Work Text:
I have spent years introducing myself as “Buck”. It started in the fire academy as an easy way to stand out from the other Evan’s in my class and it's just stuck ever since then. When my parents say my name there is always a touch of venom with it. When Bobby, Maddie, and Eddie use my real name I know it's to drill the point home but it's just different when Tommy says it.
There is an “Evan” for when I am rambling on about something because I am nervous. It’s not said with exasperation, instead it is said with a level of fondness I don’t see very often.
There is an “Evan” that Tommy uses when he is trying to get my attention when my head is clearly elsewhere.
There is an “Evan” that is used specifically to let me know I am pushing his buttons.
There is an “Evan” that is filled with adoration, another one filled with joy.
There is a breathy whine of “Evan” when I have teased him too far
Tommy even has a special “Evan” that will have me tripping over my feet to follow any instructions because the reward is worth it.
Anyone else would probably tell me that most “Evan’s” that come from Tommy’s lips sound the same, but that's just because they don’t listen well enough.
Tommy never says my name in anger or with any malice. Instead, he says it in ways that fill me with warmth and makes me feel giddy. Every. Single. Time.

Tommy is coming over for pizza and beers tonight. A simple date night with no expectations besides great company (and some kisses if I have it my way).
Tommy arrives five minutes early per usual with the pizza in hand. We make our way to the couch, Tommy with the pizza, myself the beers.
“I missed you” I say before I kiss his cheek just to see Tommy blush.
“I missed you, too,” Tommy says. Before sensually kissing me and smirking when he leaves me breathless.
We settled in to watch some baking competition while chatting about our week and eating our pizza before it got cold. Suddenly Tommy turns towards me with a very serious look on his face
“I have noticed that nearly everyone in your life calls you “Buck” with the exception of myself. Do you want me to call you “Buck” instead of “Evan”?
“No, I love it when you call me Evan, it feels nice… actually it feels right. Like it is meant to fall from your lips only. I started going by “Buck” in the fire academy because there were too many Evan’s and I just kinda kept using it. Please don’t feel like you need to stop calling me Evan.”
“Like it was only meant to fall from my lips, huh?” Tommy jokingly asks with the biggest smile I have ever seen. I lean in to kiss that smile, I don’t want it to disappear I just want to better appreciate it, after all it’s my turn to leave him breathless.
Tommy ends up breaking the kiss in desperate need of air. When he finally catches his breath I hear my new favorite version of “Evan”, one that sounds both like a prayer and a curse, one that I never want to stop hearing.
