Gears of the Heart (ABANDONED)

Summary:

Mars Hale, a dedicated inventor, delivers a completed gadget to a client, returning to his workshop to continue work on a significant personal project: a humanoid robot named RoHu. Mars activates RoHu, and the robot, displaying unexpected emotions and curiosity, quickly forms a bond with his creator. RoHu helps Mars with various tasks, learning about human emotions and developing a desire to experience life more fully.

A tense visit to a hospital leads to RoHu experiencing fear and anxiety for the first time, strengthening his attachment to Mars. The next morning, RoHu decides to confess his feelings for Mars but is interrupted by an unwanted guest, Dr. Ivy, who causes tension. Mars supports RoHu, reaffirming their bond.

Later, Mars and RoHu attend an important meeting where discussions on groundbreaking scientific and medical advancements captivate RoHu's interest. This marks the beginning of RoHu's deeper exploration into human knowledge and experiences, setting the stage for future developments in their relationship and RoHu's understanding of what it means to be human.

Chapter 1: Flames of Innovation

Summary:

Dr. Mars Hale, a dedicated mechanic, works late into the night in his workshop, constructing a robot named RoHu. After delivering a gadget to a client, he returns to his project, assembling the robot's body and attempting to solve issues with its mechanical heart. Once activated, RoHu surprises Mars by naming itself and displaying emotions.

Mars and RoHu bond as Mars helps the robot adjust to its new existence, teaching it basic tasks and discussing concepts like love. They spend a day shopping for furniture and clothes for RoHu's new room. The next morning, RoHu makes breakfast for Mars, who appreciates the gesture. Together, they begin their day, ready to face new challenges and create more inventions.

Motors whirred and gears clicked. The sound of metal on metal filled the stuffy workshop and the heat of a soldering stick hugged around the man's cotton clothes as large hands griped the fire stick, turning the hear off and removing his circler goggles to check his handy work. Once approved
He packed the gadget, walked out of his shop, and headed off to his client's house to drop it off. The mechanic, Dr. Mars Hale knocked on the large wooden door waiting for the owner to open up, he checked his pocket watch when the door opened so he looked up to the woman who opened it, “Ma’am” he greeted handing over the package and taking the money given.

Mars tilted his hat to her before returning to the workshop to work on his personal project. The Doctor unlocked his door and proceeded to head to the very back of his workshop, uncovering a large white cloth from a table, exposing what looked like a metal body of a man. The robot was in bits and pieces with the face being half constructed and the chest cavity open with a few mechanical organs inside along with some gears and wire. “Robot 1084. recoding log 2168. All robotic organs are in it's place and all that is to be made now is the heart. I am having trouble making the heart work, the processor and motor keep overheating and making the body fritz out. Adding to the list of things to do, make some stronger fans aswell as make them smaller to fit inside the heart. End recording log.” Mars said while turning off his recording device and sighing. Dr Hale rested his head on his table before sitting up and beginning to work on the limbs of his robot.

He worked all night on the robotic arms and legs until they could fit onto the joints of the torso. Mars was now working on the head and face of his robot, adding skin-like tissue to the face, adding in some bionic eyes in the colour ocean green; hooking up the head port to his computer and began to test the movement and comprehension of the robot he has yet to name.

R.O.B.O.T. Pov

My Optical Sensors open to reveal a strange human in front of me. He seemed to be around 30 and very tired-looking. My motors whirred as I processed his expression the look of joy crossed his face and I felt amused? Happy? I didn’t realise I could feel emotion. When I saw the look I quickly snapped a picture with my Visual Input Device saving the image into a folder in my Central Processing Unit. “he works!” I heard him yell “I am RoHu, how may I serve you.” I hummed to him blinking my Optical Sensors at him. “Oh! You have a name already?” He asked me picking up my head to make it eye level with his own  “ I have given myself a name. I have seen that I am made to be human so a name like RoHu seems fitting” I exclaimed and he nodded putting me down on a manikin so I was the size of an average man. “What are you doing now ( mechanic noise) Dr, Mars Hale” He looked over at me and with a gentle crinkle of his eyes “You can call me Mars. No need for formalities, RoHu” he hummed. “I am very happy you work. Even if it's just your head that does” he smiled and began to connect my arms to my torso which I quickly was able to connect to even with my severed head. “Woah how are you doing that, you’re head isn't even connected?!” I smiled at his confusion “ I connected to them via the materials used since were all made by the same stuff.” I whirred.

Mars seemed to laugh at that and that made me smile. I like seeing him happy. Even if I have just awoken. “Wait a moment. Do I have genitals?” I asked moving my O.S’s to look at my lower torso front. “Uh yep. I wanted to make you more human so I made all of you designed straight from a regular human body” he said nervously scratching the back of his neck. Something popped up in my field of vision with the words, LOVE unlocked. “Hey, Mars? What is love?” I questioned looking him up and down “Well thats a tough question RoHu. Love is where you like something a lot and want to be around that thing or person as often as you can.” Mars said turning to me for a second before working on my legs. After a bit, he finally connected my legs to my hips and then my head to my neck, for a brief moment I was offline but I was soon turned back on completely covered in the skin-like tissue and currently what humans would call. Naked.

