Work Text:

It was a dreary day, and the music & theatre student was staring far and wide as if attempting to change the world he was stuck in. Dazai, his lifetime long partner, had witnessed this scene far too many times.

“Hey bud, everything alright?” Dazai spoke with such a soothing voice, that one may think he was talking to a lost child.

“Yea. My classmates are just acting up again, they don’t like any of my ideas at hate the jokes I make,” the man in question had replied, now directly staring at Dazai, “it’s as if they are trying to push all my nerves by hitting the places where it hurts the most. Please, I don’t know what to do anymore.”

Upon hearing the news, the younger paused in his tracks to start formulating a plan to act out on the kids that made his dear friend's life harder, until he noticed the state the friend in question was in. “Bud, it’s okay. I know this probably doesn’t mean much, but I like your jokes. I love them, please, those insolent children are just kids and can’t appreciate your marvellous and well-thought-out jokes.”

The second Dazai’s speech had ended, the other man had already burst into tears, grabbing Dazai’s back and bringing him in for a hug. “Do you really mean that, Dazai, that you like my jokes?” The man, Chuuya, had managed to choke out between sobs.

“Hey, don’t waste your voice on me, should I make you some tea, or perhaps coffee before your next class?” Dazai said with true admiration for the man in front of him who was now gripping onto him as if he was the only thing that existed in the world.

Chuuya, with his reddened eyes, had not mistaken the effort and decided to stop being a sobbing mess, as to not dirty his best friends jacket any more. “Thank you, so, so much Dazai,” Jake said with stars in his eyes, “just know, if it was you or the world, I’d pick you in a heartbeat.” However, despite Chuuya muttering that part out, he had miscalculated how close together he and his partner were, therefor allowing Dazai to hear what he had said.

“You can count on the fact that I would do the exact same for you, Chuuya.” Dazai had said with a reassuring tone in his voice, and pulled Chuuya closer together, to the point their noses could almost touch. “It’s you, before the world, Chuuya, always has been.”

“Do you remember when you said that?” Chuuya had screamed through sobs, recounting the bittersweet memory littering his mind. “Now look at you, having me burn so the world will learn, to keep your friends close but your enemies closer.” Chuuya continued to screech while clanking his shackles together.

Dazai felt appalled by the bringing of their past, back when they had snuck out to stay together, perhaps Chuuya was planning to pull on his heartstrings, yet that would not suffice. “Well, as you just said, I kept my friends close, but you, closer, because I knew that you were too powerful, that the world would come to an end if you didn’t stop learning and growing. I fear that your un-predictableness won’t work on me, old friend, for I had memorized everything there was ever to know.”

Chuuya would never let it show, yet how little his partner knew about him made his blood boil. “Oh, so you think that I NEVER CARED AND STUDIED EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU AS IF MY LIFE DEPENDED ON IT?” Chuuya had screeched and thrusted his chains forward, once more to remind his friend that he was the one in pain for Dazai’s actions.

“We could have been happy together, what happened to us?” Saying that may have been a mistake as Dazai had reacted by having more guards hold him, turning his quiet rage into fuming anger.

“What us? THERE NEVER WAS ANYTHING MORE THAN FAKE FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN US, STOP ACTING LIKE THERE WAS!” Dazai had screamed and spat in his enemy’s face while closing the distance between them with a harsh punch to the gut, and when Chuuya attempted to recoil and get away, the guards keeping him levelled had made their presence clearer, by scratching their filthy nails into his reddened skin, a result from the chains aiding his helplessness.

Once Chuuya had regained his footing, he had decided to get over and done with his plan before his aching heart could refuse. “Well this talk is getting personal so what if you say we leave these people behind and go to couples therapy?” Chuuya decided he had to get the guards off of him, then he would be able to uncover his hidden weapon.

“Oh, I understand,” Dazai had said while making an educated guess for his old-friends plan, “you think this is funny? Or should I say you want to get the guards off of you so you can take out the knives you have strapped to your thigh?” Dazai had concluded with a smirk on his face, simultaneously riling Chuuya up.

Suddenly, a voice had appeared behind him, all according to his plan, relying on his partners cocky attitude, had allowed Chuuya to make a planned call to his subordinates, resulting in a shocked expression on his target’s face, alluding to how deep his planning truly went, once more surpassing his friend’s predictions.

“It’s been wonderful entertaining you, however I have a job I need to get through with Mackerel, so if you would allow me, I’ll be taking my leave. That is unless you would like to enjoy my presence for a while longer?” Chuuya had said with such arrogance in his voice, making the guards holding him down fume with how much he overestimated himself.

“Now not so fast, remember, we are the ones holding you down, unless you have a secret weapon-” Dazai, was cut off, unmercifully by his counterpart.

Chuuya decided to start calling his saviour, “turns out we have a secret weapon, an immigrant you know and whose who’s unafraid to step in, he’s constantly confusing, confounding the ‘hero’s’ henchmen, everyone give it up for the ‘hero’s’ least favorite fighting ‘villain’!!!” And suddenly all the guards dropped dead while being used as stepping stones for a hooded figure.

“Lafayette!” Everyone was suddenly chanting, even those holding the other infiltrators hostage, everyone except Dazai who was starting to become surrounded by people now revealed to be apart of the villain’s side.

“H-hey, what’s going on?” Dazai said with a look of pure terror and shock on his face, however nothing could prepare him for what was about to come.

“I’m taking this horse by the rains making red coats redder with bloodstains!”

“Lafayette” everyone had chanted and Dazai somehow found himself joining in on it, impressed by the hooded man’s rapping skill, he couldn’t even find himself to understand the implications of the lyrics, everything he had ever been taught flew out of his head as he joined in on the chanting.

“And I’m never gonna stop until I make ‘em drop and burn and scatter their remain’s, I’m..”

“Lafayette!”

“watch me engaging ‘em, escapin ‘em engraging ‘em, I’M…?!

“LAFAYETTE!”

“I go to hero’s for more intel…”

“LAFAYETTE!”

“And I come back with more allies!”

It was at that point that Dazai had noticed some of the ‘newer’ faces poking out were his, friends?...
Who was this hooded figure? Was Lafayette his name or a code name?

However, he was not able to voice out his concerns and he kept his eyes on the hooded figure with the intensive rapping skills.

Notes:

Fun fact, this fanfic was actually originally requested by one of my friends over 2 teachers at our school, who are reaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy close, but then i didn't want to so i replaced the names and developed the characters, but then they reminded me of skk, they literally plague my mind
