Chapter Text
1987. The year that Dave went missing. Or at least, that’s what I think, because I noticed boards missing from where they be on the saferoom.
I mean, of course Dave had probably busted them down! Or, well… that’s what I think he did.
The place was closed down. For good, right? That’s what the second red phone had told me, and yet, my phone started ringing. A call. An accent that sounded eerily familiar to Dave’s. There was a new location.
—
A week had passed since that call, and the oddities of it had been eating up at Jack, after all, why would Dave help Freddy’s?
How was Freddy’s even still open? And, wasn’t he free from the red contract?
‘Whatever.. wouldn’t hurt to check it out.’ The orange man mumbled to himself, running his hand through his fluffy orange hair.
It was short as he liked it, but long enough for a ponytail in the back if he wanted one.
He took a shower, before putting on his clothes and orange makeup. He had a job to apply to after all. He couldn’t look like he had freshly died again!
No, that would be horrible in his mind, he had to get hired. So he could fulfill his promise.
He didn’t betray Dave’s trust for nothing. It wasn’t his fault the purple idiot didn’t listen when he told him, ‘“I don’t think we should kill kids anymore Dave.. it- it’s wrong!”’
Deciding not to dwell on his thoughts, he made himself a quick breakfast, and scarfed it down before leaving, getting in his car to drive to the Colorado location.
Oddly enough, it seemed that one had opened back up. Something seemingly unheard of. But, suppose there’s a first for everything.
He had parked his car, and went up to the building, taking a deep breath, before opening the door and walking inside, before freezing.
He saw a purple figure, dressed in a black suit. The figure was faced away, from Jack, talking to a police officer.
The conversation was too quiet to hear from where Jack was standing, so he moved closer. He could overhear faint talking between the two on how “nothing would go wrong” and “thank you for this opportunity!”
It was the same person who called him. Dave. It was clearly Dave. The man who he had went to Vegas with— Jack felt a pang of guilt in his heart for him. He left him to die he left him to—
“Why hello there newbie!” The purple phone headed figure said, snapping the orange out of his thoughts. “My names Scott, an’ I thank ya fer comin’ here!”
“. . . Yeah- yeah- I uh- got called by you-” Jack mumbled in response, slightly out of it. He didn’t know what he expected when he helped the red phone springlock Dave, all he knew was, he felt guilty.. he feels worse now than before.
“Ya didn’ have ta come but- I figured I’d offer ya a job seein’ as ya had previous work experience here, an’ I’m tryna get the place up an’ running again!” Dave rambled on and on, making him feel worse.
“Yeah- of course D- … of course Scott, I’ll do whatever you need me to man- I… owe you one.” He didn’t want to accidentally call Dave.. well- Dave. He doesn’t remember after all.
He doesn’t remember how close they were- how they had that slight falling out- how Jack was the cause of Dave dying—
“Employee- snap outta it!” Dave spoke with a slight pouty huff. “Ya zoned out!” There was a blank stare for a few moments. “Sorry. You- remind me of someone. Who- I cared a lot about.” Jack replied with a soft sigh.
“Mm. Well, ya pretty much said ya wanted a job right? So yer hired. All I wan’ ya ta do is jus’ go around an’ make sure everythin’s workin’ fer now. Then jus’ meet me in the office!” And with that, Dave left, headed towards the office.
Following his lead, of leaving at the very least, Jack walked to the bathroom, closing himself in a stall. He needed a moment to breathe- a moment to think- a moment to—
—
Jack awkwardly awoke leaning on a closed stall door. His head hurt, he probably shouldn’t have drank the night before. His head felt so dizzy, and unfocused. He was lucky Dave hadn’t come to check in on him. That would’ve been awkward, although he’s not really sure about how long he was out.
He didn’t have a watch, so he decided to just walk to the office, silently. He knew Dave would be there but it’s fine. ‘Just pretend it’s not him- pretend like he isn’t the man you helped kill-’ another pang of guilt, he can’t do this, he needs a drink- he needs to not focus on the world he needs to- … he wants all that, no, what he really needed to do, was talk to Dave, and hope he didn’t have an anxiety attack.
He took a deep breath before stepping into the office. “Heya boss!-” He spoke with a nervous tone. He mentally prayed to Fredbear that Dave hadn’t suddenly gotten the ability to read him like a book, even though he was already somewhat okay at reading him before.
“Heya Sportsy!” Dave greeted Jack, which caused the orange to flinch. “Ya know we got cameras in the bathrooms- right?- I saw ya pass out in there ya know! Are ya okay?”
Jack took heavy breaths. Concern. Dave was concerned for him. At least he seemed like it. And the nickname? This all felt like a cruel joke being played on him for helping kill the children- for slightly liking Dave more than friends-
“Woah- woah- yer cryin’- come on- sit down- we can talk this out, alright?” Dave spoke soothingly.
“N-No- we- we can’t. You wouldn’t get it. Not anymore anyways. You might not ever understand..” Jack replied his breath shaky.
“As yer boss. Sit down. Take a deep breath. Tell me what happened.” The aubergine then spoke sternly, motioning the office chair to Jack.
The tangerine sat down, sighing. “You- remind me of an old friend I screwed over some time ago- and- I regret it. I just wanted him to move on- to- … to think about what he was doing ya know! I was mad and I-” he paused to take a deep breath, “I was the reason he died, and he was so unique, but messed up, kind, but a monster. And it shouldn’t be affecting me this bad but- I think I started to love him,” he paused again to wipe his tears. “We both worked here, together ya know- … and that’s what happened.”
Dave listened and nodded at what Jack had said, all of it. What he had mostly got was ‘you remind me of my friend who I love’, something he could use to his advantage. While he didn’t need to comfort Jack, something in him wanted to, made him feel overjoyed everytime he saw him.
Even as Jack cried, Dave felt happy to see him. He couldn’t understand why. Without thinking, he pulled Jack into a hug. “There there Sportsy, yer pals got ya!” He mumbled to him.
All Jack could bring himself to do was cry in Dave’s arms.
—
After a decent amount of crying and conversation, Jack actually did his job, and smiled at Dave semi-happily. There was only so much Dave could do to make the guilt go away.
At this point, the only think Jack could do is wave to Dave and go home to drink his sorrows away.
