Chapter 1: The Fridge

Chapter Text

Tot Leo and Raph play a mishmash version of a board game on the floor. Different pieces from a variety of games come together in a free-for-all adventure. As Raphael moves his character forward with a hesitant hand, Leo chuckles ominously.

“Ha! I gotcha!” Leonardo ties a rubber band around his brother’s playing piece. “You fell into my trap!” He smirks, crossing his arms he lifts his chin high and proud.

“Aw, man!’’ The snapping turtle pouts his lips, glancing to the side.’’ Guess I now have to listen to one of your orders..”

“Go fetch me a drink!” He then whisks his new underling away with a wide arm movement.

In a grumble Raph stamps away.

“Stupid rule.. stupid Leo who made that rule..” He mumbles in defeat.

The snapping turtle makes his way through the living room, finding Donnie enjoying some science-y TV show. Enticed by gaining new knowledge, he didn’t even notice his brother entering.

“Hey, D.” With a sullen look, the red turtle drags his feet towards the kitchen.

“Hey.” The soft shell replies, sipping his drink. Missing the straw a few times due to his gaze being locked onto the screen.

“Ah.” Raphael pauses. “Say, have you seen Mikey? Maybe he wants to play Turtle Traps with us.”

Swallowing a mouth full of juice, Donnie murmurs: “Fridge.”

“He’s in the kitchen?”

“He said something about.. flying?”

“Flying?” Raph tilts his head.

“I don’t know. I wasn’t paying attention.”

“Urgh, nevermind.’’ Raph rolls his eyes. ‘’I’ll go check myself.”

Crossing the threshold of the kitchen, a familiar and excited voice reaches out to him.

“Hey, Raphie! Watch me!”

Not seeing his little brother right away, the small snapping turtle’s heartbeat rushes through his chest. Raphael’s eyes slowly scan upward, bit by bit, hoping he’s wrong to have heard it coming from above.  Though, when he spots Mikey, standing confidently on top of the fridge, he yelps.

“What are you doing on top of the fridge?!” Raphael points his shaking finger at the brash box shell in front of him.

A glimmer shines in the small turtle’s eye.

“I’m gonna fly!” He boasts, flapping his ‘’cape’’ in the air, which, in reality, is just an orange blanket.

“No, no, no! Stay put!” In a frantic panic, Raph calls out: “Donnie!”

“Ah, yeah, he said something about climbing, too.” A diminutive tone from the soft shell drifts into the kitchen.

“Get your shell over here! And grab some pillows!”

The demand from Raphael isn’t well received, as it gets an annoyed ‘’Urgh.’’ In return.

“Oh, Raph~. Where's my drink-“ A curious and impatient Leo drops into the kitchen, attracted by the commotion. Taking in the scene, he shares a serious look with Mikey: “Lil’ bro.”

“Hm?” The orange turtle crouches down to have a clearer vision of his brother.

Michael is greeted with a wide grin and a thumbs up. “You’re looking so cool right now!’’ With a slick motion, he directs two fingers in his little brother’s direction. ‘’And not just because you’re standing on a cold fridge~!” He winks.

“Aw, thanks, Leo!” Mikey blushes.

‘’Leo!’’ Raphael swiftly bonks his blue brother on the head. “Don’t encourage him!”

‘’I’m here with the pillows-’’ As Donnie joins the crew, he notices the bump on the slider’s forehead and sneers. ‘’Guess those pillows would’ve been handy earlier, huh, Leon?’’

‘’Hmph!’’ With one puffed cheek, the blue turtle gives no mind to the ill-intended comment- or so he led him to believe. ‘’You’re right, D. But they’ll come in handy now!’’

A dazed Donatello hums back puzzled, but doesn’t get any time to react to his pestering brother sweeping his leg.

‘’Ah!’’ Donnie drops his stack of pillows, crashing down on them. His very harsh backlash gets muffled.

‘’Leo! Will you take this seriously?!’’ Raph puffs out some air to vent his frustration and to make place for his more pressing concern. ‘’We need to get Mikey down safely..’’

‘’Tsk, tsk, tsk, Raphie.’’ The great Mikey shakes his finger. ‘’There’s no need to get me down!’’ He stretches his arm up high. ‘’Because I’m going to fly down!’’

After a short moment of silence, Donnie gets back on his feet. His gaze travels from Mikey, to the floor, back to his two bewildered brothers.

‘’Should I tell him or will you?’’
