help keep tempers at bay “Jax come on she’s just trying to be safe! You can’t blame her for that!”
“She’s gonna get us KILLED if she doesn’t hurry up!” Zooble spoke up squinting as their antenna shook.
“Exactly what Mix-n-Match is saying! Gangle move over! I'm driving!” The rabbit quickly shoved Gangle as he unbuckled his seat belt. Now standing he placed his hands on the wheel and yanked it causing the car to quickly turn.
Gangle freaked out trying to grab the wheel from Jax to drive back onto the road as the honking of the monster truck grew closer. It was a bad struggle that led to the two crashing the car. Which was quickly consumed by the monster truck after everyone crawled out.
With the car gone the group was left to walk the rest of the way. It took what felt like hours of walking, sometimes running from the monster truck before they finally reached their destination of the last few survivors. To say none of them cared about getting there beyond just wanting to go home was an understatement. As soon as the portal finally opened up, they all quickly rushed in.
And just like always Caine was there to greet them with his usual loud over the top voice. “WELCOME BACK MY SHINING SEASHELLS! YOU ALL WERE THERE LONGER THAN EXPECTED! I GUESS THAT MEANS YOU LOVED THE ADVENTURE!” Caine’s shout was only met by groans of exhaustion. “UH. I SEE OUR FRIEND ZOOBLE LOST THEIR BODY ALLOW ME!” The floating ringmaster snapped and Zooble was back with their full body.
“@$(#)$# finally.” Zooble grumbled as they walked off leaving the other 5 to stew in their own tiredness.
“WELL SINCE YOU ALL LOVED THE ADVENTURE YOUR REWARD IS!” Caine pointed and suddenly a toy car appeared in all of their hands. “A TOY CAR FOR EACH OF YOU! NOW HAVE A GOOD DAY!” and just like that Caine was gone.
No one kept the toy cars for long.
