Chapter Text
Prologue:
“So, he found a big business opportunity in Colombia and I’m going with him, I’ve quit my practice, since I have enough money in my bank account to last me until I can get a job there, but don’t worry, I’ve already gotten your emancipation processed and the house is in your name, so you can stay there and continue your studies, goodbye Nina, I hope you live by what I taught you” Ana kissed her daughter in the forehead and walked away, not sparing a glance to the teenager who collapsed on the ground of the diner, sobbing, after all, Ana Valparaíso doesn’t hesitate, not even when abandoning her only child.

When Nina went home after that unfortunate interaction, she grabbed her clothes, dumped them all on the balcony, set them on fire and watched it burn, down to the last scrap of fabric, and cried quite a bit, before the ash got swept up in the wind and flew away, making the girl think of the remnants of who she was disappearing as she became someone new. Because she was done, done caring about what other people thought of her, done relying on people who did nothing but let her down, done being a walking encyclopedia for everyone, she was so, so tired, but things were about to change.

After burning her clothes and calming down a bit, she ordered contact lenses online, because she was also done with her glasses, which tended to break a lot, she also packed up all her jewelry, accessories and shoes and got a cab to go downtown and look for a pawn shop to sell her jewelry and a thrift store for her accessories and shoes, afterwards, she took the money she made and bought a whole new closet at that same thrift store
She then bought some spray paint and headed down to the abandoned skate park a few blocks away to let off some steam, having changed into some beat up jeans and a hoodie that she bought, she pulled the hood over her head, lest she get seen by any police officer passing by before she could run away, but when she got close to the wall she planned to paint some not very kind words on, she spotted another person there, about two heads taller than her, with shoulder length brown hair, wearing a black hoodie and matching jeans
“Hey, I’m Luís, is this your first time here?” The boy questioned
“I’m sorry, what?” She frowned
“It’s just, me and my friends hang out here a lot, and I’ve never seen you before, so I was wondering” he shrugged
“It’s none of your business, leave me alone” she bit back
“Oh, Princess has some fire in her, I like it” he smirked, elbowing her side, a mistake, as she had him pinned to the ground before he could utter another word, with his arms behind his back and her knee on his spine
“Don’t fucking touch me” she ordered
“Will you be my new best friend?” He asked
She blinked twice, bewildered by his question “what the hell?”
“My friends are all softies, we really need someone with some more bite in them to join the group” he explained
She thought it over for a bit, then shrugged and said “sure, why not?” before helping him up, and he proceeded to spend the rest of the afternoon teaching her how to spray paint, they got dinner in town, and afterwards she let him crash on her couch, because why not? Since all she cared about in that house were clothes anyways, he couldn’t steal anything of importance
She was almost falling asleep, when she remembered what caused all the events of this crazy day, and the dam broke. Her sobs were so loud that Luís heard and came upstairs, seeing her state he immediately jumped to comfort her, and they ended up falling asleep like that, cuddled up with each other, which indicated an interesting beginning for the first day of her new life.