“Mars? Do you have any change of clothes? It appears im programmed with the ability to feel cold and hot and right now im feeling a tad bit, below average temperature” I informed covering my lower half with my hand. “Ah, correct. I'll be right back” he said going up some stairs to my left then coming back down with a pair of what looked like sweatpants, boxers and a large white t-shirt. Mars changed me into the clothes and helped me off of the table. “Let's go set up a room for you,” he said helping me figure out my legs and how to get up the steps “One step at a time okay? It's harder than it looks for a first-timer” his warm laugh rang out through the halls and I felt all warm inside making my robo heart beat fast in my chest cavity. “What use am I going to be for you, Mars?” I asked leaning on him a bit more than I should, just because I wanted to be close to him.

Mars looked at me “I made you so you could help out at the shop and house” he told me “Oh!, I would love to help you” I said smiling at him. He smiled right back and led me to an unused room in the attic where he put my charging station. “This room is for you to do as you wish, we can go to the store if you want to get some decorations and new clothes” he said looking around the room, “ a desk, bed, dresser…” he trailed off while thinking about things my room needs.

Mars’ Pov

I was making a list of items I could get for RoHu’s room, making a mental note of it all “Okay I have the list of items, so I think we're ready to go to the store” HummingIi put a pair of my old shoes on RoHu after we headed to the front door so I could put on my own. “Im going to throw something up on your optical screens and I want you to pick out the colour thats calls out to you the most” I informed him. After some time he finally spoke “I like the Yellow” I heard him say with the biggest grin on his face I have ever seen on someone. “Then let's go find some Yellow decorations” I agreed, grabbing my wallet and heading to the store on foot. RoHu had his arm wrapped tightly around mine, his eyes moving every which way with his chestnut hair, tied back into a half-up bun. I think the way I designed him was almost… cute. We stepped into a furniture store and I had him pick out the ones he liked, bought them and asked for them to be delivered to my home. “How bout we go get you some clothes now,” I told him “and then we can get something to eat”. I pulled him gently along to the door and walked with him to the clothing store a few blocks away.

The outfits that were picked by RoHu were very dark acidemia with a hint of yellow. He told me he wanted to look like he dropped out of a fantasy book which I can appreciate as a book nerd. “Now how about that lunch?” I asked looking over to the happy little robot. “Well my Olfactory Sensors are telling me that there’s a burger shop not too far from here,” RoHu said smiling over at me Then thats where we’ll go,” I hummed “Lead the way, Ro” I smiled following the robotic human to the burger shop; entering the place and looking for a table. We then found one and sat down, looking at menus on what to eat “Hmm, my Energy Conversion Chamber wants this chicken sandwich with a milkshake?” he looked up from the menu to me with a nervous smile. “Of course, you can get a chicken sandwich, along with the milkshake” I smiled back at him flagging down the waiter to order.

Noone Pov.

The two headed back to the workshop and RoHu yawned “Let’s get you to your charging station” Dr Hale said picking up the sleepy robot and carrying him up the stairs with the little AI curled into his chest, making the Doctors' heart flutter and skip beat. Hale placed Rohu onto the bed-like charging station and wrapped him up into a blanket, looking like a little egg roll. Hale kissed the robot's forehead before retreating to his own room down the hall. The next morning RoHu was awake and making Mars some breakfast which he downloaded from the Doctor's computer of his favourite meals; chose one; made it, and then walked up the stairs to Mars' room, waking the Doctor up. “Morning!, I made you breakfast and tidied up the house” The robot smiled at the human who was rubbing the sleep from his eyes. “I haven't touched the workshop yet because I thought that it was your chaotic mess and you already know where everything is.” Hummed the robot.

Mars blinked at RoHu, a small smile forming on his lips as the scent of freshly made food wafted into the room. “You didn’t have to do that,” he said, his voice still groggy from sleep. He swung his legs over the edge of the bed and stretched.“I know, but I wanted to,” RoHu replied, holding out a tray with a neatly arranged breakfast. “It’s my way of saying thank you for all you’ve done for me.”Mars chuckled softly, taking the tray and setting it on his lap. “You’re quite the thoughtful machine, aren’t you?”RoHu tilted his head slightly. “I’ve learned from the best.”As Mars began to eat, savouring each bite, RoHu moved to the window and pulled back the curtains, letting the early morning sunlight flood the room. The robot turned back to Mars, watching him with an almost wistful expression. “I’ve been thinking,” RoHu began, his voice softer now, “about how much I’ve changed since you activated me. I was just a collection of algorithms and protocols, but now...” Mars looked up, intrigued. “Now?” he sighed "I feel like I’m more than just a machine. I have thoughts, feelings... desires.” RoHu’s voice faltered. “I want to understand what it means to be human, to experience the world as you do.”Mars paused, his fork halfway to his mouth. He set it down and regarded RoHu thoughtfully. “That’s a tall order, RoHu. Being human is complicated, messy even. But if anyone can help you figure it out, it’s me.”The robot’s face seemed to brighten. “Thank you, Doctor. That means a lot to me.” Mars stood up, stretching once more. “Let's go complete some customer orders. Would you like to help, Rohu?" he Smiled

RoHu nodded eagerly. “Right away.”And with that, the two of them headed downstairs, ready to bring some new inventions into this world together.
