Tyler's Terrible Mistake

Summary:

Tyler forgets to hug and kiss his son goodbye

Dean is very upset

Work Text:

Tyler had committed a terrible atrocity this morning.

In his haste, rushing out the door after being delayed several times, he'd forgotten to hug and kiss Dean goodbye.

Their son's world came crashing down after that. Distraught, he'd thrown himself face-down onto the floor of the kitchen. That was how Wednesday found him, having heard his crying.

Pouring herself a cup of coffee, she sat at the table, observing him. “How long do you intend to stay there?”

“Forever and ever!” Dean said, voice muffled from the hardwood.

“So long as you know,” Wednesday said dryly. Dean didn’t respond, only sniffled. “Dean, your father didn’t do it on purpose. You mustn’t take it personally.”

But Dean did take it personally. “He forgot me!” He wailed.

“He didn’t forget you,” Wednesday sighed. “He was in a hurry, that’s all.”

But Dean was not placated by her explanation. He kicked his feet, whining into the floor. “It’s not fair!”

“It’s alright, Little Bat,” Wednesday lowered her voice to something more soothing. “You’ll see him later.”

“But I wanna hug now! ” Dean said miserably.

Truth be told, and she’d take this to her grave, she didn’t like seeing her son upset. Wednesday tried to bargain with him to calm him down. “I will hug you, Dean. Would that make you feel better?”

No! You’re not Daddy! I want Daddy!”

“I’m the closest you’ve got right now,” Wednesday pointed out. “If you don’t want a hug then fine. But you need to get up and eat your breakfast.”

“No!”

“Dean, I’m not going to argue with you.”

“No!” He was rolling around, flailing his limbs around. Wednesday let him be and drink her coffee.

Out of her peripheral, she could see the font door opening and in came Tyler, muttering to himself.

Dean stopped rolling around at once, lifting up his tear stained face.

“Yes, your father is back,” Wednesday told him.

“Have you seen my phone? I think I left it somewhere around here,” Tyler was in the kitchen now, eyes darting around in search of his device. He let out an oof when Dean hurled himself at him.

“Console your son,” Wednesday said. “He’s been quite distressed.”

“What? What’s wrong?” Tyler adjusted his hold on him, lifting him into his arms.

“You forgot me!” Dean cried out, his face on Tyler's shoulder.

Her husband looked at her, surprised. “What? How did I forget you?”

“You forgot his hug and kiss,” Wednesday supplied.

Oh ,” Tyler breathed out, hugging him tighter. “Oh, buddy, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. Daddy was just running late, that's all.”

Dean gripped his shirt, not wanting to let go.

“That’s what I told him,” Wednesday said.

“Come here,” Tyler wiped away a few tears, giving Dean a few kisses that had him giggling a little. “I love you.”

“Love you too,” Dean exclaimed.

“Now that that's all done,” Wednesday said, “sit down and eat your breakfast.”

“Mama’s right,” Tyler said, and he was about to put him down but Dean just wouldn’t let go. He had a firm grip around his neck. “Dean, Buddy, you’ve gotta let go-”

“No, I wanna be with you!” Dean pouted.

Wednesday tried to take him too, holding onto his waist gently. Like a snake, he tightened his hold on Tyler. “Well,” she said, letting go. “I can see this is not going to work. This is your problem now.”

“What-” Tyler watched her slide past them and back up the stairs she went. “Wednesday? Come on, come back!”
