In the bustling city of Yokohama, the name "The Clairvoyant" was synonymous with brilliance and deduction. Renowned for his unparalleled intellect and deductive prowess, he was a figure shrouded in mystery and revered by all who knew him. But behind the scenes, The Clairvoyant led a quiet life with his wife, a woman of equal intellect, and their only child, Ranpo.
From a young age, Ranpo showed signs of inheriting his parents' genius. With an insatiable curiosity and a mind that absorbed knowledge like a sponge, he was a prodigy in the making. His parents, unfazed by the challenges of raising a child of such extraordinary intelligence, nurtured his talents with care and devotion.
But tragedy struck when Ranpo was still a boy. In a cruel twist of fate, his parents were taken from him in a sudden accident, leaving him alone in the world with no one to rely on. The loss was devastating, and Ranpo found himself adrift in a sea of grief and confusion.
It was then that, Fukuzawa took Ranpo in as an orphan twelve years ago. Fukuzawa first met Ranpo after running into him on a job where Fukuzawa was working as a bodyguard for a CEO's murder. Ranpo came into the room where Fukuzawa was meeting the late CEO's secretary, looking for a job, and continued to ramble before offhandedly remarking that the secretary killed the CEO. Fukuzawa, impressed by Ranpo's ability to solve the case immediately, took Ranpo to a restaurant as he had promised earlier.
Over the years, Ranpo and Fukuzawa formed a bond that transcended mere mentorship. Though their relationship was often characterised by Fukuzawa's exasperation at Ranpo's unconventional methods and Ranpo's penchant for mischief, there was an undeniable warmth and mutual respect between them.
They stayed together for a while, Fukuzawa going to missions where he acted as a bodyguard (and ultimately not needing to protect anyone due to Ranpo solving the threat beforehand), and Fukuzawa accompanying Ranpo on cases. However, it didn't take long before Fukuzawa realised that Ranpo was brilliant but weak, and thus he needed someone to protect him while he solved crimes. While Fukuzawa could do so, he knew there would come a time where he could not, so he established the Armed Detective Agency who could protect Ranpo at all times while they, led by Ranpo, solved crimes and cases throughout Yokohama.
As the anniversary of his parents' death approached, Ranpo found himself struggling with memories of the past and the weight of his grief. Fukuzawa, ever perceptive, noticed the change in his young ward and offered his support in any way he could.
"Ranpo," Fukuzawa said one evening, his voice gentle but firm, "I know this time of year is difficult for you. But remember, you're not alone. I'm here for you, always."
Ranpo looked up, his eyes brimming with unshed tears. "Thank you, Fukuzawa-san," he murmured, his voice choked with emotion. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
Fukuzawa placed a reassuring hand on Ranpo's shoulder. "You're stronger than you realize, Ranpo. And your parents would be proud of the person you've become."
With Fukuzawa's words echoing in his mind, Ranpo felt a glimmer of hope stir within him. Though the pain of loss would never truly fade, he knew that with Fukuzawa by his side, he could face whatever challenges the future held.
And as they sat together in quiet reflection, the bond between mentor and ward grew even stronger, a beacon of light in the darkness of grief.
