Chapter 1: Odile Teaches Siffrin the Middle Finger

“Aaaah, good. I will say, I don’t think it’ll be much use in battle. Supposedly it once had something to do with archery, but the rest has been lost, so it should be fine. I suppose that it really frustrated those on the receiving end though—don’t make this sign in Mwudu, got it? Consider it a nonverbal means of calling someone a crab—don’t look at me like that, if I can’t take it, what right do I have to sass people? Now then, like this.” She held up just her middle finger.Siffrin copied her.
She couldn’t help but grin. “Scandalous. I am such a horrible influence.”
He mimicked the sign with his other hand as well and Odile couldn’t help but laugh.
“Yes! Just like that! You learn fast.”

Siffrin huffed, puffing his cheeks out. “It’s not my fault they make half the city invisible…”“… do they not have glass where you’re from?” Bonnie said.
“We do??? It’s just not this shiny…” Siffrin said, wyes narrowed at the storefront like it offended him. “I can kinda see it now…”
“If it’s shiny, shouldn’t it be easier to see???” Mira said.
“Probably???” Siffrin said. “But it’s all kinda… blending?” He looked between the rest of them, still dark faced. “… is it just me?”
“It is shiny bud. Super shiny. The shiniest,” Isabeau said. He would NOT let Siffrin feel sad about objective facts!
“Mm hmm! The absolute sparkliest!” Mirabelle added.
“We can still see though???” Bonnie said.
“Blinding- heh. Sorry, don’t worry about it. I’m just taking in the scenery!” Siffrin chirped.

“Wait… is that why you stick to shadows? Because it’s easier to see?” Mirabelle said.“I stick to the shadows???”
“I thought it was just a cool mysterious loner thing!”
Isabeau couldn’t help but snort. He reached over and lightly mussed up Siffrin’s hair.
