Work Text:
Anali had just found his way to this college and was assigned a room to stay in… to be completely honest; he was terrified to meet his roommate. What would they be like? Would they be a bitch? Well… if that was the case they could be bitches together. Maybe… yeah.
It was more of a hope that Anali would like his roommate than that his roommate would like him. He was very picky and didn’t trust people at all. He definitely had good reason to. His life was terrible, even before the apocalypse. So… yeah.
He opened the door and looked inside the room to see his roommate and… well, they were just twirling around the room putting posters up, seemingly humming along to some kind of tune. They hadn’t seemed to have noticed his presence yet.
Anali raised an eyebrow. “Hello?” he said simply.
The girl turned around, and her face lit up. “A new face!” she said. She quickly put down the posters and skipped over, holding her hand out. “I’m Angelina. I’m assuming you're my new roommate that I’ve heard about from Ruben. Another girl!” she smiled.
“Uh… not exactly? I’m genderfluid and a boy right now. I’m a girl most of the time, but not today,” Anali scratched the back of his head. “So I guess it depends on what you mean…”
Lina tilted her head a little. “Ahh, cool, cool,” she said, pointing down at the blue bracelet on his wrist. “Is that what the bracelets are for?”
“Wait, huh? How did you guess?” he said, eyes slightly widened.
“I’m psychic,” she said smugly.
“More like psychotic…” Anali said under his breath.
“What was that?” Angelina said with a raised eyebrow.
“Nothing.” Anali shrugged.
“Okay…. anyway, that’s impressive, I like it!” Angelina said with a smile. “And… if you don’t mind me asking,” she pointed a little lower at his hand. “What happened to your finger? Or… lack of finger.”
“Some motherfuckers cut it off because they wanted shit I didn’t have…” he rolled his eyes. “It’s whatever. Makes me a badass.”
Lina snorted a bit, amused by the small child swearing in front of them. “Whatever floats your weird little boat.”
“My boat is perfectly normal, thank you very much,” Anali tried to say in a playful tone of voice, but it sounded rude as hell.
“Mhmm, whatever you say,” she smiled. The girl turned around, looking at the mess of posters around her, “Sorry about the mess. I’ll try to keep to my side of the room,” she chuckled weakly.
“You’re not going to say ‘You’re too young to know!’ or anything like that…?” Anali looked up at her, a little confused. “That’s what everyone says…”
Angelina started to pick up her posters, throwing them onto her bed, “Hm? No… Why ever would I say something like that?” she chuckled, “Sounds silly... Speaking of, you still haven’t told me your name.”
“Uh… It’s Anali. You can call me Ana, but don’t call me Li please. I don’t like it,” he crossed his arms. “Got it?”
“Got it, chief!” she winked jokingly. “You can call me Lina. Considering how we’re going to be around each other a lot, you don’t seem like you’d get tired of me quickly.”
“I don’t know about that,” Anali said under his breath once more. This person seemed too happy-go-lucky and not someone he’d get along with at all. But… time would tell.
“Well, you’re stuck with me now,” she giggled and turned back to the clutter on her bed.
“I could just up and leave this place.” Anali looked around. “Not that I would but I could.”
Angelina continued to organize the mess. “Yeah, you could.” she sighed, “But maybe this place is what you need… Or whatever…” Facing him, he continued, “Your choice, but that side of the rooms looks kinda empty, don't ya think?”
“I’ve never stayed in one place for too long so I dunno,” he sighed. “Might be a nice change of pace I guess.”
“No guessing!” Angelina pivoted to face him. “I only know things around here, or that kind of sounded smarter in my head. Hmm,” she spaced out slightly. “Well… anywho, can you choose one for me!” she held up two posters. One with a large black cat on it and another which seemed like a band of some sort. “You’re my new roomie so I think you get a choice in this.”
“I’m a dog person so no cats… do whatever the band is.” Anali pointed at it. “Seems like a good addition.”
Lina’s face contorted, “No cats?!” she slumped dramatically onto the floor, “Woe is me for I hath been paired with one for such disdain for the Felis Catus”.
“Are you okay?” Anali cocked his head, a little weirded out by the dramatics. “That was a bit much… I uh… yeah.”
She smirked, “Yeaaah, I’ll survive.” The girl brushed herself off and flopped onto her bed, “You gonna decorate your side?”
“I just got here,” Anali stared at them, standing straight. “So it’s not like I have anything to put up.”
“Well… chopchop” she hopped up, “No time like the present eh?”
Anali shrugged. “I guess I could go to the old music hall and see if there’s anything there… I used to play the violin. We had one at the camp before my parents and I started moving from place to place.”
“Oh my god, music?” Lina perked up. “You can play the violin… ohohoh, this is perfect eeeek, I’ve got to show you the theatre. In fact- have you had a tour yet?”
“No I haven’t… I just got shown where my room was and like… yeah,” Anali scratched the back of his head. “You could give me one if you want. I don’t care.”
“Well you’re definitely gonna care about this,” Lina skipped forward and offered her hand out, “Coming?”
He sighed, “Yep!” and followed them.
Maybe this place would be good… just maybe.
